guilt tripping you was not my intention at all, i figured it would be a nice change to here that versus' the usual "ME WANT UPDATE NOW" fair you get as a mod maker (i mod for fallout new vegas and few other games i know that feel)
as far as the experience for naming why not do the same thing only with magic essence (would give me something to use the the warehouse full i now have since i learned totems arent working the hard way.)
as you stated the vanilla anvil is an ugly cobble thing so no need to change the colour.
altho cast iron anvil are generally frowned upon since its high carbon content making the steel too rigid and brittle, most anvils are steel, wrought steel, wrought iron, or cast with a steel striking surface.
so take your time and do it right, dont rush for us ^^
random thought, it would be cool to see cast iron and wrought iron in the mod

hm.. why change the colour again... anvils are usually cast iron...
(kinda guilt tripped there with the whole "and patiently waiting here too." kinda feel bad that im not doing anything)
Sorry, wasn't my intention to lay a guilt trip down.. just wanted to let you know that there's still interest out here.. I know it'll come when it comes, and that's fine. As far as the color change, it wouldn't need to be anything more than a subtle difference from the vanilla anvil, just something to make it stand apart. It may already be clear enough, I haven't tested 1.4.2 yet (since I've been playing MineFantasy on 1.3.2), but from the pictures I've seen the anvils look similar.

or he could change the the vanilla anvil, with a model swap. altho not sure how well that will work consider java gives me a migrain.
in theory it works with other games so just tossing it out there.
also *high fives*

*well regular iron is used as wrought iron (though the vanilla texture looking as it is)
casting WAS going to be added... but didn't (seemed like just another random tier with few differences. though ive made other mods with casting)... they were going to be stronger but slower (slower since cast iron is heavy, brittle and rough)
also: using magic essence of naming when it comes to the vanilla anvil won't work(given the whole base class thing). however the magic dust was going to be in for a change spawning in random consistencies in chunks so some will be more abundant than others. from there: (like ignotumite will be) there would be a procedure for refining it. magic being a bit easier to refine. but it uses more dust than before. (and the long processes/ abundance would give server communities some trade oppertunities (was also going to work with a seperate mod that was similar to this: adding infrastructure to servers) so people have reason to trade and build alliance with others)
over
as for the anvil: it could do for a change(as you see the .png image is just a rough iron texture but could do a few changes(just a smoother top since hitting soft metal on a rough top would be messy)
and again. i'm not going to change the vanilla anvil: base class editing is a bad practice(for a few reasons)
Why don't you use a very simple trick AP. A simple Enum.rarity name color.
Set your anvil to the epic purple, and let mojang keep its crappy white name
To me that is win in both ways,
1. Your Anvil is Better/ higher quality.
2. Colored Text helps people understand differences and rarities.
3. Every gamer knows epic.
4. Purple is pretty.....
5... I am going to stop with the purple is pretty
Over all, just boost your Anvil over Mojang with their very own built in coding. MAWHAHAHAHAHA

well purple is a bit overemphesised for the anvil(and the irony you need 31 iron for a vanilla anvil and 6 for a minefantasy one)
i perhaps could rename the old anvil remotely(it may be possible.. depends on how it was coded)
well a bit of content i was adding(something that gives a good plane over the new locks and security)
a certain system that makes you like darkness(as it were light) and hate light (as it were dark) adding use on both SSP and SMP(and for those reading. prepare for things that mightn't be as you think: but it's the best i could do without base class editing)
well ive done the 1.4 update and had something to do before releasing(but since ive been idle for the past 2 days... i forgot what)
Pretty sure you were supposed to give yourself a pat on the back.
Looking forward to seeing how it plays in 1.4! Just a heads-up but 1.4.3 is supposed to be coming out Nov 7th. It's all bug fixes from what I gather, so I highly doubt it will have any affect on mods, if at all.
ya it was stated a couple of pages back magic wasnt working as intended.
it happens with all rune what are placed on a totem.
the upside it attacks anything that comes in a 5x5 area around it, the downside it attacks you too.

hm: 1 of 2 things:
1: release now and include bigfixes later(giving 1.4 access now)
2: bugfix now and release later(giving 1.4 access later; but more time taken fixing)
Well, as long as you warn people that it's still buggy, releasing now would at least allow people to let your ores generate in their worlds and start mining them in anticipation of when everything else is cleaned up.

Have to disagree. I stick by the release early, release often software development theory. You can't find all the bugs on your own and you'll create a tighter feedback loop between us as users and you as a developer if you get things out the door sooner, not to mention keep interest moving forward by keeping things current with the latest Minecraft version. Just my opinion though.

I think the runes are broken
oh the obscurification, the minecraft coder pack clears that up better than anti venom clears up a snake bite .-.
