Does anyone know of a good Buildcraft picture tutorial that is updated for the version used in BTB? I want to get a better idea of what I'll need to plan for in building any complex machinery but I keep finding either outdated guides or conflicting information. I'd like to know what pipe configurations work and which don't and what concerns I need to keep in mind regarding engines overheating.
Some example refinery, quarry, and oil well systems with detailed layouts would be useful.
Just wanted to note that the 1.1 version of Better Than Wolves that just came out (V 3.491) is obviously NOT compatible with BTB, since BTB is still working off version 1.0 of Minecraft.
If you need to old 1.0 version of BTW to work with it, it can be found here:
Well, no one has reported a bug of this kind, and it works fine in my own game, so I can only assume something has gone wrong over time in your .jar.
My advice would be to start again with a clean .jar and install everything over. You may have a remnant of an old mod in there or something that is causing things to go wonky.
Also, I find it a little strange that you have the infinite water-buckets available in TMI since the Hardcore Buckets directly replace them. I'm not sure exactly how TMI works internally, but they really shouldn't be accessible through any means.
yes its quiet strange i have two sets of each buckets (lava and water) im re installing though, maybe because i have id resolver installed?

There's your answer. It happened to me too, until i removed ID Resolver.

Playing since Beta 1.3_01. Yeah. I like BTW. Or used to. Still do. Stuff Technic. (Back in the day...)

Nope, just tried it then and got the same problem, its no big deal cause BTW is epic as it is, just thought it would be good to have a bit of buildcraft too
like flowerchild said its probably because you have 1.1 installed which is NOT compatible with buildcraft

Make sure that you installed version 2.2.11, (the last version for MC 1.0)NOT 2.2.12 which is for MC 1.1
I just started playing with the Better Than Buildcraft installed and have never used Buildcraft before. I've run into two questions I'm hoping someone here can answer for me:
1) With using the now default Hardcore Bucket Mode, if I wanted to create a moat of water or lava, do I just need a pump, a ton of waterproof stone pipes, and an engine to run the pump? Is it more complicated than that?
2) Is there good text material out there somewhere for how Buildcraft devices work? The Buildcraft site has a recipe list, but other than that all of the links I'm finding are to YouTube videos and I just find it difficult to learn how to use a mod from videos; I'm more of a written documentation type.

Minecraft 1.6.6: Where the mushrooms begin to take over the world. You thought pod people were bad? Wait till the mushrooms start walking.
I've tried really hard, but I can't seem to generate harvestable obsidian using Better Than Buildcraft 1.10!
I've finally gotten a pump, and can pump lava around, but I can't seem to do anything with the lava once it's in the pipes. I can fill up a tank, gather buckets of useless Hardcore Bucket lava out of it, but once the lava is in the pipes it won't come back out again or be useable in any way.
My plan was to pump lava out of a lava lake into an obsidian trough and then carry ten buckets of water from a source pool some ways away, but I'm finding this to be a complete waste of time since there's no way to fill up the lava trough.
Is my only way, seriously, to fill up my lava pool with sand until it's one deep, then hit it with a spout? This is insane, I can't work like that and get obsidian at any kind of reasonable rate.
Even worse, creating a config file called BTWConfig.txt in my .minecraft folder and putting the text 'fcEnableHardcoreBuckets=0' in it does absolutely nothing. Looks like I get to hack my inventory and give myself an infinite stack of lava and water source blocks.
I love the rest of it though!
EDIT; maybe I'm just dumb, I think I managed to make lava source blocks by pulling buckets out of the tank and putting them in the trough, they seem permanent, now I'll hit it with some water and see if I'm legit or just a whiner
MORE EDIT; I just made a trough full of cobble. It really sucks to get this far in the BTB game and then be completely stuck. Isn't -anyone- else having this trouble? Am I just 'special'?

Spacetoad wrote a guide that you can purchase for $2.00 that gives some technical stuff for buildcraft.
Check his thread for the link. It goes to a good cause since he provides allot of info in it.

There should be either a BTW config or a HCB config that you can just drop in your .minecraft folder to turn HCB off.
I keep getting a "Saving Chunks" crash while trying to build a fence. I can sometimes get one or two pieces of fence down, but then the game crashes.
I do have some other mods installed, but everything was running fine until I planted some hemp and started fencing off the area.
I'll attach my modloader.txt, but like I said, the game loads and plays, it crashes later.

Sounds like you might have the Forge installed. It's not compatible with this mod.
@tankfox: Having water flowing from an existing source block onto lava isn't that difficult; just cool the top layer, block the water with some dirt and dig around the outsides. rinse/repeat till you think you're safe enough to start mining the stuff and you're done.
When I have tried this in the past I invariably end up having the obsidian, myself, or both fall down into the lava below the surface layer. That is why I prefer removing the lava blocks from the pool and placing them in a separate cooling trough.
I'm really surprised that the piping system is unable to accomplish this for me, it most certainly removes the lava source blocks, but then appears to be unable to use them in a constructive way. I suspect that this is primarily a failing of Buildcraft, but perhaps Better than Buildcraft could provide a lava spout block for this specific purpose! The restriction of the spout being 'water only' seems like a particular arbitrary restriction that really limits their utility.
This game appears to be about the means of manufacture, it's about finding better and more efficient ways of generating large amounts of source materials to allow you to move to successive steps.
Obsidian is one of these materials. I would like my dog kennel area to become a forest of obsidian intake pipes so I stop losing poop, but the Better than Buildcraft mod both specifically require three times as much obsidian per pipe while removing the means to efficiently generate large amounts of it.
So far this is the only major flaw I have seen with Better than Buildcraft, in fact the only other nit-pick I have is that I would prefer an alternative to dung be available, as in my first playthrough I had to cheat up some wolves when they refused to spawn in my world.
@Brethern Yes, that's what the instructions say, and it would be nice if it was true. The only BTWConfig.txt file in my .minecraft folder is the one I created and put there, and the contents of it are cut and pasted directly from the wiki 'fcEnableHardcoreBuckets=0'. I don't get what I'm doing wrong here.
Some example refinery, quarry, and oil well systems with detailed layouts would be useful.
Yeah, you forgot to put the Buildcraft zips into your mod folder.

Sounds like you might have the Forge installed. It's not compatible with this mod.
