It's a lot harder to make a hole in a wall when it comes crashing down on you. I suppose, but honestly I would rather stick to the metallurgy side of the mod - maybe bioxx could make a custom difficulty without hostile mobs, but still have hunger on? Iunno though. I'm probably going to wait until later to use this, because I don't feel like making a new world almost every time the mod updates.
Yeah waiting for a bit till the world changing updates are set I hear you. For the mobs you could run mo' creatures aswell and use it to have only passive mobs to enjoy the metal work/survival.
I've been playing this mod for a bit now.. and I'm curious but is the fact that the javelin can't seem to be broken correct? Or is it the durability for it just not programmed in yet?
What house? You need a lot of flint to make a house out of wood, and it takes a long time to dig dirt in the beginning. So...
4 flint tools max. Then you have enough cobble for a pick and enough wood for a crafting table (get the cobble first but don't use up the flint tool, can still cut a plank with it). After that you have stone picks and stone axes, and all the wood you can stand to make.
It is supposed to take longer and be harder to do this stuff, but it's not nearly as difficult as you're making it.
I've gotten a pattern down for when I start a new world with this mod. Collect 4-5 flint.. collect some sticks.. then find a surface source of stone. Use the flint tools I make till they are about to break collecting stone and some wood. Then break 4 flint tools to make 4 planks and a crafting table. After that perma switch to stone tools.
Just a thought about the prospectors pickaxe (maybe it just come with better tier items and I havent gotten to them yet). Ive been hunting down ores and rocks left and right, and I get "No items of intrest or XXX is near by", and I was thinking if along with that it also tells you the type of block you clicked on. I think it would give the prospectors pick to be much more useful.
Just a thought, and again this mod is amazing I cant wait for more.
This mod has made building dirt houses fun again =) It completely changes the game, and so much for the better. atm I only have one suggestion that would for me make it more realistic ( which seems to be the way this mod is geared) and that would be if when trees were chopped down with their leaves on that the leaves would still drop sticks and saplings. Possibly not as many as if gathered by hand, but I think it's be a nice touch why still making gathering them by hand something worth doing. Especially with the really tall trees this would be useful (at least from a sapling point of view).
I am really excited to see what you do with this mod in the future
Is anyone having trouble finding Reeds? I living in a swamp and have passed over 4-10 Biomes looking for some and nothing... EDIT:: OK WTF!!! My Ores are not smelting. When I get to the point of where it should go to unshaped. It disappears completely!!!
No problem finding reeds for me so far.
Can't help with the smelting as I am still running around with stone tools and a loin cloth. Actually a loin cloth would be a great first armour =D

.... a noob could create a new flint for everything he wanted... making 4(crafting table) 1(cobble) ...so to get a pick it could be 5
plus a bed... if he was stupid enough to NOT get a axe first then +3
so thats 8
then he wants an axe... so like 4 may be max for us players...
but technachally its still MINIMAL also, cause you can't go lower.. but you COULD go higher =\
I also started meddling with this mod (for a while already) and it's a difficult one to start with. Restarted many times and genned several worlds. But once you start rolling there is almost no stopping.
I really like this mod, especially if your first house is in a cave with a dirt roof.
Not (do place torches on that dirt), it's FUN as they call it in dwarf fortress
Yesterday I found a nice little and easy protection system against creepers. Works also for skeletons and zombies, but these are more manageable (I rather catch an arrow or a punch with my face, then filling up a explosion crater).
A mob in the leaves won't see you, the reverse is also true. I was followed by a train of creepers and ran into the leaves of a nearby tree (just an experiment). To my amusement, the mobs stopped where the leaves started, instead of following me into it. So, I destroyed the inner ring of leaves, dug 1 level lower which made my eye level at their feet and started hitting them with my spear. Those were some nice and easy scores.
@SOTMead:
Really like your series, keep going and also a good looking avatar you have there
=\
yes the leaf trick is a good one.... but his avatar looks like a dude dien... it was amusing at first but now.... =\
Ok... What is with all this pony stuff I am starting to see....? I seriously doubt a ton of chicks have suddenly become gamers. I am just worried this means I will never get to see my major 40k HH film due to lack of masculine demand
I get that the mod's prospect is for realism, but seriously, could you make the game more tedious?
I thought vanilla mining was boring, then I placed TFC in my .jar....
I can say one thing, my experience with this mod has given me a new appreciation for vanilla, for sure; I just feel bad because it looks like you worked pretty hard on this, I just cannot fathom why someone could stand how slow and tedious ascending tiers are, or even getting basic tools started, maybe it's just me, but having played it for seemingly too long and gotten very minimal in the way of rewards, I'm going to go ahead and pass.
Thanks for all the cobble.
This Mod is simply not for you since you need more rewards to enjoy a game. But don't think you got a point for the others in here, i like it that way, it could be even harder. Vanilla is incredibly dull compared to this, plus its not stupid grinding - there went alot of thought into prospecting ores, on how to smelt.
If you can't find ore fast, you do it wrong.
If you can't craft tools fast, you do it wrong.
This mod requires personal understanding and practice not luck. Show me one world in vanilla where i couldnt find Iron within 10 minutes without any tools beforehand, smelt it and craft myself a nice looking sword. It is simply a matter of stupid luck. I don't feel like its fun to dig out the ores since there are so many around, its more a tedious work, ANY cave, any spot is good.
TFC actually requires more thought. Prepare well and you shall be rewarded. Dont plan (or dont understand) it and you're in for a depressing experience.
I suggest you move along, this mod is to hard for you (no offence).
We're not chicks.. We're guys just like you and everypony else. The difference between you and me are that I watch mlp:fim. You properly doesn't. . But that doesn't make us different persons. We all can Love & Tolerate no matter what anypony's watching.
Ok, now THAT scares ME....
I can Tolerate a person, but false beliefs i cannot...

ok, don't say this to me. this is not too hard for me (although i disagree that it doesn't require ANY luck)
I luv the mod.
i agree that the achievments are harder to get, i like it.

and for avatars... ur one to talk, you and ur pink flying pillow puffand before someone starts swearing at me... im not bashing Avatars. just stating my preference, and giving my oppion on those who choose to type stupid hypicrical comments.
Not at all "scared" of you avatar pic or personal preference. It is cool to like niche stuff I was just saying I was scared that fewer dudes appear to like 40k type content so I will never get my epic series of HH films.
Also in the spirit of not hijacking the thread from TFC I have to say an unexpected result of TFC caves is a much more hostile darkness spawns in the OW! Is this just me? Have yet to exploit this with a mob grinder but I think I will in my current world to see the efficiency vice vanilla. Lord do I love TNT in this XD
*Rolls her eyes* How about you just stop responding to the ponies. Then they'll have nothing to respond to. Use some common sense and lets get back to the subject at hand, and that is this mod.
I'm still in the stone age, and if anything I think this mod could do with being a little harder Hopefully at some point maybe the vanilla mobs could be cranked up in difficulty. Also something like the finite water mod with this mod would make a lot of sense. Would still like to see sticks and sapplings drop from the trees when I cut them down though (yea I know that would make things slightly easier, but more for realisms sake).
Hunt down another source of granite.. Hmm.. I'm almost tempted to attempt a lets play with TF on this map.. but I'd have to cheat at least a single tree into existence first. LOL
Best bet from there, fleash out your base with plenty of stone tools and cow farm for armor / food IMO. Get your charcole baking, plenty or torches ect. Then prospect like a mad man! I shoot off from my base one direction at a time as far as I dare go slapping the ground with the prospecting pick every 15-20 blocks. I mark readings of interest for later that I can not work yet. I pay close attention to the stones and make sure I ID new stuff I see. If I come up null on tin or zinc I go after an ore I found in the rock type for tin or zinc. Inevitably I get readings for tin or zinc if all else has failed while exploiting that other ore.
