In a complete contrast to the Toastytoaster, I want to know something about Taint PREVENTION before I even go into this. With the Filters, is it possible to completely eliminate taint from the filtering process by running it through loads, and if so, how many are needed?
I was worried about taint when I started (legit, new world) also. It's really quite difficult to generate enough taint to cause problems unless you go out of your way to to corrupt your world intentionally. That being said, here's some starter tips for keeping taint levels low:
1. Build your thaumatorium in an area with silverwood and/or greatwood trees nearby as these indicate high natural aura levels. Although aura and taint are separate (and both can be high or low), chances are in that a newly generated area, a high natural aura level probably means a low natural taint level because there are only so many crystals that can generate in a chunk.
2. Try to use a condenser for a decent portion your vis production at the start. Yes, its easier to throw stuff in a crucible early on, but you're making a lot of taint when you use the starter crucible.
3. Stack your filters, so they look like a chimney. According to the wiki, stacked filters are better at reducing taint. Filters are not expensive to build, even in the early game. I immediately deployed a stack of 4 filters, and that worked really well for me.
4. Upgrade your crucible as soon as you can. It may take a while because research is not the easiest thing to jump into if you're playing legit, but once you get the upgraded crucibles, your taint production is pretty small even if you continue to burn things for your vis.
Don't worry, if you don't produce ton of taint, you should be fine with two parallel, five high filter towers.
Overkill, in my experience. Unless you're running assembly-line automated industrial-level vis production, a single stack of ~4 filters is plenty, especially if you get around half your vis from condensers (which isn't hard at all).
Also remember the bellows and a combo with the arcane furnace for the crucible, it works quite good.
True, according to the wiki. However:
1. Until someone proves the math in-game (or until it shows up in the wiki), I'm not convinced the bellows are a good investment early-game. Playing legit, 4 enchanted wood and an air crystal aren't cheap if its only an incremental gain. Crystals being one of the rarer resources in a legit game, I'd rather spend them on filters.
2. Again, I'd like to see the math on the furnace trick. The wiki says "greatly improves the efficiency" but it comes at the cost of coal. Coal isn't hard to find, obviously, but early in a legit game you won't necessarily be swimming in the stuff.
if you want to AVOID taint, filtering is the LAST thing you want to be doing, it spews it into the air.
I'd reccomend doing eldritch research to the point it starts giving other fragments, then using purifiers, whilst also running some concentrated evil upgraded collectors using tainted crystals
First off, we're talking about tips to get started in TC2 legit without generating too much taint in the process. Researching and constructing Eldritch machines isn't an early-game option.
Second, according to the wiki, "each additional filter in the stack reduces the amount of taint that gets pumped into the atmosphere - some of the taint is simply destroyed." Thus, for an early-game setup I think a stack of filters is clearly your best option.
is anyone else having difficulties with items added to the crucible list in the config just being rejected automatically? i cant seem to get nickolite to go in at all, even though it is first on the list in the config. (sorry if this seems confusing, thinking 5 different things at once can do this...)
EDIT: nevermind, it seems that it is just working on and off.....
i rly want eldritch stone but i dont have any id's for the stone or eldritch knowledge fragments. i dont even know where to find eldritch artifacts. please someone help me!

i said most of it, i occasionally use nbt edit to give myself items im too lazy to find on my own. also, i have no clue where to get eldritch items and artifacts and crap, so might as well use nbtedit and give myself the artifacts. id rather use my Q-box to find the recipe for eldritch stone instead of giving me it straight away.

Artifacts are found in dungeon chest. You need to find a village with a chest, a dungeon with a chest, or find chests in abandoned mineshafts and strongholds.

Just give yourself ender pearls and research them. Bam, eldritch fragments.
ok i dont mean to be a ****. but it seems that everyone is at least having only some troubles with this mod.. but im having some pretty bad ones. so 1. all the textures for every block the does something (chests open, the q block does its scribbles thing, the crystalizers top spins) and all mob textures including the players are ****EDDDDDD, like completly totaly ****ed like i had grass for eyes and a enchanter for a leg. second theres wierd floating **** in the sky. not the wisps, like just a flat black square, millions of them. then theres the fact that my game chrashes with no errors litteraly just dissapears every ounce and a while. just so you know if it makes any difference im also running equivaent exchange and optifine
It's probably optifine, that's the only thing that messes with the rendering engine like that. I had similar problems, so I installed the mutithreaded version and they went away.
Ah, brilliant. Thank you.
It's just yeah, I don't want my base to be a tainted mess :v
I have discovered them and read them.
just put down some vis filters and a whole bunch of those rune thingys
hope this helps
The crystal chest is located at this thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/981855-124-forge-sspsmpbukkit-ironchests-32/.
It is 9 by 12, which is 108 squares.

um, who overflowed my wood farm?
well most of it
see, im using the yogbox and occasionally using nbtedit

you put in the center depleted crystals
