Description:
Death in Minecraft seemed to easy to me, most of the time you can get back to where you died and pickup everything, the only thing you lose is experiance. I wanted a mod that made me really try not to die, of course there is hardcore, but it is inevitable that I will die sometimes. So I came up with this mod.
With this mod every time you die you "permanently" lose 1 heart. So after your first death the max heart you can get is 9. You will keep loosing health like this every time you die until you reach 9 deaths, that is the maximum deaths you can get. After a death all hope of regaining that heart is not lost, you can craft a Diamond Scarab using a ghast tear, gold ingots, and a diamond block. At first the scarab is inert, for it to be used you must imbue it using 20 levels of xp by right clicking (this will take 20 levels away from you). Now your scarab with shimmer like the effect on potions. Right clicking again will erase one of your deaths allowing you to regenerate the heart you had lost.
Features
"Permanently" lose 1 heart per death
Maximum of 9 death can be accrued
Remove deaths by using a diamond scarab
diamond scarabs need 20 levels to be activated

Delete Meta-Inf from the minecraft.jar
Install ModLoader into the jar
Install Player API into the jar
Put the FearDeath.zip in the .minecraft/mods folder
This is a really interesting idea.
I rarely die so hard-mode is not very challenging.
But I still do, mainly from sneak-glitch or the ******* dog pushes me off a cliff. So hard-core mode is unacceptable.
This mod found a happy middle.
It's rare for a new mod to think outside-the-box like this.
Most new mods are just yet-another-ore that lets you craft yet-another-set-of-tools.
Congrats.
Not working for me. Says the status is OK in Magic Launcher but I keep crashing right after the load up screen. I even disabled all other mods and the same happens.
ETA: I even put it in a minecraft.jar and still crashes.
ETA2: Here is the error report. This is with ModLoader and FearDeath injected into the minecraft.jar file. ModLoader being added first.

Do you have Player API installed? I just tried it and magic launcher works with ModLoader, PlayerAPI.
EDIT: yeah, the error message says your missing ServerPlayerBase which is part of Player API, I've updated the post to make the requirements more clear.
might i suggest u remove the diamond scarab and use the tier 2 golden apple. This will allow world conversion between versions with and without the mod. otherwise looks fantastic

I'm not sure what you mean by world conversion, but I big part of the scarab is the fact that it takes experience to make, so you can't immediately repair your health after you die, you have to live for a bit with the reduced health. I haven't played a whole lot with 1.3 so level 20 is probably too low for what I wanted, I was thinking in terms of 1.2.5's level 20. Let me know if you think that's too easy.
This is a really neat concept and I like how you're thinking outside the box. This idea got me thinking about the whole "death isn't an issue for me' so cranking the difficulty up to 11. What if we replaced diamond in the world generation with an antidote, and you start the world poisoned. So you only have X amount of days to find the antidote before all your hearts drain and you die which results in the world being deleted. Food will be the only thing you can use to replenish your energy but your hearts will slowly drain more and more the longer you take trying to find the antidote, also things like not being able to sprint if your hearts drop past half way and even seeing in the dark during the daytime to make it that little bit harder. Tell me what you think, just adding my two cents into the pot.
Starting out with a sickness and having to find an antidote is a really cool idea. I wouldn't need to replace diamonds, I could have another rare ore/block generate. And I could make it so that the antidote only lasted for x amount of days, so that the challenge wouldn't end after you found the first antidote. Also the sickness could escalate the longer you have it, for the first couple days, it would be "mild sickness" and if your food dropped below half you start loosing health slowly, then it escalates to "moderate sickness" and food doesn't heal you any more, after a few more days you get "advanced sickness" and you loose 1/2 heart ever minute or so with full food. Anyways, this is just me typing out my thought as they come to me, still just ideas. If I do this I make it a separate download, or maybe a separate gamemode if that is possible
I strongly hope that the sickness idea is made into a separate mod and not included in this FearDeath mod.
Or at least allow us to disable the sickness feature.
Also, I don't use mods that add new ores.Because that makes the world unusable until that mod updates with each vanilla release.
But you are the owner of this mod so you can do what you want.
