Could you find a way to remove tall grass from snow and snowy taiga biomes?
I thought my current "snow above tallgrass but renders as in it" worked well... Okay, I'll add a toggle for snow overwriting plants (including flowers and bamboo, not just tallgrass, wheat will obviously be untouc... hmm... I had been looking for ideas for a "Hardcore Snow" mode, maybe snow destroying wheat and you have to cover your farms could be a part of it? As well as that blizzard idea...)
In retrospect it actually is a lot harder to break blocks like that (as well as minecart tracks!), so yeah, I'll add the option for snow to overwrite tallgrass and flowers. (Destroying wheat will be a "Hardcore Snow" exclusive for balance purposes, whatever little amount of "balance" the mod has :tongue.gif:)
As for an ETA on the next update: I am currently 1) snowed in, 2) have a coming-of-age ceremony on Saturday (it's a Japanese thing), 3) still trying to study Korean, 4) keep losing power, and 5) natural snow cones. So I can't give any kind of definite release date. I'll keep posting stuff I add, and you can figure from there. Current tasks in order of priority:
*Make snowfall buildup look better (the World.class method I tried yesterday looked good but truncated snowfall to level 2!)
*Snow overwrites plants (toggleable)
*Varied maximum snow levels by biome (full amount in taiga and extremeHills, only to level 1 in desert, etc). Must figure out how to check a block's biome first.
*"Hardcore Snow" mode (may or may not be linked to the actual in-game Hardcore Mode, it'll probably be another toggle):
**Indefinite snow buildup in all biomes (when a BlockSnow reaches thickness level 7, convert to a BlockSnowBlock, let snow build on top, rinse and repeat until some max height, maybe 8 blocks thick)
**Snow overwrites wheat and stems, cover your crops!
**Walk slower in thick snow (like Soul Sand)
**Must wear leather armor when being snowed on, otherwise frostbite (in the form of food exhaustion)

- Ice should form when the snow lands on the water or something like that : D
- Foot prints in the snow? im not sure if this is possible though hahahha : D
- Could there be a setting so you could make the snow last for a random period of time, and after it stops snowing, it would melt slowly? or something like that, again not sure if this is possible : D
But, i love this mod, this really should be in normal minecraft, well atleast the snow forming on all types of blocks : D
Also, i made a video for the current version!
*snip*
*...Ice already forms when being snowed on...
*Footprints in snow: I think there's already a mod for that, but it does it for ALL soft blocks. And seems to have a problem with overwriting plant life. (Footprints are a BLOCK ID???)
*It wouldn't be too hard. Snow thickness increments when being snowed on, it'd be trivial to have it decrement when not snowing... but when will it not be snowing? Oh, you want snow to gradually melt away when snowAllDayErryday=false?
And that is a cool video, and really nice village :wink.gif:
Afterthought: Oh Netherrack, I just realized: ModLoader mods can be disabled from a global config file, which I assume means ModLoader just won't load that particular mod_someMod.class... but the way my mod is set up, BiomeGenBase breaks if mod_AdvancedWinterMode.class never runs. Gotta fix that.
Edit: Bam. Copied the vanilla biome defs back into BiomeGenBase, so if mod_AdvancedWinterMode is turned off, Minecraft won't segfault at "Loading world". And thanks to more help from #risucraft, I skooshed two more problems with one method: The mod is no longer dependent on WorldInfo (instead calling WorldInfo.setIsRaining(true) on each tick, I know it's still messy but better than the old way; unfortunately, it'll still be snowing when you turn snowAllDayErryday off, but you can wait it out, use a bed, or toggle with TooManyItems), and I fixed the bug that's been in since Simple 1.0; namely, weather effect confliderp when client has mod but server doesn't. Since BaseMod.OnTickInGame() contains a direct link to the active World instance (game.theWorld), it can correctly detect if the game is in SMP or not and act accordingly.
Still going to add more stuff before next update, but hey, fewer bugs!
Okay, I've been trying for about 2 days to get the advanced winter mode working, and I just get a black screen. Can someone please tell me what I need to install, and in which order?

Download clean jar.
Delete meta-inf in the jar (or if you have a mac, delete the mojang* files inside meta-inf)
Copy Modloader 1.1 files to the jar
Copy Advanced Winter Mode files to the jar
Hey, for some reason I'm noticing my seeds won't plant... Can't seem to figure it out, I have a small underground farm I started on a new world (fresh install with just ModLoader & this mod) and whenever I try to add seeds into tilled dirt it turns back into a normal dirt block & consumes the seed. Any thoughts?

it's like a couples mods built into one mod then you just added your own stuff... theres a better winters mod a footprints mod and a couple others just like this it looks like u just added them into one...

Well, it started out as "make it snow all the time and everywhere in a world like what MCAlpha Winter Mode did". Then I added other stuff, like the snow levels (which was actually inspired by BetterWinters, but at the time I didn't know BW was still being updated, the wiki mod list needs to be updated more often). As for footprints, I have not and do not plan to add it, because 1) there's already a mod that does it and does it well, 2) the addition of snow thicknesses would bork it, and 3) I currently haven't figured out how to change textures on an existing block.

Wow the snow is almost above as me and only one flaw: Can you make some clear breaks and the snow melts because my house is now half covered in snow and I dont want to ruin the snow.

Planned for the "realism" mode, once I figure out which class actually does weather timing. Right now my control of Minecraft weather is binary; either "it's snowing" or "it's not snowing", I don't know how to set an arbitrary duration yet Oh duh, WorldInfo.setRainTime(). But I still have to experiment to figure out exactly what timing it uses. Ticks, seconds, some other timescale? But it is planned for a future update, to choose between "snow all day erryday" and "snow most of the time, with ocassional breaks". Biggest thing I need to figure out is how to make BlockBed not reset the weather timer >_<
Edit: Still need to experiment to find out how Minecraft's internal timing system works, but I did just have an idea for implementation. Two new integer controls in the config file, one for how many days to have it snow (ignoring bed usage, just counting the day/night cycles if I can find out how), and how many days to go between snows. The default will be 1 day of snow, 0 days of not-snow (i.e. when snow cycle ends the next begins instantly, so it'll seem continuous). I think it'll replace the current snowAllDayErryday, since if you want to disable snow completely set snowDays to 0 and noSnowDays to not-zero (to use the vanilla weather cycle, set both counters to 0).

I began getting this very same bug. On skyblock >.<
Great mod! Only thing is that i'd like to have at least a configfile option to have only this fikkin awesome multy-snow-layer option. Would give you if I had some so I have to give you :GoldBar:.
Oh and a to store it :wink.gif:
I know, I know. I've been meaning to move the screenshots to Dropbox, but between being snowed in, losing power for 3 hours two days in a row, and Seijin-shiki (Japanese coming-of-age ceremony) this weekend, I haven't had time.

Just the snow layer thing (and I assume snow on special blocks too)? I think you can already do that in the current version... In .minecraft/config/mod_AdvancedWinterMode.cfg, set thinSnow=false, snowAllDayErryday=false, and freezeAllTheBiomes=false. Snow biome locations will now revert to vanilla 1.1 behavior, but the snow will still be able to multi-layer :biggrin.gif:

Awesome, got a virus right after downloading this? I don't think it's the mod but you might want to check your links..
False positive, or maybe your antivirus just doesn't like Dropbox? I just scanned my local DB folder (since any changes made on the Dropbox server propagate to the local folder and vice versa), and Microsoft Security Essentials didn't see anything. The download is only a bunch of .class files inside a .zip, so... maybe your AV is suspicious of zip files?

how come SWM doesn't have an on/off or any options?
It was the prototype, when I was just trying to replicate the original Winter Mode. Since it doesn't use ModLoader, it can't access a config file. I'm going to be merging the two versions together (to make it easier to update, and so that EVERYTHING will be toggleable). There'll be a preset for Simple (renaming as Classic), with just the base stuff, no fancy snow renders or nothing; a preset for Advanced (renaming as Modern*), with the bells and whistles I've added; a third preset for Snow Mayhem (Advanced with snow going WAY out of control, unlimited buildup, all that fun stuff!); and an override where you can set individual toggles.
*Yes, Sonic Generations reference :P
