Pahimar updated my mod with my express permission. Additionally he did not distribute it. he updated and gave me the source which i then compiled and put on this thread myself. I'm aware my mod has bugs in it, however that does NOT give others the right to violate the terms of my license by creating unauthorized derivative works.
I actually think that change was a pretty good one, soul shards were overpowered in the way that you made them, it was relatively easy. Once you have been to the end though it's fairly easy to make them again.
EE3 + Ender Chest + Ender Pouch you are willing to lose = End stone is not that big of a deal
Removing the whole anvil thing is what is really required to make this mod not so OP. The End stone requirement is just an annoyance that attempts to nerf things but just wastes time and makes it less fun to use.
You can combine different shards together on an anvil. First off you get a bonus on the # of souls. I _think_ it's around 1.4x the number of souls on the 2nd shard maybe it's the 1st one?
So.. 100 + 100 = ~240. I don't think I understand the mechanics exactly but as a general rule it seems to work.
The bigger problem is you can combine shards from different mobs. Create a tier 1 blaze shard (which you could have done by sucking up a spawner with the old version) and combine it with a tier 4 cow spawner and you should have a tier 5 blaze shard spawner. Yikes!
Personally I find this insanely OP (though I do admit to using it after I walked my tier 4 shard into lava.. do not play while on cold meds kids).Random idea.. how about a multiblock structure that requires diamonds as a component with a cost related to the tier level? Tier 5s could cost 50+ diamonds + other materials for instance?

Hey Shadow,
I was wondering if I could use ForgeIRC, Soul Shards, and Recipie remover in a modpack I am creating called "KirbyCraft Modpack"
This will be on a public server which is coming soon.

the "anvil thing" is removed. the end stone requirement isn't an attempt to "nerf" anything. i didn't want to maintain all the complicated crap that was caused by having the soul forge, so i removed it. this was the way i avoid recipe conflicts or worldgen. Don't just make assumptions when you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.
P.S. updated forgeirc with the fix for the chatting to IRC when you don't want it to bug.
P.P.S. No one but pahimar has or will likely ever have permission to derp about my source. Don't even bother asking.
However can matthewprenger get your "express permission" as well
since he hangs around in this thread and pahimar isn't ?
Not trying to make you mad or anything.. just asking
;Lord_vastrix' I had a misunderstanding with ShadwDrgn's intentions for the mod. The source was posted accidentally, and I was in the wrong for updating it without his permission. My copy of the mod is no longer available.
So with that fixed, is killing the mob the only way to get souls? From my knowledge there isn't even an enchantment to make it easier any more. If there is, what sword does it go on?
There is not, no. It will be more difficult again to get the top tier shards (as it should be), but I do have plans to at some point make things less of a grind, while still trying to maintain some level of balance.

Call it what you want.. but in my book..
Nether visit + Build/maintain sword + kill 205 mobs (less if you found some spawners)
vs.
(Finish the End OR End visit + lose Ender pounch) + kill 1024 mobs
is a nerf that even Greg would be proud of. Not saying it didn't need a nerf.. just think you may have swung the pendulum a little to far in the other direction this time around.
MFR + gravity gun. Vanilla spawners to get essence, auto-spawner to get loot.
Problem with the damn vanilla spawners is they won't spawn anything if you're not standing around 16 blocks or less of them, quite annoying for auto-spawners to have to be there to make it work is ruining the full effort, there must be some other mods that do the same job somewhere, just didn't find it yet I guess.
This mod was nerfed so much from his original version that its finally out of my modpack, will have to work with MFR auto-spawner for now.
I'm not sure why you're under the impression that the mod has been nerfed that significantly. Other than the removal of the vile sword (which didn't exist before anyway) there have been no significant balance changes.
The not being able to absorb spawners problem was just that... a problem. It's fixed now. Rather than just assuming that the mod was nerfed when something that big isn't even mentioned in the change log seems a bit silly, though.
Rather than just dropping the mod entirely, how about telling me what you feel has been nerfed and your reasoning for thinking MFR's extremely expensive to maintain AND build spawners would be easier or better for you.
is anyone else getting a conflict with tinkers construct?

A detailed walkthrough of the error, its code path and all known details is as follows:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ShadwDrgn, please let me be one of those that praise you for upkeeping what is obviously (to me at least) a mod that is really hard to keep going from version to version.... if it were easy I know there would be many knock-off versions, and there isn't... what people don't seem to realize is that with a little more effort on the player's part tier 3 shards are nearly as good as tier 4 (use a lighting system around the spawning area that can be turned on/off and they are almost as good as tier 5 in that they can be enabled/disabled... just with light instead of redstone to the cage). The only thing a tier 3 shard cannot do is spawn mobs from another dimension... and that is truly worth the price of doubling the kill amount.
I'll admit to doing my share of griping when the changes occurred, and I apologize... the mod IS more balanced now, not "nerfed" as many are saying.
The only problem I have had is sucking up mob spawners with a shard (sorry, I don't even get an error when I tried... was zombies if that helps)... but that just taught me to work a bit harder towards my goal...
tl;dr: Thank you ShadwDrgn for all your hard work and effort keeping this mod going, there truly is no equal of it's kind.

Still can't absorb spawners in the newest Soul Shards build (1.0.34) and using Forge 710(1.5.2). It's possible I'm doing it wrong, but I've tried right clicking on a spawner with the tier 0 soul shard (skeleton shard with 5 souls on a vanilla skeleton spawner), I've also tried breaking the spawner while the shard was in my hotbar, and breaking the spawner with the shard itself via left-click, but no dice. I get no error or anything, just.. nothing happens.
