I have been hearing around about a platinum dungeon, can this be confirmed?
Ok, I'm sorry if this has been posted before, I don't have time to read the last few pages. But I'm guessing 1.8 is going to screw up this mod. Mostly, the hunger bar, the regeneration rate is way too slow for the boss battles, increasing their difficulty to the extreme. I have yet to see any let's plays of the aether where they /haven't/ needed to spam healing items to survive, unless the ambrosium remains unaffected and still heals directly, I'm wondering if the whole mod might need to be tweaked.
This mod is popular, sure. New item slots, mobs, blocks, dungeons, a new dimension. I get it.
So I'll say it. This mod is ****ing lazy. I don't get what kind of simple-minded twit installed this and decided it was 'amazing' or considered it remotely good enough to be a part of official Minecraft. Take away the mobs and dungeons and you have a texture pack and a custom terrain generator. Woot.
Holystone tools, are you ****ing kidding me? Gravitite? Hey, here's a version for you, we call them stone and iron on the surface. A purple texture is only good enough to fool the brain-dead. I wrote a synopsis for you:
Enjoy these fun features! Texture-swapped blocks, texture-swapped tools, texture-swaped mobs with wings! In the Aether we use Aether wood to make Aether tools and Aether coal in our Aether furnaces to make Aether pendants for our Aether chests.
I get it, I'm in the ****ing Aether.
"Hey man, you don't get it. It's like Minecraft but if you fall off you die."
No, it's like the creators thought regular Minecraft wasn't good enough so they removed the floor and changed the texture pack. Falling off is more of an inconvenience than anything, kinda driving home the nail they think the surface is inferior and exists only as a barrier to get to a better dimension. That's the reason they added beds to the Aether right? Now you don't even have to leave. I mean, after all, the Aether has cows too, but these ones have wings!
Seriously, I know all the biggest supporters of this mod never thought to analyze what they were looking at but the best parts of this mod don't need another dimension to exist, it only justifies the useless, redundant, palette-and-texture swapped pastel additions and lack of bedrock.
You're welcome.
I have 3 things to say:
So you take away pretty much the entire mod and you have a terrain generator? You could say that about every mod.
Also, you clearly haven't used the tools. You must be completely retarded to not have noticed the Skyroot's double drops. If that isn't an original tool, then define one that is and go have fun with your crappy tool tier that's the opposite of gold.
Also, if the entire Aether is a palette swap, then what's the blue cloud a palette swap of? The freezer? The icestone? The gravitite? The weapons?
Also, I bet that all you did was hop into the Aether, look around for 5 seconds, then used TMI to look at the items added for 2 seconds. Then you went on to the forums and posted that.

Agreed. Did you even bother to look in any of the TOTALLY ORIGINAL dungeons to see the TOTALLY ORIGINAL bosses to get TOTALLY ORIGINAL special dungeon items? Or actually experiment with any of the plenty of new blocks like the freezer?
Fixed it for ya. He'll just say that the enchanter is a ripoff of the furnace.

:tongue.gif: anyone wanna help me with a problem? :tongue.gif: for some reson even if i install the mod perfectly it refuses to work :tongue.gif: i gettin nothin but blackscreen to answer your first 2 questions yes i delete meta-inf file and yes i have a completly clear version of 1.7.3
So everybody is probably asking this but do you guys have a idea when the ather will work in 1.8.1 or are you wating for a more stable 1.8? i just ask because ive been looking every where for an answer and i cant find one. I would like to play this mod as i have never actualy played a mod and this one looks like one of the best. thanks for any help with this question.

I would advise some patience. MCP was just recently released (today), which many mods rely on. Then, there needs to be food to eat in the Aethor, or you'll starve or be forced to go back and forth to eat. Then, there is the whole experience point drop stuff, which needs to be incorporated for dungeon bosses, etc. Lot's to think about, design, and code.

As I said in a previous post, I'm thinking it might be a while, as the aether is not a simple mod, also the new hunger mechanic of 1.8 in my opinion breaks the bosses, as there's almost no possible way to win without healing items, well, unless you're like the elite of the elite, I mean I've seen a lot of let's plays, and I've never seen one where they /didn't/ need to heal mid-battle, even on the bronze dungeon. So either they'll need to keep the abrosium's instant healing abilities, or make the bosses not so hard to kill. Basically they'll need to rebalance the mechanics of it otherwise people will become frustrated. The bosses were designed to counter people who were used to gulping down healing items and still making it hard, now that healing items are basically eliminated, for all those people who say "Oh it adds a new depth of combat." and yet it breaks mods like this that add much tougher enemies, as they go from extremely hard, to near impossible.
It actually makes sense to me to keep the ambrosium's instant-healing, as in my mind they were never food, but instead like magical /healing/ items. They just happened to act one in the same. As let's face it, who would eat shards of crystal? That'd be more likely to /cause/ damage than restore it.

So I'll say it. I can't believe this isn't in minecraft! I'm calling up Notch and troll him to death until he supports this mod! OMG! RAWR! I LOVE THE AETHER!!!
Holystone tools, are you ****ing AWESOME! Gravitite! AWESOME! It's like, we FINALLY GET NEW FREAKING ORE TO MINE! ABOUT FREAKING TIME! How about those birds... oh wait... I really didn't bother playing the mod much... I was just wigging over how AWESOME this place was and my computer crashed over the AWESOME! This mod is SO awesome I wrote a synopsis for you:
Enjoy these fun features, 3 new dungeons all with a unique play style experiance, Ride a Mowa through the game... and if that isn't your thing the Airship mod works great here! Different trees some of which actually drop golden freaking apples, (<- about freaking time), Tools that give you bonuses, (how many mods have that? Really! I can't think of many), new mobs all of which have new attack styles, new weapons, armor, FREAKING CAPES, and enchanted items, I'm just blowing my AWESOME mind here!
I'm in the ****ing Aether!!! YAY!!!!
"It's a whole new expansion to Minecraft, if you fall off, you spawn outside the portal, so YOU DONT DIE!" (Durp)
Its not like I never played this mod, I just thought it was really cool and really buckled down and played the darn thing THEN made my opinion of the Aether... Yeah... Exactly like that, I'm not a 40 year old shacking up with his parents or anything like that. Not me, nope, I take great care in making sure I do research.
For those who play this mod and those who support it, play on and keep posting, this mod needs all the support it can get!
You're welcome.
Nope, your welcome. lol
I'd like to take this moment to say, I am pure unfiltered evil, look at me in awe for this is what I do when I get bored.

Most likely you'll look at another post quoting this, and brush it off but I have a few things to ask/comment on.
By your reasoning, what's the use of the Nether? It's a dimension that was added by notch, but doesn't do anything... This mod adds a dimension with its own set of tools, dungeons, bosses and mobs. It adds a goal to the game, not just oh look at that, if I strike it with flint and steel it doesn't go out. Or hey, that makes me go slower. Not saying it's not great, because I'm reading about Java and the complexities of the game as a whole take my breath away.
The tools, items and world are all unique. The skyroot tools give you two of what you've just mined. The holystone tools have a chance to drop ambrosium(a serious help if you don't have any in your inventory). The Zanite tools, and armor allow you to mine faster. The Gravitite armor allows you to jump higher, when you have the whole set(may not require the whole set but you get the point). Pretty much what I'm saying is it does more than just re-texture things, and add new tools, quite a bit more to it than that.
You also never commented on the tools that you find in the dungeons... which are guarded by bosses. They add completely new tools, that do things that aren't specified to keep the mystery. The mod as a whole is an exciting, and amazing adition to an already amazing tool and when it's updated I'll definitely keep playing it. If it wasn't special, or if it was just a copy of the over world why would there be so many people saying this?
I commend the Aether team, and hope they continue to update with newer and better features. Keep up the amazing work, guys.

The Nether is an alternate dimension with little or no purpose beyond three unique blocks and that it is ... "harder" than the surface. Ghasts are the only real danger there, pigmen will leave you alone. It is supplementary, just another 'thing' in Minecraft like smelting clay into bricks or even glass. So yes, a novelty. But Notch has often spoke of wanting to improve the Nether, and until then its not really a good comparison. If the Nether had everything the surface had but with special properties then that would be closer to Aether (and in poor design).
Here's my perception: Aether promises adventure. But why go adventuring? Like building a house or mining for diamonds its only real value is assigned by the player. Some content in dirt doors at night or with stone tools. Aether delivers, albiet all at once. There are 3 kinds of dungeons though the same as other of the same color. And the Aether exists only to support these dungeons and Moa. Once visited, a dungeon only exists to revisit for loot; and minus the dungeons, Moas are the only unique thing left in the Aether. Therein lies my largest issue.
Unique characteristics seperate items, but literally EVERYTHING in the Aether has a special property, effectively making EVERYTHING mundane. All animals fly/nearly all can be ridden. Every tool, block and item has some 'interesting' property, stripping anything of being unique. You may not agree, but the only reason skyroot is 'special' is because unlike wood it has a special property. If the surface didn't exist, it wouldn't really seem special at all would it? Now, if enemies who could only be defeated by, or blocks (take obsidian for example) requiring these 'elite' tools existed, that might be different. Then the purpose for questing would become getting items needed to overcome another challenge. Which really, is the basis of most video games. In Minecraft you punch trees to get wood, build a pickaxe, get stone, etc... each item is built on the back of those that came before it. That isn't so in Aether.
If I had to pick out a really unique mod, I would say MAtmos. It doesn't change the game in any way but manages to have a irreplaceable effect on the atmosphere. For me, thats way cooler than double loot.

For reference I run MAtmos and RedPower for mods.
I had a look at this "MAtmos" mod.
It just rendered everything you said kinda.... stupid. It seems, like you're the sort that cares more about graphics and style (or sound in this case) than gameplay... and GAMEPLAY is what the Aether is about. The point of the aether, as should be almost painfully obvious, is to give the player a new world to explore, with new stuff to do and find.
Had you actually tried it yourself, you would know that the vast majority of the stuff in this mod is EXTREMELY new. Oh, the TOOLSETS are a bit similar to the normal ones.... albeit with some special properties (like the antigrav on the Gravitite tools)... but beyond that... erm... no. Were parachutes ever in the original? No. How about them bouncy blue cloud blocks that have all sorts of wacky potential? Hmm... no. Flying mounts? Um... no. Dungeon bosses? Pretty sure no. I could go on.... and on.... and on. Yeah. Nothing "unique" here!
And no, "but it makes it mundane" is not an arguement. VANILLA Minecraft has a similar design. Most items and blocks DO something in vanilla Minecraft. Different levels of picks mine different blocks. Redstone can be used to make crazy stuff. Tracks allow you to run minecarts. Even something like simple dirt: Grass grows on it! Stuff in Minecraft DOES things, and has properties. Basically, what you just said up above, is "The Aether is fulla items and blocks that DO things and have PROPERTIES, so it's all stupid!". Yeah. Not the most intelligent thing I've heard all day. ....or remotely intelligent whatsoever.
Also, you'd said:
Now, if enemies who could only be defeated by, or blocks (take obsidian for example) requiring these 'elite' tools existed, that might be different. Then the purpose for questing would become getting items needed to overcome another challenge. Which really, is the basis of most video games. In Minecraft you punch trees to get wood, build a pickaxe, get stone, etc... each item is built on the back of those that came before it. That isn't so in Aether.
Er.... no. In vanilla Minecraft, there is exactly ONE block that absolutely requires you to have an "elite" item, in this case the diamond pick, in order to mine. And that is, indeed, the obsidian. ....and that's it. There is not a single other block in the game where you HAVE to have such a powerful tool in order to get it.
And even then, that condition of obsidian isnt QUITE accurate. If you really wanted obsidian, say, to make a gate, but didnt want to bother going to look for diamond, you merely need exactly 3 iron... not even a remote challenge to get. Make ONE bucket, and pow. You can use it to move lava and create obsidian with water.
So.... yeah. The same concepts are really being used in both. That you cannot see this stupefies me. I'm so flabbergasted I'm not even sure if I spelled "stupefies" correctly.
As for the Nether....
It had a purpose from day one. Notch explained this purpose multiple times during it's development: It is there for fast travel. That's what it exists for. And yeah, I know, "Oh but you can use minecart tracks in the overworld, SO THERE". Uh huh. That's great. Guess what goes even faster? Minecart tracks IN THE NETHER. Travel vast distances in the overworld VERY quickly through the use of the Nether. That's ALWAYS been the point. ALso, the Nether is notoriously NOT FINISHED YET. That should also be obvious.
And 1.9 will indeed be adding piles of new blocks to it. Which probably DO THINGS and have PROPERTIES, oh noes! How that will corrupt the game, oh yes. Corrupt it indeed!
Good grief.
Really? If you dont like the Aether mod? That's great. That's super. Everyone has their own opinions, and something like this isnt going to please EVERYONE.
But that's no reason to hang out on the topic for it BOTHERING everyone who DOES like it.
I can't wait for this to be updated. It's definitely going to be one of the first mods I download. :smile.gif:
Same here! I've been scouting the forums for some good stuff, and aside from the myriad of awesome texture packs, OptiFine and Risugami's mods, this is the other one I'm going to add to the collection just as soon as it is 1.8.1 compatible.
Ok, I'm sorry if this has been posted before, I don't have time to read the last few pages. But I'm guessing 1.8 is going to screw up this mod.
