Sir who made this awesome mod
let me please give u my most appreciating warm congratulations!
ur mod is just simply AMAZING!!!
the installation is easy
the mod is compatible with pams harvestcraft which i have been struggling for so long to find one to be compatible with
ur mod's ores look just like the normal vanilla ores which is something I REALLY LIKE
and in overall u sir have tremendously helped me in making cave explorations THAT MUCH MORE entertaining.
thank u once again sir, if i could, i would kiss ur feet in honor and pleasure.
Good suggestion Gee, never even thought of that since the few SMP servers I'm on only play vanilla. I can definitely see this mod being useful and fun in SMP, especially for trading!
Hope it's not too hard to make SMP, everything I've heard is that it basically takes a re-write of the code.
TFC, are you going to wait for the 1.3 release before working on SMP? I beleive 1.3 is due out in the next couple of weeks and it's essentially supposed to merge SSP and SMP, but not sure which code format it'll take. If it's supposed to take SMP format, then does make a lot of sense to get a leg up on making SMP version. Just a friendly reminder about the chaos 1.3 is sure to cause!

Yeah, I think I might wait. I've tested it out on earlier versions, but I do have to make many changes to the code. However, when SMP and everything else is set up and awesome, I'll be able to play with some people online and mine up some sapphire!

I have plans to make a server when the modding API comes out, but it may be sooner if core mods (like this one! I love it that much!!) maintain SMP regularly.
I setup Minecraft for my roommate, he was skeptical about how useful the extra gems would be but he fell in love with the Gempack when he realized he can hoard iron for other uses. He's playing on Hard which he never used to enjoy because he died all the time, and finds the improved armor such a boon for that =)
What I love about this mod VS giant ones like Metallurgy or Inficraft, is that it's small and so it manages to help balance things out. Its scope isn't to add 150 gems just for fun. The tools all have actual uses. The slingshot is a lifesaver when you don't want to have to run upstairs from bedrock to get arrows all the time, or when you don't care to farm chickens.
Having this in SMP would be a freaking Goddess-send. =D
I need to get around to checking out Buildcraft. Wouldn't it take you a while to get this mining well thingy though?
You may be thinking of the Quarry which is insanely freaking expensive... and relies on you having oil, refined into fuel, and 4-5 combustion engines to boot. It's INSANE.
(And the main reason why I love the Gempack. No need to use iron or diamonds to make tools and armor!!!!)
Also: I am now addicted to Buildcraft. Ever played the game Pipe Dream? ;P

Really refreshing to hear someone almost exactly mirror my sentiments! I make it even more challenging by not using any vanilla items for my weapons and armor once I get my hands on apatite and go from there.
I think after Moonstone/white gem, TFC isn't planning to add any more gems and will be solely focusing on improving the content, balance, and depth to this mod, while working on other projects too. So it will remain small in terms of gems, which I think is good, but will expand on what you can DO with those gems. That's what I feel so many of the ore/gem packs are missing- you just mine and then make basic weapons, armor, and tools. TFC is shooting to try to add more depth to that- he already has with the slingshot and the weapons with effects and plans to go even further than that!
All I'll say is, when TFC eventually gets the gem cutting table done and the other stuff that goes with it, be VERY excited.
There's a lot going on with that gem cutting table code-wise though, so it'll take some time.
I'm really curious about the Miner Mob too, TFC's been hush hush about that but it's a fun touch to an gem mod.
Basically, I've been on board with TFC from the start because this is a gem mod that tries to go beyond merely adding gems. I hope once people see the extra layers this mod is adding to mining beyond the mining itself, more people will jump on board.
If you ever set up that server and it's open to people, let me know and I'll try to join!
Never played Pipe Dream, guess I REALLY should check out BC sooner than later...
The gear in the middle is made with 4 sticks, 4 stone, and 4 iron.
Interesting! I like the notion of digging my way down to the bedrock on my own and poking around a bit blindly in the dark, but perhaps I'll check that thingy out.
Yeah, I find that kind of mind-boggling that you would have to figure out how to craft all the stuff in Inficraft. I do plan to add a lot more unique items.
Actually, I might plan on a few more gems. Maybe. Although, you make a good point because those won't come soon. After I finish moonstone, I will work on about a million things to make this mod very unique, and then I might add more gems. However, I will never just add a million gems without special effects and be all "OK THIS ONE IS ALL OVERPOWERED BUT DOES NOTHING KBAI", and I'm glad you guys are sticking with the mod because of that. The next thing I am adding after these bugfixes will hopefully be the cutting table, which will replace that pesky little easter egg
Sorry, I had pictures here before until one time my post got screwed up. I'll add more soon, but I suggest looking at the first mod review; it has the best representation I've seen.
The armor textures for when they are on the character are messed up!
Make sure to check if you are using any other mods. The armor works fine for me as a standalone. Soon there will be a patch where you can change armor ID's, so hang in there. It shouldn't be too much of a problem for a while
Hey TFC i just downloaded your mod and for some reason i cant get the correct version of forge. if you could please let me know the correct version number i would very much appreciate it. Oh and this is one of my favorite mods even tho i havent even been able to use it.
Edit: I just got it to work with a clean .jar BUT this time the ores werent generating AND i couldnt find the ores in the creative mode times liest Please reply as soon as possible thanks! Keep Coding!

Are the gems, tools, weapons, and armor in your creative mode inventory? If so, it installed fine and you'll need to go to ungenerated chunks of land for the ores to generate.

Thanks so much dude! I really appreciate it!
Very good point I'll try to make it SMP as soon as possible
Thanks! I love when people leave awesome reviews of this
That would be amazing make sure to post the link on here!

Seriously, anytime I start a new world in survival, all I do is dig for the first couple of hours.
I would do this, but I just get too lazy and use the Mining Well from Buildcraft after a while XD
Actually, not really:

Yep, when there's VIDEOS you are complaining about pictures.

Makes for some nice wall designs too!
