I made a post detailing my finding of mob spawn testing I conducted today. To keep the CMS thread from becoming cluttered, and to allow other mob spawn modders/users to participate, I made a new thread for all to discuss in. Please visit http://www.minecraft...ions-and-tests/ if interested, thanks.

The config files are your friends! Get to know them, and shape your world!
This pretty sums up my whole mysery. I love all my other mods and some animals here and there would be just the cherry on the cake....
However, the custom mob spawner totally screws up the spawning behaviours (It's actually really hard to find sheeps and if you let CMS change vanilla mobs then you have to deal with slimes everywhere since ALL the setting are set globally (yeah i know i can change frequency but this doesn't really change the fact that slimes are spawning where they shouldn't be able to).
In addition, mobs in other mods don't spawn or have a HUGE spawning rate making a very rare mob one of the most spawned.
Moreover, I tried to use other Mob Spawners but sadly they other don't like to work with CMS or some more random stuff happens or they require a huge amount of configuration for every single biome.
At the end I'm not sure what annoys me more: having to use custom mob spawner or custom mob spawner being a "yeah this is kinda a spawner just for Mo'Creatures, screw the other mobs". (I'm not saying you say that or had the intention to create the CMS like it is, it just seems like the mod is either heavily outdated in its core or just a burden)
I'd really like to play Mo'Creatures but for the sake of my other mods I sadly have to say "No". At least until some issues (like mentioned above) get some attention
I posted this in mo creatures forum forgot about this forum for customspawner

Found the solution to this one this blasted mod is case-sensitive under linux it wont work with "custommobspawner 1.11.zip" it must have the right capitalization "CustomMobSpawner 1.11.zip" go bloody figure
there's always one <sigh>
now to fix the other crasher
hmm multimine has a similar issue with its config file so make that 2
but im up and running under linux, <sigh of relief> dont need to boot winders now
Does it need forge/modloader/anything? If so, that should be added to the description. I have modloader, but no forge due to some mod that I use not supporting it.
Off topic: Why do I have a 10% infraction points when the last infraction that I got expired on the 19th?
Hello there, I've recently gotten into Minecraft mods. I found Mo'Creatures on the 9minecraft site. I downloaded and installed Forge and the Mo'Creatures mod as well as Custom Mob Spawner. All for version 1.5.1 of Minecraft. I started it up and it worked first time. I saw all the creatures etc.
However, after the first time I played and exited the game. When I start Minecraft back up again. It will not start. I get a crash report. And on the report it says that there is an error initializing Custom Mob Spawner. I haven't changed anything since the last time when it worked.
I took out the old zip and downloaded a new one and tried again and still same error. Am curious if anyone else knows of this problem and a fix for it? Or if anyone might have ideas on how to get around the error and still play with the Mo'Creatures mod. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!
Does the Mo Creatures spawner still make all other mob mods not spawn? Or was that fixed yet?
I would also like to know this. I'm also having the issue (with 1.4.7 version) where it doesn't spawn ANY original mobs at all, seemingly regardless of config settings. I'm using a server on Fragnet, but the config file that works for a local server seems to produce different results when I upload it.
Any ideas? (And I can't upgrade to 1.5.1, because other mods I'm running haven't been updated for that yet. :/)

The last 1.4.7 of Mo'Creatures (v4.5.1) would /gamerule doMobSpawning false without telling you (possibly every time the game/server loaded). If you're having problems getting other mod mobs to appear, try
/gamerule doMobSpawning true
(case-sensitive).
If the vanilla mobs aren't spawning after that, I'd try looking at the config for CMS/MoCreatures. Make sure they are not set to "0", and if that doesn't work, turn off the "Change vanilla spawns" and "Disable vanilla spawns" (set to false).

Wow, that's possibly the most helpful response I've gotten on the internet, ever.
After some further research and experimentation, it seem that the server was overwriting my changed .config file. This can be fixed by shutting down the server completely (in both the MCMyAdmin console and the main site console) uploading the changed .config file, and then starting the server again. (But not a restart, I read that this causes other issues.)
Vanilla mobs are back, but I've still yet to find a way to get the Thaumcraft Angry Zombies to spawn. That seems common though.

Thank you! I am downloading mo creatures now and I will definitely see if I can finally get it to work with Dungeon Mobs and AtmosMobs once it updates.
Gurrok knows his stuff. His thread on mob spawning (linked in his signature) is an interesting read if you are interested in the finer details.
Are you using Mo'Creatures v4.5.1 for Minecraft v1.4.7? I had the same problem with config files overwriting and even after setting the file access to read-only it was still not honouring the "Change vanilla spawns" and "Disable vanilla spawns" settings (false in config file, true in GUI).
Zhark has backported the latest version of Mo'Creatures to 1.4.7 which you might want to check out. It doesn't have the problem overwriting the config or the doMobSpawning issue. It's under the main download, not in 'previous versions'.
I read recently that there's an issue in the current 1.4.7 backport - but I forget what it was. I think it's an issue with entering/leaving the wyvern dimension. In any event, I would assume it will be fixed relatively soon.
Thanks for the compliment, iguana_man. I came to these forums frustrated by issues with some mods and spawning problems, and found I wasn't the only one. I'm pretty good at online searches, and found all these snippets of conversation between a handful of different members all on separate threads. They were all having the same problem I was for the most part, and I noticed there was no central location for this information. I started the thread and politely asked those already discussing their issues to bring it all together.
Once we did that, we started figuring things out pretty fast. IMO Crudedragos has been the most helpful as he knows code and was willing to explain to the rest of us what it was doing. It's one thing to attempt experiments and theorize, but that pales in comparison to actually having knowledge of what the game is written to do.
