I have a question. In 1.2.5, this mod was incompatible with Better World Generation. Is this because BWG somehow broke Forge's systems for adding new biomes, or because this mod screws up with that sort of mod? That is, is there any possibility of making this compatible in some way with mods such as BWG in 1.3.2, or is it those modders I should be complaining to?
Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?

In short, BWG uses its own terrain generation system that is only aware of the vanilla biomes plus its own additions. I do not know if that is still true, but we don't overwrite any code whatsoever...we just add our biomes to the list in Minecraft and let Minecraft have its way with them. Our biomes look like vanilla biomes to the game...the parameters are different and so the game generates them differently. It would be fairly easy for BWG to build a list of available biomes from the internal list the game keeps and have compatibility...but I was looking around on the BWG thread today and comments seem rather hostile against Extrabiomes and adamant against compatibility...so I don't think it will happen...
All of this is rather ironic because I added the customizable world-types to Forge precisely so that mods like BWG could replace the default terrain gen system without editing the jar files...and in doing so be compatible with more mods...
We have a future feature planned that will successfully replace the terrain generator without losing compatibility with other mods...it will take some work, but a lot of thought and planning has gone into it already.
what do i need to download to have this work with biome painter ? :3
I have not personally used Biome Painter, but from what I can tell, you need to add Extrabiomes' custom biomes to Biome.txt, using the id, a name and a color for each biome. The name and color should be for Biome Painter display purposes only.
Current biome ids for Extrabiomes' custom biomes can be found here. (They will not be changed, but more will be added in the future.)
Also, it appears you can edit blocks.txt in a similar way to use custom blocks.
A request
If any of you is able to answer the following requests, pleas send me a PM.
Hosted CI
I would like to offer users access to continuous builds, like some other mods are doing, using CI software like Jenkins.
Minecraft server
I would like to be able to have a testing server that provides root access and can handle a lag free heavily modded minecraft service for approximately 5-6 simultaneous players.
I receive no compensation for the development of Extrabiomes, and cannot pay for the above; however, this thread receives lots of hits, I post multiple times a day and my signature is seen here and all over MCF. Our mod is downloaded 20,000+ times per release--so I can offer banner placement in trade for the above sponsorship.
I have tried to pursue these requests privately, with no luck, so I am hoping that someone will see this request. I won't repeat this post.
Thank you!
Development Update
Development for the 3.0 release for Minecraft 1.3.2 continues. A few issues have been found in early testing and we have yet to add support for the new features in Minecraft 1.3.2 like the new temple structures and new ore. Currently, I am shoring up the API so with the hopes that these changes will help it remain unchanged in the future.
Thank you for your patience!
Greetings, the forge CI ( http://jenkins.minecraftforge.net:7070/ ) is available if you want me to set you up there. If possible contact me on IRC when I am around (#minecraftforge on irc.esper.net) or PM me on the forge forums and first give me the following information:
- What account name you want
- What you want your first password to be, you can change it when in it
- What is your repository link (github is perfect, or whatever else is public, if not public then I will need to set you up with an SSH key and so forth first to register them together)
- Jenkins requires an email to register, so that too.
I can link it in with the rest of the mods so building will be fast. You will need to setup the jenkins github web hook in github if you use it, or just a standard post-commit hook in whatever else you use, but that is simple.
If at any time you need an additional tester for EBXL, I'll be glad to fill that spot. Unlike a majority of users out there, I can understand crash reports and give detailed bug reports. If this comes to pass, simply message me.
Also, as I do have access to video recording software, I can do showcase videos or create a video to demonstrate a bug if need be.
Why can't I find a village for the life of me and my SIX EMERALDS!? I'm playing in 1.3.2 and I can't find a village, or even a village worthy biome, anywhere.

You are using an unreleased version you compiled from 1.3.2 development source code...which is currently not release quality code. Emerald generation is not turned on in any custom biomes...Villages abound in my test world. If you find issues with the Prerelease versions compiled from source code, please post to the issues list.
Problem is: I have absolutely no idea what build_extrabiomes.bat does, but I may just move it to my windows part so I can compile it. If you can tell me what it does, I could probably do it. I'm reasonably good with shell scripts.
EDIT:
Ok, even on windows it spazzes out, could you just PM me it or something?
Do you get any money out of this even from donors Scott?
Well I will be happy to donate $20 to you for your work and think that others sould do so as well. I don't know how you continue with no revinue. You are one of the best modders as well as MrFiber and I believe that you deserve as much thanks as any other major modder, look forward to a donation when the 3.0 release comes out.
(I know $20 isn't mush but I will, if I can, donate $30 depending on my money on hand (I'm 15 by the way))

Thanks, Novax!
I don't get any money. This is a hobby and I have a full time job, so that's not a problem. I do this because I enjoy Minecraft and I fell in love with MistFiber's idea.
One of the reasons the updates take so long is that I only work at night after my family (I have a wife and kids) has gone to bed...
What do you mean by properly? I set up MCP and use the instructions from the forge page, and it comes up with 100 errors. I apparently can't get it to work.
EDIT:
.sh file crashed, edited (Added quotes) and still crashed. Maybe I'll just wait for release. Hope it's soon.

Awesome mod.
If I were you, I'd do exactly the same thing as you would, because I'd be you. Duh.

You've got to properly set up MCP and Forge before you try to build...
Thanks, Novax!

I'm really glad you like this mod!
edit: I see you posted that at 3:22 in the morning. When do you sleep...?
EDIT:

I normally get about 5 hours of sleep a night!
I can give you instructions for the easy way t set up mcp/forge. PM me if you would like to.
I'm lucky if I get 5!!!!
What do you think the ETA is on the mod? I LOVE this mod because it makes my world less monotonous and boring.
It was 3:22 my time... I live in EDT.
Wow...that would be difficult.
