This mod adds carpets to MineCraft. It works for Beta 1.5_01 currently.
You can find the original topic (by Daafie, he came up with the idea) by clicking HERE.
A small mod called Wool to Dye is also available, click here for more about that.
It works well with my mod.
Here's a video showing off both of the mods and their recipes.
Carpets For Beta 1.5_01
This mod adds 16 blocks and 16 items. The blocks use ids 221-236. The items use ids 240-255.The 16 blocks are wool in the form of carpets, with altered textures to make them look better. The 16 items are textiles that are used with the sewing machine to make carpets. You can see all of the textiles and carpets in action above. This mod was originally going to come with a sewing machine, but I had to remove that due to dumb errors that seemed to be unfixable.
Here's a list of all of blocks and items.
Blocks:
White Carpet, Black Carpet, Blue Carpet, Brown Carpet, Gray Carpet, Orange Carpet, Pink Carpet, Purple Carpet, Red Carpet, Yellow Carpet, Cyan Carpet, Dark Green Carpet, Light Blue Carpet, Light Gray Carpet, Light Green Carpet, and Magenta Carpet.
Items:
White Textile, Black Textile, Blue Textile, Brown Textile, Gray Textile, Orange Textile, Pink Textile, Purple Textile, Red Textile, Yellow Textile, Cyan Textile, Dark Green Textile, Light Blue Textile, Light Gray Textile, Light Green Textile, and Magenta Textile.
If you would like to know all of the recipes, look at the video above.
Wool 2 Dye For Beta 1.5_01
As the title suggests, this mod makes it so you can place a turn any wool block into the dye that would or could be used to make it. For example, brown wool turns into brown dye, and blue wool turns into blue dye. It is great for my carpets mod, and it also is useful for making cookies.
If you would like to see this mod in action, see the video at the top of the post.
This mod requires ModLoader and only adds 16 recipes. For installation, click here.
Oh yeah, time for shout outs. First goes to Daafie for coming up with the idea and making a topic on it. Next one goes to Ayaneko, for making the original textile texture, which I dumbed down (because it was much better) to make it easier for a noob like me to make textures. And the third shout out goes to anyone who helped me at all on the #mcp-modding IRC.
Installing the mod
First of all, BACK UP EVERYTHING. For Windows 7 (and Vista?) --
Step 1. Download the most recent version of ModLoader and my mod.
Step 2. Click on Start.
Step 3. Type '%appdata%' in the search bar and hit enter.
Step 4. Open the folder called '.minecraft'.
Step 5. Open the folder called 'bin'.
Step 6. Right-click on the file called 'minecraft.jar' and hover your mouse over 'Open with'. Note that you are not supposed to DOUBLE-CLICK on 'minecraft.jar'.
Step 7. Select winRAR to open up it up.
Step 8. Delete the folder called 'meta-inf'. (VERY IMPORTANT)
Step 9. Open the ModLoader file you download and my mod files that you downloaded.
Step 10. Drag all of the files into 'minecraft.jar'. (Include the folders)
Step 11. Close and play MineCraft with mods.
For Windows XP --
Step 1. Download the most recent version of ModLoader and my mod.
Step 2. Click on Start and then click on 'run'.
Step 3. In 'run', type in cmd or command and hit enter.
Step 4. Once the black window pops up, type in '%appdata%' and hit enter.
Step 5. A folder with should pop up. Inside the folder should be a folder called '.minecraft'. Open the folder.
Step 6. Now open the folder called 'bin'.
Step 7. Right-click on the file called 'minecraft.jar' and hover your mouse over 'Open with'. Note that you are not supposed to DOUBLE-CLICK on 'minecraft.jar'.
Step 8. Select winRAR to open up it up.
Step 9. Delete the folder called 'meta-inf'. (VERY IMPORTANT)
Step 10. Open the ModLoader file you download and my mod files that you downloaded.
Step 11. Drag all of the files into 'minecraft.jar'. (Include the folders)
Step 12. Close and play MineCraft with mods.
For Mac OS X (Taken from TooManyItems forum post, credits to Marglyph) --
1. Open Finder and go to your home directory. Then go to Library -> Application Support -> minecraft -> bin. You should now be in the "bin" folder with various ".jar" files in it including minecraft.jar.
2. Rename minecraft.jar to minecraft.jar.zip. You keep the .jar and add .zip to the end. There may be a dialog that asks if you're sure, and you need to click "use .zip."
3. Double-click minecraft.jar.zip to unzip it. This will make a folder called minecraft.jar, which will contain lots of .class files and some other things.
4. Inside the minecraft.jar folder, find META-INF and delete it.
5. Download the TooManyItems zip file and unzip it on your desktop or elsewhere.
6. Move all of the files ending in .class that come with TooManyItems into your minecraft.jar folder. Click yes to replace an existing game class.
7. Done! Because the folder is named minecraft.jar the game will use it as-is, and you do not need to re-zip it. Of course you can add other mods to it as well. To go back to an unmodded Minecraft, delete the folder named minecraft.jar and unzip minecraft.jar.zip again for a fresh copy (remember to delete META-INF again if you are installing more mods).
amazing. just amazing. ive been waiting for this to appear.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
This is very nice but my problem with it is it uses vanilla textures. I use a compilation of GeruDoku assets and I can't use this since it doesn't match.
Is there any chance you can make a version of this mod that reads the terrain.png for the wool textures instead of having to include them in the mod?

I suggest the modder should use a similar code or sumthing to ChocolatelySyrup's Stained Glass that manages to use the texture pack design and still change the color.
Suggestions:
Remove the textiles (to save terrain sprites and stuff)
Make the carpets use the textures already in the games instead of adding more (Also to save terrain sprites and stuff)
Make the mod use sub-ids so it wont take up to many ids

1. Removing the textiles - There are over 130 available sprites. And over 32000 item ids.
2. Make the carpets use the textures already in the games instead of adding more - Then there would be no point in having carpets, you could just use wool floors.
3. Make the mod use sub-ids so it wont take up to many ids - Easier said than done. I have tried and failed to do this several times.

Winning.
Kidding, but still, great work. The suggestion should stay up, of course.
You did this exactly as most people would imagine it.
Except:
Carpets=happy.
Textiles? = meh
I see that the item id isn't too much a problem, but why add the extra item. It justs feels... useless.
Then again, slime and books are the same way, but there isn't anything good with that either.
The world of components bothers me, and Notch.
IF you keep them, is it possible you dream up a second use, like window curtains? (similar to a door, placed on glass)
Great mod! Now i don't have to have 2 floors on my second story just to have carpets! Thanks for this. Curtains in the future would be super EPIC WIN too!

I finally had time to install the whole thing, and I remembered a question I wanted to ask you:
Why textiles?
Well, it didn't seem right to just craft carpets from wool. I don't exactly remember where the idea came from. Now that I have them, I could make more blocks with them.

Cool mod, but might i suggest metadata so that you don't have to use 16 blockIds, only one? just copy from the existing wool class.
Easier said than done, my friend. I've tried several times, but it never worked.
