I'm beginning to wonder if the growing problem with cubic chunks for minecraft 1.0 is with the fact that most people are probably using MCNostalgia, the tool to downgrade you minecraft to a previous version. And if that is correct, I would assume that MCNostalgia might not change a specific class that Cubic Chunks utilizes. Then that could be potentially causing the problem that some people are experiencing.
Now, I believed that I had an original 1.0 minecraft jar. But then again, it could very well be a jar that I downgraded with MCNostalgia and that I just forgot about because it was so long ago. But so, if this assumption is to be correct, only people with "original" 1.0 minecraft jars can use cubic chunks without the "saving chunks" issue, because the MCNostalgia fails to alter all the specific classes associated with 1.0.
If that is the case, then I would assume that the creator of MCNostalgia doesn't have it update a specific class that 1.0 doesn't necessarily need in order to function properly.
Though, this is all if and only if all the people who are experiencing the problem have minecraft jars which were downgraded, jars that are not originally 1.0.

Pretty sure MCNostalgia doesn't work like that. If he's still using diff, that looks at the entire binary data file of the jar and not the individual class files within it. It would not be possible to "not change a specific class".
Just wanna say thank you for all your hard work. I'd also like to say that I'm looking forward to seeing 4096BlockIDs updated. Not going to bug you for it, or ask when it's going to be done. I'm just letting you know I'm eagerly anticipating it. :smile.gif:
Here's diamonds: Enjoy them, and keep up the great work! :biggrin.gif:
Alright. Here is a idea of mine that will never see the light of day.
When you load a world with cubic chunks there is another mod that also generates ore veins.
The deeper you go, The rarer the ore is and the bigger the veins get.
Mods can be built with support for cubic chunks to handle the ore generation, So rare ores in this mod,
Can only be found below the -300 mark, Among the random speckles of bedrock and obsidian and lakes of lava
Basically a kind of "addon" for Cubic Chunks to make mining deep more of a challange and more exciting.
@lilmessi07: You do have a good point that I forgot to mention 4096_IDs. It takes 1-3 hours to update: much shorter than CC, but much longer than the minor mods. Does anyone know when Minecraft will update next? If it is within a week, I'm not going to bother updating 4096_IDs, but I might ought to update it otherwise...
@EternalDensity: "Can I haz an update" every other post gets really annoying, but once a week, on a mod I forgot to mention, isn't that bad.
@Malivil: Ok.
@PsychoSupreme: Thank you.
@Libraryaddict: It's a good idea, and it is quite possible to do exactly this. In fact, I deliberately put hooks in CC so that people could do things like this...
Not sure but there seems to be a lot of talk about it being soon. I don't expect any updates until the end of February, but I'm just going on my hunch.

It's hard to judge considering we haven't seen how Jeb updates normally (most of his time as design lead has been during a holiday season), so nobody can say for sure. It'll most likely be a month or more though, given how he seems to be content to release weakly snapshots. Again, nothing for sure but if it'll only cost you a few hours I'd definitely say that it's worth it. :smile.gif:

Nobody knows. We can speculate, but it's just best guesses. It could be in 2 days; it could be in 2 months for all anyone knows. Some people are getting the impression that 1.2 is imminent due to the pre-release, but they seem to forget how many 1.1 pre-releases we had, and how many 1.0 pre-releases we had. Besides, Jeb said a while back that they were going to be doing weekly pre-releases. These are not betas as in "Hey guys, I think we're just about done. Wanna check it out first to be sure?" They're just "Well it's Friday (or whatever day), here's where we're at today." The idea being PR/marketing reasons to generate hype, and for technical reasons to get free QA testing and bug reports. I certainly hope you choose to update it since I won't be able to install all of my 1.1 mods without it.
On a side note, I don't know if your download statistics show differently, but I'm a bit surprised that 4096 isn't the first one you choose to update. I mean many people view 4096 as much as a prerequisite for them as getting ModLoader and Forge installed--it is needed to enable them to install the rest of their mods.

I see! And yeah, I reevaluated my theory and realized that there is no logical way that I could be right. Thanks for the correction though! I'd hate for a theory like mine to get spearheaded, only to annoy Robinton and others.
Dropbox does not collect download counts. However, I've modified many of the links on the front page to give me download data. The old links will still work, but for my info, please use the new links when you can.
I was in the middle of a huge project when I discovered that my world (mostly snowy, lots of mountains and really high ground) was too close to the clouds. I needed about forty blocks higher than vanilla MC would let me build. Then I went hunting the forum and found Cubic Chunks. It took me several tries (about a couple days' worth of hunting forums and going back and forth between threads), but I finally got it working (I'm still extremely new to modding and have trouble following anything more than a basic readme, lol). I am extremely excited. I've had to put my project on hold for several days now because of height issues, but that will no longer be a problem. As soon as I got it working, I built a noob tower out of gravel just to test out CC. I can't wait to continue my project and try out some of Robinton's other mods! Thank you so much, Robinton! And thanks to MineCrak for the exceptional how-to on downloading CC and all required materials. That was a lifesaver. :biggrin.gif:

My friends and I simply cannot wait to be able to load up something like Cubic Chunks on our server and still be able to load bukkit plugins like the home teleporter and such. Seems we will have to wait for Spout to be able to do something like that, though.
Great work on all these mods. Boggles my mind that some of you are willing to put forth so much of your own time and effort. The minecraft community is really something special.

I agree completely! Once one tastes the magic 4096BlockIDs can do, one can hardly play without it.

Hey Noobs: When you have to post an error log please use the spoiler tag like this:
with all the tecnic mods you easly use up all the block id's :/
You bring up a good point. Many players are trying to copy illegal mod packs like the Technic pack without screwing the modders...4096IDs makes it doable. A good thing for modders I'd say.

Amen brother! :biggrin.gif:
Don't get me wrong, Cubic Chunks is an awesome mod. The point is, though, is that 4096BlockIDs can quickly become one of those "must have" mods for people who really love using a variety of mods all at once. There are a lot of us, and we're all waiting with bated breath for the day when we can have that functionality back.

I hadn't even considered this. It's true, though. By and large I think we as players would much rather use the originals in concert than to use a 'pack' that takes control and profit from the awesome folks who develop this stuff.
So yea, 4096BlockIDs is an awesome thing for the players and the modding community alike!!!! :biggrin.gif: Need I say more?
Well, i would like to see that in Vanilla MC because i only play SSP for testing Stuff out (so only helpfull Mods here for this like TMI, MC Console etc.).
I can't find it but i could swear notch or jeb said something like they want to add cubic chunks maybe sometimes but they have to rewrite the whole Map Generation for this which would be to much at this Point.
I already dream about high Mountains with snowy tops, Forests which are really Forests and not some Hobbitshrubs and fu***ing deep Undergrounds with big fu***ing Caves where i can build my own type of Underdark (oh and i want glowing Mushrooms and Mushroom Wood for Sticks and Bowls and the other Overworld Stuff like that btw, Jeb?).
And now excuse me Guys because i need to clean my Pants. :dry.gif:
Well dammit, now I want to recreate Mordor and all that in Minecraft, with Cubic Chunks. (Whoah! Deja-vu)
And btw: It's always good to hear another vote for Glowing Mushrooms! One of the regulars here, marcopolo1613, heard my request and made a glowing mushroom mod a while back (mc b1.7.3). I need to check and see if it's been updated.

As far as I've seen, it's like "[1.1.0/1.0.0]" but some people assume that means you have both.

Read this page.
Have you read it? Read this page first, then read the rest of my post.
You've read it now, right?
Good.
I have nothing to say now, because everything I wish to say about this post has been said on this page.
Thanks everyone for you various estimates.
EDIT:
I've been working through Kurast, and I found and fixed a nasty vanilla-saved-chunk-load bug.
Here is the client fix.
Here is the server fix.

My question is how many mods do you people play with? I play mostly multi and the small bit of single player I play I use very few mods.
Usually over 70, but I don't use all of every mod. Some stuff is too uber or something so I just ignore it.
