This is easily one of the best ore mods I've used; keeps the vanilla feel and doesn't add an overwhelming amount of stuff.
I do have a few suggestions though; Copper shears would be wonderful, there have been a few times where I was stuck killing dozens of spiders for string because I had only one sheep and no iron, not to big of a deal, but it would defiantly be nice.
Also, doing a big project that needs a lot of water/lava it saves time to make a bunch or extra buckets, but when it's finished I'm stuck with 7 buckets I'm never going to need that have an armor suit's worth of metal locked up in them, so a way to turn them back into ingots would be fantastic.
Finally; since this is an ore mod, I think the tedium of mining coal could be addressed. A vein of 30 coal takes ages to mine and I often find myself ignoring it as a result. What would be better is having veins of roughly 10 coal ore with each ore dropping three coal. You would still get the same amount of coal, but save a lot of time.
Dang it. It updated to 1.4.5, but 1.4.6 came out before I got here and the internet. I wish I could just get 1.4.5 and not 1.4.6. Forge apparently needs to get something once you install it or something. I thought all you had to do was download and install it, like any other mod. Yeah, I agree with whoever said it's one of the best ore mods. It's pretty simple, yet adds more depth. The best part though is the Silver and Onyx though (finally, a nether ore). I still have yet to try netherrocks, but I really don't like the idea of several nether ores though. Three, possibly four tops would be preferred.
I'm glad they might be adding a nether ore or two in 1.5 though. Like I said before, the nether needs something more to look forward to, something more to cross it's treacherous terrian. Nether forts and glowstone can become redundant after you got enough or a netherwart farm going. I still think they need to add biome-like areas though (on addition to an ore or two), like in the vein of pre-biome minecraft.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
An update for 1.4.6 will be in the next couple of days. Sorry for the wait, family christmas vacation thingo, didn't really have access to my computer.

Hey guys I have been working on an auto installer for SimpleOres (and in Netherrocks if it turns out okay). It's just a simple .bat file (so it only works on Windows, sorry), that SHOULD create a backup of your minecraft.jar, then install SimpleOres. Unfortunately, Minecraft Forge must be installed manually first (I'm not allowed to include that in the auto installer), and the installer cannot detect if you are using a compatible version of Minecraft, etc.
You can find the installer HERE, just read the README if you need help.
All the code from the .bat is in the spoilers below, to prove it's not a virus Also, HERE is a VirusTotal scan if you're not convinced
Please leave any feedback, I would love it if you guys could try it and let me know what you think. Obviously it's not going to be the most amazing installer (I'm not that good ), but I would like to improve it and eventually include Netherrocks if it works, so you can easily install both (or just one) of my mods from a simple installer. I will also convert it to an .exe if it works well
Thanks guys

Cool but it needs 1.4.6 first and i understand that you dont have all of the time but I'll wait One of my favorite ores mod. I never liked metallurgy. It was pointless to add a bazillion ores and alloys. I like the conception of the ores and onyx being in the nether. Maybe you can change the texture of onyx into looking more rock like, instead of being a black diamond. Maybe I could help Also, I agree with mainlyForQuestions with the shears idea. I think copper should have every use iron has but a bit less efficient but easier to make. Maybe one day you can get those doors to work Maybe next you can try copper bars? Not as strong as iron but still pretty good and easy to make. Anyways great mod and I hope it updates soon.
Yeah, Onyx needs to look a little more unique in the future. I don't think it should be an ingot or diamond reskin. It needs it's own custom look (like more pebble or smooth rock-ish), though that's not too important for now. I'm really just putting something out there for future reference, so this mod can evolve. If anything, I'd rather it look like black diamond than an ingot. It looks better as a black diamond than an ingot.
Yeah, I think evolution for this mod (and its sister mod) is better/ more unique looking ores, refined versions, and tools, with possibly more uses, rather than more ores. Unlike Mo Creatures, adding more of what this mod adds isn't needed. It just needs a little more refining and tweaking, for future updates.
Also, I wonder what's causing issues with adding door(s). I've seen other mods add different doors. I remember a tree mod that added doors for each treee type it added. I could of sworn the plasticcraft guy had a mod involving doors. Maybe, the coding for such a thing got harder in the past few updates.
Edit: Yes, I know there's a texture pack or two for that, but I use Feathersong and I don't think it supports this mod, so I'd like to see new vanilla textures for the ores and their refined versions in the future.
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
I do have a question, someday I may make a modpack, but before I would ever plan on doing so, I will be asking all the different modders for permission to use their mod in the modpack. If I do decide that Id like to make a modpack, would you allow me to use simpleores and netherocks in it? They are my two favorite ore mods.

The onyx ingot IS a gem. That was changed in one of the previous versions, ages ago. I just never got around to updating the picture
Also, there has never been any intention to add any more ores. It has been at a total of 5 for a long time now, and I always let people know that I will not be adding more ores. As for changing their appearance, I like the way that they are in keeping with the current Minecraft style. My plan was always to add a small amount of content to the game without changing what it's really about.
I'm not sure you realised the age of this mod when you posted. The mod IS refined, and tweaked to hell, to the point where I am happy with it. Balance was my main intention, and it took a lot of thought and attempts to get it to where it is now. While I may add more uses for the ores, there will not be any more major changes (other than coding ones, like for the modding API in 1.5).
And the issues I had with doors were simply a lack of knowledge on my behalf, and a lack of documentation or tutorials.
Patience. I'm doing it now. Forge have changed how they do things (yet again) though, so give me a bit of time.
EDIT: Oh and guys I have modified the main SimpleOres image to be more of a banner. I'll add it to the "Banners" section on the main post, but for now here is the image:
Just one question: I'm playing it on 1.4.5, if i update to 1.4.6 and after entering the game I install the mod I'll lose my progress?
I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you update Minecraft and SimpleOres both to 1.4.6 at the same time, you should not lose anything at all. If you update Minecraft and load your world without SimpleOres installed, you will lose everything, even if you install SimpleOres later.

Can't wait until 1.4.6 version By the way.
