Well I like the progress but have a few issues that I'm sure others have had as well. The most important and extremely frustrating one is charcoal. The way it used to work is the charcoal stored in the firepit when it was done, I'm not sure why this was changed. Yes then you could re-use the firepit and that may not be realistic but it's not the few sticks I have an issue with losing. What I do have an issue with is any time you want charcoal you have to stand by the mound waiting for it to stop burning or lose ALL of your charcoal because it just flops on the ground. If the reason for removing the firepit storing system was it was unrealistic I'd have to say a mound of charcoal vaporizing after five minutes is WAY more unrealistic.
The other issue is the new "anvil" system, not the double ingots but the stone. In theory this could make it easier on some people but gathering the stone for an anvil before was not all that hard. I assume this is because he removed stone picks; however my issue is that about 40% of the time when it does the little animation that turns the stone into an anvil it crashes my game. It's really annoying when you're working with metals that cool quickly and it crashes 40% of the time. Maybe just get rid of that animation since it's pointless?
I don't know how many people are having the crashing issue but I can be sure a lot of people really hate either losing their charcoal or babysitting the thing for fifteen minutes. Still a fun mod but the bugs (and or changes) just like before make it frustrating to play. I like a challenge but don't like getting hosed over and over.
Stones turning into stone anvils is actually a bug, by my understanding, and it's meant to simply present the anvil gui and act as an anvil without actually causing a block change. Presumably your crash issue (this is the first I've seen of such) will be resolved when that bug is resolved.
As for the charcoal pit, there are some very workable strategies for preventing charcoal loss. For example: you can utilize sand that falls to the block beside and one lower than the firepit, and stand on said block while you go afk and wait for the charcoal to finish. Once the log piles disappear, the sand falls and drops you right into position to automatically collect the charcoal. If you can't afk for a while, then... I can't help but wonder why you'd play a mod that slows down Minecraft progression so significantly with time constraints that bad.

You've missed the point of the mod. In the stoneage, people sure as heck didn't sleep on burning log heaps to wait for the charcoal to magically gather to them. There is a legitemate problem with the current system, as it takes so very long, and can be lost so very fast. I've lost days work loading pits in a very short time, and that's not realistic. I'm sure the developer needs to know how that change is affecting players.

In the official forums you can see that a block of charcoal stack/pile is being discussed to remediate this

That change was supposed to make the game more realistic and harder, not easier. There is not such thing as crafting a stone anvil out of stones, you need to work on raw stone directly, you can move said stone but currently it's a bit buggy with the GUI and the biome system

Have you tested this technique? Last time I heard, it doesn't work, the blocks don't get updated automatically and won't fall

Thanks Esteban, I apologize for not checking the forum first and I hope they do implement something like that.
I think it does make it easier because you don't have to mine all the smooth stone but on the same hand he removed the stone picks which presents more of a challenge. You used to be able to make a stone anvil out of smooth stone last time I played this mod. I tried placing stone with a few different types and yeah it didn't work, maybe it will in the future.
@SilvasRuin: EldingArtist already kind of made my point. It's not that I can't sit there with my thumb in my ass and wait it's that I really shouldn't have to. When it dropped in the pit it made more sense even if the firepit should have been destroyed. In trying to make it so you couldn't reuse a few sticks he made it so you can easily lose all your charcoal. The charcoal would not just disappear it would stay there and eventually turn into lye...
those are just a couple of the many pictures I took in my test world, all of those green and white blocks are the mod's blocks. It also seems that I can't break blocks.

You installed it wrong. I'd say what to fix, but what you need is to re-download all necessary files and read the instructions thoroughly as you install it from scratch.
hello everyone, I just started playing TFC and just starting to understand the mechanics of it, made it to the bronze age so far and having fun.
Definitely more challenging the vanilla MC, and definitely different then the usual tech mods I play.
I think I found a bug (maybe been reported, don't know) but I was cooking up some copper and tin to make bronze when I was called away from the keyboard so I hit Esc. to pause the game when I came back the copper in my inventory which was liquid (was just about to go to the metallurgy table) at the time of pause was completely cooled off when I unpaused the game.
Just wondering if it suppose to be that way?
No biggie still having fun, just had to waste more coal.
edit: cave-ins are scary cool, I love it, really makes you think about what your doing.
cave-ins should have been in MC from the begining. well they kinda are but not like this

Agreed. I caved in the ceiling on my buddy earlier today. He did it to me before so he had it coming and it was hilarious but it did mess up our way out a bit. xD

Actually, you're wrong. That is almost exactly what they did(granted they didn't stand on the pile). Someone was assigned to watch a charcoal pile until it was done. That means staying all day and night just watching it. In fact they invented a one legged stool so that the watcher would fall over if he fell asleep while he was supposed to be keeping an eye on the pile.
That said, I'm fully aware that charcoal loss is an issue and I'll be remedying it soon.
Can anyone email me a copy of the jar file with the mod installed? I would really appreciate it cuz i'm horible at installing mods and can't get it right even with a video tutorial.

This is all news to me, but I'm happy to see you're trying for a solution. There had to have been some sort of visual or scent sign that it was ready, and since you can't smell in video games, I imagine you have your work cut out for you either way. Merry coding.
PS. This was meant in earnest. I very seriously hope you find some enjoyment in producing this mod, as your quality is amazing, and your mod has replaced any other I had interest in.

Sorry, it's illegal to distribute the Minecraft jar file no matter how modified. You should try using MCPatcher to install the mod.
