WDL used to be compatible with Magic Launcher, now it isn't. I tried zipping the contents of WDL 1.8 version but ML just says "No mods present". Has anyone managed to get a 1.8 or 1.8.1 version of WDL to work with ML?

Load that profile into Magic launcher . Just remenber the basemod version can not be used with any other mods and don't use that version profile to play game . If you want liteloader version get 1.1.3a version a few pages back . Please read topic
If you make it so this mod exports extended materials (not just the default ones) I will donate money come payday. The server I am on uses additional datablocks, but world downloader does not save them with their extra metadata or whatever it is called.
I would have to go on the server to see an example . plugins can add extra content , but that content would never show up in a vanilla game in single player. Once you had the map ,you now need to recreate the server and plugin structure in order to run it
I believe its just data block ids really. For instance you know how if you were giving yourself a double slab you'd type /i 43:1 for a sandstone slab or /i 43:7 for a quartz version, its just that secondary data value on blocks that normally wouldn't have any, or as many variants. I haven't seen any servers that have used more than 16 variations on the original block... yet!
I just tried the 1.8 pallet examples like 43:8 and 43:9 , 6 sided piston etc the litemod 1.1.3 version works fine .what ever spigot would let me make i could copy
not sure what the server I use runs on to be honest. I know there is a liteloader version, but is there going to be a non-liteloader version for 1.8 out? I havent seen it over the past few pages, and its not on the top post.
1.8.2 final released today . Waiting for MCP then liteloader to update . In the mean time grab the 1.1.3a version for 1
.8 it works great with liteloader chained to Forge . So you can load up lots of mods .
WDL used to work fine all by itself with Magic Launcher. Just download the zip file and without doing anything to it just put it in any storage folder on your hard drive, point ML to where it is and it would load it in every time you started up Minecraft with ML. None of the current versions do that so I haven't updated to 1.8 (thankfully the server I play on can still accommodate 1.7.x players).
Is the ability to load with Magic Launcher without having to use Liteloader (whatever that is) or Forge or anything else like every version that Cubic made something that may return? Things were so much simpler then.

Base mods , that you refer to , hooked into proprietary sources . This way of doing mods is now deprecated in favor of using liteloader or Forge API.
Yes , get Liteloader 1.8 and install it , use the option to copy the liteloader.jar to the /mods/1.8/ directory . put all your litemods and forge mods together
I'm having some trouble, do I download the WDL.litemod ? (1.8), because when I do, and I drag it into the mods folder...(I already used the option to copy the liteloader into 1.8 mods., it dosen't work and the rest of my mods are loaded. Just not WDL D:

Hm, so I need to install liteloader 1.8 + forge version and I put the .litemod in the mods folder for the normal place where I would put it for forge mods?
where can i find wdl 1.7.10?

Use the litemod version 1.1.3a a few pages back . it has the least amount of bugs and copies signs
