That was 1.8 beta, not 1.8.1 release nor is it a normal forge mod or bukkit plugin and would most likely cause issues. Also, GTS looks like he's using VeinMiner not this mod. This mod is insanely out of date.

first of all the download might of bugged
second of all this mod is immensly old and the last post was around two years ago
third of all this is for 1.8 beta minecraft, not 1.8 full release
