I tried to install it and it worked fine. I just put the file into my mods folder and put the stuff from that into my minecraft.jar folder. I also made a new folder in .minecraft called config and I put the safechat.properties file there. It still doesn't work for me. I don't get what I did wrong. Do I somehow need to edit the safechat.properties file? If so, how?
Hi im 11 and my lil sis is not allowed to play minecraft anymore cause my dad saw the screen of her cpu... it wasnt pretty. I have 1.4.6 christmas chests and this wont work. Is there somethingim ment to do with DS store. It just sais minecraft crashed when she goes on minecraft
PLEASE REPLY
I just double checked, works fine for me. Forgot about the DS_store file, I made it on a mac and it puts that file there, just ignore it. Did you install the class file properly? Did you remember to delete META-INF?

Do you have minecraft forge installed? You're using the minecraft forge version it sounds like.

Updated to 1.5.1. (skipping 1.5 because it's going to be obsolete soon) When minecraft forge updates to 1.5.1 I'll update that version as well, and use it's new "mods can be independent of minecraft versions" feature.
Also made the install process easier, you don't need to manually install the properties file.
this doesn't work with forge modloader... I wish it did... Could you please see if you can make it work while using fml? forgemodloader works for all of the mods i have but this...

I was just looking into this mod, and happened to check out the forge version myself. It would appear, at least from my perspective, that the forge zip file is a little 'screwed up'. Try downloading the forge zip from the OP, then (by extracting or any other method) take the "Safechat.zip" file from inside that archive, and place THAT in your 'mods' folder. That ought to work.

Works just fine with fml for me. Sure you downloaded the forge version and installed it properly?
EDIT: Rocketman is correct. I did it that way so I could include an instruction file and for computers that auto-unzip downloads.

Sounds like a valid reason, I apologize for saying 'screwed up', a better term would be 'perhaps not what you'd expect'.
Nice mod by the way - I know there's people out there looking for some sort of parental filtering options, and I'm glad to see someone has stepped up to fill that need. I recommended it in my mod thread to someone asking me to add similar functionality.
Could you make a option to turn it on and off in game?
I'm looking into it, and it doesn't look like I can add a button to one of the menus without editing base classes, at least in the non-forge version. I'll keep looking, but I can definitely add your other suggestion about removing the entire word a swear word is part of.
Very happy with this mod. This is a must have for any parent with a child that likes to play on multiplayer servers. Mojang should take a hint from your work and get something similar into the actual client.
Unfortunately, with 1.5.2 I've received null pointer exceptions with both the standard and forge versions of this mod when logging on to server. Here's the full stack trace:

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? Never had a problem with the previous releases.

Do you have minecraft forge installed? You're using the minecraft forge version it sounds like.
[1.16.4] Safechat
I downloaded the one that said "Download for MC 1.4.6"
~Magitroopa~
If you download that version, you have to install the .class file directly into your jar, not just put it in your mods folder.
Here's a guide to installing mods.

Sorry, I'm grounded and don't have access to a computer for long enough
If anyone else can update this, go ahead, otherwise it'll be about a week before I can.

Also made the install process easier, you don't need to manually install the properties file.

There's already plenty of bukkit plugins for a server side version.

Yes. The forge version for 1.5.1 will already work on 1.5.2. I'll update the vanilla one to 1.5.2 once I finish with faissaloo's feature suggestions.
[1.16.4] Safechat
Same.
