Gah, it's impossible to do the height mod without editing world, the way minecraft is set up, I never get a "tick" to change the height variables before generation starts, well, I'll look into making a patcher then.
EDIT: Expect every mod except Better Caves updated within the next two days, Better Caves will update when MCP comes out.

Is this for generating new maps or will it also affect new terrain generation in existing worlds? Annoying they changed it to generate that way, you'd think world height would be the first thing to check when generation occurs.

This mod switches notch's sin and cos methods in MathHelper with Math's sin and cos, it seems to increase FPS by 33%, and doesn't decrease the quality of the game at all.
PLEASE NOTE: This will only increase FPS if CPU is what's limiting minecraft. It will also increase performance when there are many entities in the world.
Download
Install is simple, delete META-INF and put this in the jar.

"Download not work" does not give me much information, perhaps tell me how it failed?
EDIT: Ahh, I see, wasn't like that when I posted it... odd
A question about your sin/cos mod: do you know why Notch decided to use less efficient code for the operations and not even use Java.Math? Was he just using outdated Java.Math code or...?Just curious, because your mod looks innovative and curious about some of Notch's programming.

I'm a decent Java programmer learning Python, and I'm skilled with server administration, WorldEdit, redstone circuitry, etc. Feel free to show me mod ideas, I'm thinking about starting to make mods, and I'd be happy to give insight as to how a mod could be implemented in Minecraft.

Me and quite a few other guys in IRC have wondered this ourselves, in fact, Jeb does not use MathHelper for sin/cos. Notch's ways are odd sometimes, but as long as it all comes together into a nice game, and is workable, I don't mind it.
I've found a possible way to do the height mod without editing world, but it will require more investigation, and I think you guys would rather just have the mod, and the compatibility patch later, so that investigation is going to be put off until all of my mods are updated.
Height mod, caves ores fix, and layer6grass updated for the client, I'm very sorry, but the server version will be held off until tomorrow, I don't have time tonight, and most of my time modding today was spent looking for how to change height without changing world, which didn't make it into this version.
EDIT: I decided to do the server version, and did it in record time :biggrin.gif: about 15 minutes.
Well, server loads fine, using 256 height with my world from 1.9pre5 that was using the 256 height mod back then. Works alright client side for maybe 10-15 minutes before Minecraft freezes and blackscreens on me. Is there any way I can give you additional data on this?
Loving the hight mod, only tryed the ssp version for now, will update server later. one question, is there a way to make it so on the 256 map the sea level is the default of 64 or what ever it was?
we like to build high on our server so that would be ideal.
1. How do i and/or will you find, a way to make previous (Before height mod install) saves compatible with the height mod?
2. I have been trying to get some flat land (not completely flat map) by making several worlds exploring the map in it, but it seems i can't find anything. So i saw (understood it like this at least) that i could set the sea level back to 64. Am i misunderstanding this and in that case, how can i make it happend? If im not, how do i actually do it right?
3. Can you consider altering the height mod to be biome specific? (something like the old PhoenixTerrainMod? there should be some old data from the mod you could use on this page. )
Besides that, adding a config to the mod for easier customization would be much appreciated.
Installed the height mod without any trouble so thats great :smile.gif:, for people having troubles installing it, remember to delete META-INF folder.
EDIT: Sorry didnt see the "without changing world" part cause it was crossed out :tongue.gif:, but is there a way to do that myself, or do you plan to update that for this version of minecraft?
EDIT 2: Aside from that, maybe it could be a good idea to add a guide on how to allocate more ram to Minecraft ? (Had to do that because it continually crashed.) I do remember how to do it on mac, but i forgot how to do it on windows. So for mac: Right-click minecraft.app (the launcher) in finder, click "Show Package Contents", open Contents, open Info.plist with TextEdit, find <string>-Xms512M -Xmx1024</string> and change it to:
1gb to 1.5gb: <string>-Xms1024M -Xmx1536M</string>
1.5gb to 2gb: <string>-Xms1536M -Xmx2048M</string>
2gb to 2.5gb: <string>-Xms2048M -Xmx2560M</string>
And so on. (Multiply 1024 by 1 and add 1 for each gb)
1. Use the GUI version, it is compatible
2. I don't get what you're saying.
3. That's going to be in my "BiomeTerrain" mod.
EDIT1: It is updated to 1.0.0
EDIT2: I'll add a way to do it cross-platform

I've had alot of framerate issues with the height mod, both 256 and 512. It takes a good 2 hours to even create a world, and once its made it only loads the world for a few seconds before freezing up on me. My rig is pretty good actually so I doubt it's a hardware issue. Am I doing something wrong? I've copied the .class filed into the .jar file and deleted the META-INF thing. I really wanna use this height mod for my creations, any help would be great.
edit: just tried a 64 world, same thing. hm, clearly I'v done something wrong
Odd, even my three-year-old laptop can run 256 with little FPS drop. I don't see anything you could do wrong really.

It's working on my computer, I just downloaded it to check.

I found it strangely performed better just running the exe and not the batch file.

Does that mean it works now? If not, get http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/533027-tool-minecrafterror/ and tell what the error is.
Thank you!
Not working for me.
Too bad.
