hm... that only is ment to happen to outdated plugins...
thought i dealt with that.. some of the ores in vanilla don't follow well with mod support, when it comes to most ores; it checks if a harvest level is equal or greater to be effective, but with obsidian for some strange... reason, they made it check if it's equal harvest level, as mithril has 1 higher harvest level than diamond(3 being diamond; vanilla max, mithril is 4)
but you can set tools to harvest whatever you want, therefore made my picks be able to mine obsidian with greater than 3 harvest level. so there's no reason why it doesn't...

When you start with this mod is very frustating, the basic things of minecraft change. But is amazing when you discover and craft things. Thanks for the mod!!
Playing this mod has the same feel for me that vanilla did as a noob -- strange, mysterious, challenging, sometime frustrating or a little bit scary -- not always sure what will work and often expecting to die (far more often than I actually do), while constantly focusing on survival and trying to get just a little better of. It makes the game "new" again -- and its surprisingly stable and compatible for something officially in alpha.
that was the aim, but it just buys you more newbie time. i might actually start on the stone age stuff to span it out a bit more. as it's nearly impossible to recreate your first minecraft days
haven't heard of them; but doku would go well with this(but that's a 32x pack and this has a LOT of content, so id imagine you would need a huge amount of requests and devs for that though)

well i'm still kind of stingy about block ids (and things that have no purpose), so until that wears off.
