1.4.2 update is underway, but as yet I am unable to get the audio to play. Everything else works fine, so hopefully I will resolve the issue soon.
At this stage it is looking like it may have to be released for 1.4.4 though. Sorry!
What does it do?
Listen to your music locally (64 block radius) or have it play music throughout your world.
Use the remote control to change songs from anywhere.
Simply convert your music to .ogg or wav. and then place in the boombox folder! (Will not work with MP3)
Got v2.1 for 1.3.2 ready.
Everything seems to work fine now except that volume still doesn't increase when speakers are placed.
It will still increase and world play will activate on song change as usual
I hope to solve the volume update problem soon.
In the meantime, here are the 1.3.2 releases so you can start enjoying your music again.
to install, open the rar file and drag the contents of the folder into your .minecraft folder
Everything is the same as the 1.2.5 (see OP for details)
There is however, one noteable difference.
Sound volume does not update when speakers are placed. The volume will increase when the next song starts or when you refresh the song manually (I am working to fix this)
OP will be updated over the weekend
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: When using the remote, each time you restart minecraft you will need to activate the actual boombox again before the remote will operate.
PK_Boombox_1.2.5_v1.4(PiKPod)
The boombox by itself plays like a jukebox. (music will play locally up to 64 blocks away)
To double the music volume and make it so the music will play worldwide, add a speaker to both sides of a boombox.
Redstone can be used to toggle (i.e. like a button) music on or off.
1.2.5 PK Boombox(2speaker + remote)
The boombox by itself plays like a jukebox. (music will play locally up to 64 blocks away)
To double the music volume, add a speaker to one side of a boombox.(music will play locally up to 64 blocks away)
To make it so the music will play worldwide, add a speaker to both sides of a boombox.
Music tracks can be turned on/off or changed from anywhere in your world with the remote control.
Redstone can be used to toggle (i.e. like a button) music on or off.
1.2.5 PK Boombox(Original Speakers)
The boombox by itself plays like a jukebox. (music will play locally up to 64 blocks away)
Add two speakers, (one on each of a boombox) and the volume will double (double record volume).
Add 4 speakers (2 on each side of a boombox) and the music will play worldwide.
Redstone can be used to toggle (i.e. like a button) music on or off.
Enjoy!

Installation and how to add music files:
To install the mod, open the rar file and then the folder named "Drag all contents to .minecraft folder and overwrite"
Then drag the 3 files to your .minecraft folder and say yes when asked to overwrite .
The default block IDs are 230 and 231 but can be changed in the props file.
One song (Test Track) Which was made by me (MindKrafter) is included with the mod and will be automatically placed in the minecraft\resources\mod\boombox folder so that you can make sure the mod is installed correctly.
I give permission to use the song "Test Track" however you see fit. (Or promptly delete it!)
Convert your music files to .ogg or wav, and then add them into the newly created "boombox" folder.
(\.minecraft\resources\mod\boombox)
Whatever is in that folder will be loaded automatically and the boombox can play them.
For those who prefer a visual explanation (click to enlarge)
Note: If you experience songs skipping or making a ticking noise, make sure there are no strange characters or out of place numbers.
Examples of song title formats that work. (Numbers used as a preface are fine)
A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran
Love Action (I Believe In Love)
don_mclean-american_pie
01 Stairway to Heaven
Nena - 99 Luftballoons
Things that will cause a track not to play.
Characters like the these examples.
\ / : ? " < > |
Numbers at the end of titles, as below
song 9
track 01
NB: The sound engine Minecraft uses can supposedly stream ogg, wav, mus, xm, s3m and mod files (half of which I've never heard of). In my experience .ogg and wav work best(I recommend .ogg as it has good quality and much smaller file size).
Downloads (Now, simply drag the files to your .minecraft folder)
PiKPod Boombox Download *NEW* shuffle button: currently picks a random song from your playlist when pressed. (returns to regular play after 1 or two songs) Hopefully in the near future I can get the shuffle function to remain turned on or off. (turns red on hover, instead of blue. (until it's fully implemented)
27 April 2012 v1.4 (PiKPod Only)
Added Boombox remote to the properties file (as requested)
(I will add to the other versions in the morning)
Also tidied up some code and removed an extra .class file that was no longer needed.
24 April 2012 v1.3 (PiKPod Only)
Uploaded version with fixed crafting
17 April 2012: v1.2
- Changed the install method to make it easier.
Now, simply drag the contents of the folder inside the downloaded mod's rar file to your .minecraft folder. That's it. All relevant folders and files will be in place and the song "Test track" will be ready to play for testing purposes.

11 April 2012: v1.1
- Boombox and speaker blocks now show up in the creative inventory.
- Added the remote to 1.2.5 PK Boombox(Original) 2 & 4 speaker setup.
FAQ
If you're having problems or questions, check the FAQ first before you ask. If you ask a question that's in the FAQ, don't be offended if I don't answer it.
When will you do shuffle and loop?
Eventually maybe when I'm tired of coding other mods. The code for shuffle is already there.
Edit by MindKrafter: I am currently looking into this.
Could you change the texture to fit my texture pack?/Can I use your texture?
Lolkuro created all skins and textures and anything related to them should be discussed with him.
The music sometimes stutters when playing and/or cuts off prematurely.
This is caused by lag on slow PCs and there's nothing I can do unfortunately. Trying installing OptiFine or freeing up more RAM.
Everything works except the sound. I keep getting "-No Signal-".
Your music is either in the wrong directory or in the wrong format.
The game tells me the music is playing but I don't hear it./ The boombox skips through some/all of my songs.
First, make sure your music volume in the game options is not 0 and that there aren't any strange characters in the song's filename. Also the minecraft sound engine is strangely selective. Try using a different converter. Once I had to convert an mp3 to wav first before ogg and only then did it work.
String index out of range: -1
Try removing any weird numbers or characters from the song titles.
The mod crashes my game.
Possible reasons:
You didn't install ModLoader properly.
There's a conflicting block ID (edit the properties file).
You installed the mod wrong causing textures or such to be in the wrong location.
You're using an HD texture pack (that requires MCPatcher specifically). MCPatcher screws all sorts of stuff up. Use OptiFine instead for HD textures.
The speakers don't seem to work.
You have a mod that edits SoundManager.class. (Portal Gun Mod is known to do that)
It doesn't work.
I won't try to help you troubleshoot if I don't get some details to work with. Either the output(you could use this too)/crash report, ModLoader.txt or at least what other mods you've got installed.
I noticed your source code is in the download. May I use all/part of it without having to worry about copyright?
Yes; completely open source, but ask (Paraknight) first.
All credit for the core of this mod goes to "Paraknight"
I am merely maintaining the mod in PK's absence. I have also added the remote control as it was a much requested feature.(see Permissions)

boom box on shelf at house im in a cave listening to test track this deserves a for u.I think that who ever sees this post should check out the single player commands mod and the invasion mod
I cant find the remote anywhere, BTW im running this on 1.2.4 so it IS compatible with 1.2.4 and the EQ works too
The remote should be there, unless you got this version (1.2.5 PK Boombox(Original) 2 & 4 speaker setup, no remote)
Just tested with 1.2.4 (confirms backwards compatibility) and the remote showed up in TMI and in the creative inventory. I did give the remote a high id number though so it shows up near the records and potions.
Many thanks for the update and the remote i use and love this mode since over a year.
Would it be possible for you to make it like the original was: If i have several Boomboxes in the World all of them are handlet like it's only one. So all Boomboxes had the EQ-Animation regardles where there are placed and regardles from whitch i start it, and i can change the music-title from every Boombox in the world.
Just made a few slight changes.
The Boombox and speaker blocks now show up in creative mode inventory,
also added the remote to the 1.2.5 PK Boombox Original 2 + 4 speaker version.

Probably not, sorry!
Besides, the remote lets you change your music from anywhere in the world.
Think of the remote more like an ipod Once you have placed 1 boombox and activated it to play worldwide,
there is no real need to place any more. So long as you have the remote with you, you can turn the music on/off or change tracks any time you like.
i converted my kirby falconpunch mp3 to ogg i put it in the /mod/boombox but when i try to play it it thinks that there is nothing in that song so i hear tick tick tick over andover agin why is it doing this?
Check the song file name, the mod doesn't like certain characters of text, just use plain letters, numbers, and under scores for titles, with no spaces.

thank you i changed the spacesto _'s and i took out the 2 thank you now both workcan you add a replay button? that would be awome
I might message some other mod spotlighters, the recoded speaker set up can easily fit in Direwolf's 9x9 rooms, and might be funny to hear what kind of wild excuse Berie has when GameChap's house blows up again.
