Also, I noticed something. I cant make a pickaxe. A bronze one. Im using the exact same things it tells me in the jar, but it wont work. All other tools I can make.
Okay, I hate to complain about how hard things are, but I think the bloomers takes just a bit too long to do its thing. I had to seal myself in a dirt hole and watch a movie while I waited for a stack of iron ore to turn into small bloom, and it takes waaay to long to get regular iron bloom from pig iron and coal. Honestly, it doesn't make anything harder, just more boring, and I think that 25 - 30% of its current speed is perfect, because althoughim fine with difficulty, boredom sucks, especially in minecraft.
Edit- I realized that the bloom is 8 times slower than the blast furnace, which is not cool., because the blast furnace is, like, twice as slow as the vanilla furnace, making each blooming process take 2.5 minutes, or over 2.5 hours to get 1 stack of wrought iron. that is ridonkydonk.
I use the jade knightblazer's chainz mod, it add spikes ( wooden to diamond !?!) that work like caltrops. And cactus work that way too. I think AP should disconsider that suggestion if he ever consider it at all anytime , not because of other mod but you can do it with cactus - yes its not pretty but....). I pretty sure you guys can do better in brainstorming suggestions. =P
You miss my meaning, caltrops are meant to be subtle, not that damaging and slowing. Against mobs they wouldn't do much, but against players they would pester unobservant assailants while making those who see them hesitate. Plus it would feel weird not making it on the anvil

OH i made the same mistake as AP, i thought too that was for hunting.I guess i must change my glasses =\. I see now for advanced medieval war tatics (like the old Stronghold games and stuff)

uhh.. are you seriously thinking your ment to stand watch on that thing... it's a process you leave chilling in the back not to make difficulty, just to slow things down. come in caves, cook some blooms, back to work,

but if your like me, and you like to go on big, long term excavations and then come back and process everything, then there's not much else to do until you've got your phat new tools ready. And anyway, whether you mine like me or not, 2 hours and 40 minutes is a very long time. That's like a lord of the rings movie, and I think anyone would run out of things to do while waiting that long. I personally think 40 minutes should be the max for processing one stack of ore, which is already 4 times slower than a regular furnace, but it's your mod, so please just maybe lower it to like an hour and 20 minutes, so people can watch a short movie instead?

Whether or not you find something to occupy yourself while something is in the works sounds extremely subjective. Honestly long processing time and large initial investment help increase the value of the produced item to the player. I think this really helps define metalworking as a separate role and profession on an SMP server as well.
Also, can I still make chainmail armor and how? I noticed that the recipe changed but I dont know how to make it, because its clearly not shown in NEI alone and there doesn't seem to be an armor folder in the recipes folder, If there is I haven't found it. EDIT: Also, Im kind of confused about the new bloomery GUI. The Gui slots are off and I don't know how to put in the other fuel, So Im kind of stuck.

I don't know, but on a server of 10 we haven't had any real issues with this. There's certainly no reason why you have to stand there and watch it smelt, go build a 1:1 of the Taj, farm food, lumber, brewing, etc. Honestly, its not like you can craft MF items at a rate that matches the current pace anyways. We're also finding the longer time more conducive to people specializing, or doing some automation to their smelting. Can't really expect MF to fit every persons different play style, but I fail to see the point in fast smelting in an already slow crafting system. Think its just one of those things people carry over from vanilla where everything has to me in a chest immediately.

links are made from 4 ingots in a circle

(make 2 sets)
then 4 of those makes a sheet

then assemble the sheets into armour on the anvil(same recipe)
as for the gui, just take the image from an older version

I actually figured this out after looking a bit more, but didnt bother to edit it. Ill try to change the GUI, but I hope this gets fixed anyways because the new GUi actually looks nicer, its just broken, or whatever.

okay, I was joking about finding stuff to do irl, which I tried to make clear. And I want to put out there that Im all for long processes and stuff, but there is such thing as too long, and an example of that is 2 hours and 40 minutes or so, which is a really long time for minecraft. And also, how does that help with labor specialization? if ur supposed to do something else while you wait, what is a blacksmith supposed to do if everyone else is already doing everything else for them? Even forging tools for a server of people doen't take that long, so thats what I call a major hole in ur logic, haha! Sorry if u really are that good at finding random things to do in minecraft, and u really feel like two and a half hours isn't that long (which would mean that the lord of the rings movies are short), but I really think its not that unreasonable to maybe want it shortened even just a bit for the people mostly do single player. Although I guess I can always just make 16 blooms, it ridiculous that I have to.
not really sure, but it only started occurring since I updated it to 1.8.5 so I'm not sure if its one little trace somewhere that triggers food to break or not, but it could be related to BOP too...
Ive had hungeroverhawl's custom food rate disabled for now and haven't seen it occur again yet so that might have fixed it, very perplexing...

Easy killer, I wasn't attacking you personally. I think you misunderstood what I said about defining a persons' role or profession. Just because someone may be the 'blacksmith' doesn't mean that is literally the only thing they do. In reality most blacksmiths in history were also tradesmen and general handymen around the town. This can be more than evident in the game as well thanks to MineFantasy's design structure. Crafting has been made much more immersive, knowledge based and time intensive so players tend to specialize like they would in the real world. It doesn't mean that the farmer or miner is restricted to doing any one thing just that you most likely won't see the standard Minecraft layout in every damn player's house: Crafting table, oven, large chest, small hole stairwell to bedrock. I am not saying the current timing for it is perfect by any sense, just that it shouldn't be altered too far into the vanilla speed of things. That said I am admittedly jaded since I only run this on my server and so I haven't had much experience trying to run this in single player.

So if it's the most recent one I've posted; use 2 hafts and 3 bronze, if not use 2 planks and 3 bronze
