no I had to use another mod called JEI for 1.8.9 I believe it's 1.9+. If you want the spawner functions like nei had you could download my mod silk spawners for 1.8.9 and then search the mob you want. As for 1.9+ I think it's available.
So, when did this whole JEI thing come around, and why? Seems like it's overcomplicating the installation of NEI by making it a requirement (seemingly without even listing it as one).
After MC 1.7.10 NEI got abandoned by Chickenbones, pretty much.
Someone else made a mod for 1.8.9 that ventured to better NEI. This mod was JEI.
A lot of mod developers actually think JEI is easier to write compatible code for.
Then a group of programmers decided to take Chickenbones' mods and keep developing them.
They only took a few things from NEI though, like the Cheat Mode buttons in the left upper part of the creative inventory screen.
So the NEI versions for MC 1.8.9+ only contain these extra features. They are basically an add-on to JEI.
Be glad that JEI exists at all. Without it, there probably wouldn't have been an NEI.
Ah, I understand now, thank you. In that case then I'm definitely glad JEI is around. That also explains why the OP hasn't been updated, I didn't know he actually abandoned his mods. Seems to be happening to a lot of good mods lately, the modding community for Minecraft feels a lot smaller than it was a couple years ago.

Looks like NEI removes the JEI search box shortly after it renders, but then fails to render its own. Tested with only NEI, JEI and CodeChickenCore loaded.

Also, an unrelated request, if I may - would it be possible to put the 1.10.2 versions of NEI on Curse? It would help enormously with managing modpack updates. If there is some reason why not, I understand though.
* This version or one close to it, will check when I get home and confirm.
NEI for MC 1.10.2 is no more than an add-on to JEI. Ergo: it needs JEI.
It has only been the most asked and answered question in this thread of the past couple of weeks, though.
What is JEI? I don't see it on the first page.
EDIT: I looked up JEI and grabbed the latest version on the curse files page. I get the same error as above, except replace "Not Enough Items" with "Just Enough Items".
NEI currently breaks my reading system on block break event. I have tried both highest and lowest priorities for reading spawners and updating their nbt's. How should I approach this since clearly on block place event isn't fast enough? It won't update the tile entity on item interact event what should I do why does this mod like to break everything?!?!??!?!?
Starting on line 436 is where my reader is. It works without nei. Ends on line 483
If you are talking about not being able to read item names, it might actually be a problem with JEI. happened to me when i updated to latest release version, but works again in version 3.10.0.261. (BTW that was probable a very good technical explanation for your problem, but i do not under stand a lot of what you said)
It was made as a substitute for the old NEI when Chickenbones' disappearance meant that his mods did not get updated past Minecraft 1.8(.0)
And now it is pretty much the permanent substitute of NEI, since the new maintainers of NEI decided to strip NEI of pretty much all functionality that JEI already contained.
So I got JEI working but I had to totally remove NEI from the mods folder for it to work. What is the purpose of NEI existing still?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
You don't need more pickaxes, but you're getting them anyways.
Did you read my post? I am talking about getting an tileentity to read nbt and it works upon block placement without nei with it it breaks everything. It sucessfully get's the nbt it's the tileentity overrides that are doing stuff. I need this compatible with nei as I support NEI.
Also since NEI is open source I want to copy the models that the entities have for my own blocks if the config is true along with vanilla mob spawners and others if the entity nbt is a valid entity. How are the models created since the code is split up into 14 things.

AshramFR, you should look into the More Overlays mod, all it adds is the same type of overlay as NEI, and a chunk boundaries overlay.
The latest update at time of this post was only a day ago, so I would assume that it will continue to be updated.
The one bug that i noticed when i used it, (having since switched back to NEI) was that it placed crosses where there shouldn't have been able to pop-up
Also, it comes with the same default control's, seeing as how it was made to be a replacement for that area of NEI when it went cold for a while
