Bears would be slower moving but more damaging and resiliant wolves when it comes to fighting mobs.
If adding the ability to tame bears, they should at least have tougher taming requirements than a wolf or ocelot because bears sound like a powerful asset to one's creature army and you already use fish to tame ocelots.

I think they would be tameable with fish, but maybe a similar amount to a lava snake. (Taming a lava snake requires a stack of rotten flesh.)

Nice Mob! I miss this mod terribly. It goes so well with Biomes O' Plenty. I realize it's not good business to 'bash' other mods, and I am not, but yours just adds the last ingredient to what BOP is trying to accomplish. Mo'Creatures is cool, but I'd rather have more animals and fish than more Ogres, Wraiths, and stuff. In my opinion, the default creature Mobs are plenty at night. Adding more "fantasy" mobs does nothing to the realism of BOP.
It's just great exploring a forest and seeing a beaver making a damn, or walking around a swamp and being buzzed by a tiny dragon fly, watching little frogs hopping around, or even better... squirrels gather nuts!
Can't wait for the 1st update, and as mentioned, I hope you can make it 1.52 compatible as well.
Thanks.
BTW... Think ... Raccoons, Chipmunks, Owls (brown and artic snow) ... Hawks (Kestrels in Long Island, NY), and foxes.
definitely agree, waiting for davey's mobs is always difficult since they're done so well and with care to work nicely.

24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
1-ur mod needs to be more "vanilla" , why?
-fishes shouldn't give abilities
-that dodo shouldn't make u fly and shouldn't be tameable..make untameables as more as u can (birds and fishes are accepted)
-things
2-THATS TOO MUCH! just give some news at least . if someone said u are dead i will not feel strange
I think my idea for taming a bear would go through adoption of some sorts. First gain trust of one of the parents and then make it so it mates with another bear. Then you are allowed to adopt the bear cub. Sounds like a balanced way of taming a bear. It takes time and seems quite hard as bears are not fond of players too much. Gaining trust would probably involve feeding fish and making them mate would involve feeding honey :3
@Icebreaker I will not remove those features, it would give the fish less of a purpose and dodo's are pretty crazy as they are ,so why not have a crazy feature? Vanilla != Realism
As far as the taming of bears go, I'd recommend making it so that you can only really do that by way of a bear cub. You could befriend a stray cub while it's young, likely by offering it fish or honey and protecting it. What do I mean by protecting it? Well ideally there'd be two states of "tameness", one where it'll follow you around and the other when it gets big enough for you to actually give it orders. It's vulnerable while in the first state, and each time it gets hurt, it's affection lowers.
The real question is what a tamed bear could do for the player, in my opinion. My Mo'Creatures Panda is damn near useless, so I'd hope this one would be different.
I played with this mod a bit in 1.4, and I am excited to see it be revived for 1.6. Idea: make pigeons able to send items to other players on a server like a passenger pigeon. Not sure how you'd do it though...
EDIT: Was thinking about it a bit more, and thought all birds could have abilities; for example, vultures and seagulls could pick up nearby items and give them to you, etc.

Maybe for seagull's rather than collecting, when you're fishing they will occasionally catch some too. Like the pigeons and vultures doing what you suggested though. What about owls bringing you 1-3 (raw) mice while you sleep? And crows, no idea!

Crows are smart birds. Maybe they bring you anything - maybe 50-75% of being a common item, less chance of something uncommon, really low chance of something valuable.

[Scott]: Things I have managed to get in the last five minutes, in order of ascending importance: cobblestone, planks, lapis lazuli, redstone, gold, coal, diamond. VERY LOST.
did he say aroudn when this is going to be updated ? im assuming to 1.6 ?? i am so excited for this mod if it is coming soon. BOP + this will be the best MC experience yet. all i need now is to find a mod that makes cave generation more interesting . . .
What do people think of my custom species config idea?
Explanation, below is a "config file" named owl3
Hostility: passive.
Effects when attacking: none (Play around with blue frogs to know what this means!)
Tameable?: Yes
Taming item: Raw mouse (would be ID of item)
Size compared to normal mob: 1 (0/1 would be default)
Texture: C:/------/desktop/barn-owl.png
Tamed texture: C:/------/desktop/barn-owl.png
Also what fish give abilities?

Daveyx0, you are awesome. However, I don't know why they say Mo' Creatures has ugly blobs of new mobs compared to you, but you are lucky that your Mole is unique, since Dr. Zhark is too much of a nerd to code a mole. Anyway, I love the bear. Maybe it could knock down beehives and kill critters? I'm glad your mod is still alive. What else is coming than just bears?
