As for slings, historically they were quite effective using rock or iron 'shot' for a long time, bows outclassed them eventually but it was easier to give a poor man a sling than a bow, less costly too, slings generally had more range than a bow I believe (strange, right?) but a bow hurt more. A slinger could also easily carry more ammunition than an archer, though most of these don't really work for MF.
Slings are called the "poor man's weapon" for a number of reasons. 1. its super easy to make, i make one out of a strip of paracord. 2. its easy to hide, thus being associated with cutthroats and street thugs. and 3. due to its of construction, they can be taken apart just as fast for use of something else. Slings have a greater range then a bow because slings use centrifugal force to drive it, which is greater than the tension of a string off a bow. Another reason they have greater range is because the ammunition they use are smaller and lighter then an arrow and have less air-resistance while flying.
And a way they could make a sling hold more ammo is through the use of Sharp rocks, Since a sling will most likely use rocks as ammo in RL, why not make them use sharp rocks as ammo in MF? you can hold more than arrows due to the small size of the rocks. since there is actual ammunition in game, much like in RL, the sharp rocks would do less dmg than the bullets but i would rather have a few stacks of rocks than a handful of bullets any day. Heck if u wanna get fancy, you could make it where with a click the sling could be switched froma single shot to a burst of three. Again, like RL.
Ok i have an actual question now, not just historical crap lol. I am using _1.6.4_MineFantasy_B_1.0.jar with GrowthCraft and Natura. That's it. When i put coal in the bottom of the blast furnace i have surrounded by stone brick, it heats up just like it should. When i ascend up my stairs and put Coal, Iron Ore, and Flux in their respective spots on the Input GUI, the furnace still keeps it heat and stays. My problem is that the progression bar on the input doesn't move at all, it stays at nothing while the furnace uses all my coal. Am I doing something wrong? I've checked the wikia and even random forum posts about the Blast Furnace for clues but i find nothing that can help.
have you followed the instructions in the pdf, inside the jar?
Yes I have actually. That's the first source i looked through to help. The only thing it says about the Blast Furnace that i saw is,
"How to use
The blast furnace requires fuel, carbon, flux and an input. To start out: get your input, and an equal amount of flux and carbon (things like coal, coke, etc). Every smelt consumes carbon and flux. Put fuel in the heater, and it will
warm up. The furnace will not refine until it is heated, it doesn’t take long. It is ideal to smelt items in stacks, hoppers can connect to the heater, fuel storage and output (the heater and input do not need stone surrounding, but shafts do) so if you use hoppers, you would need 2 hoppers to branch out the sides and back, while leaving the front empty.
You can apply bellows to the walls pointing at the heater, and this will increase the smelting speed as long as you keep pumping it, that means you smelt faster when working on it manually. The output slot will produce slag. Slag has no use, but it can be placed and/or recycled."
But like I said in that quote, everything is placed in the right slots even at equal amounts for the hell of it. No matter what I do the progression bar does not move.
Either way, I won't have internet for a few weeks so I won't be able to check up on this thread for at least 2-3 weeks. Thanks for helping
================================[B1.3.5]================================
-Fixed insanely high damage output on MF tools
-Added config option to toggle haft usage (replaces all haft references with the basic haft)
-Added config option to adjust rarity of slate and limestone
-Reverted Mangoose's slate/limestone spawn rates to AP's original values
-Changed Hardcore Crafting's default to enabled
There's also a new, more server friendly version of MFBridge.
be better to use planks as non-haft options, to both help copper and ease the purpose of them in the first place. In the remake, I've got a folder of several config files, each world gen ore has a bunch of values, you could add something like that.

why.... there's this perfectly good system, what's the point on adding my own that would likely be inferior....
