This is a mod that lets you create Redstone Chests. These chests have the same material properties and placement rules as normal chests, but their storage is linked to all other Redstone Chests.
It is using Block ID 166 (0xA6). However, it is possible to set the mod's BlockID in the RedstoneChestMod.properties file, which is located in a settings folder inside your minecraft folder. If there is no file/folder, run Minecraft once and then close it to generate them.
How do I install the mod?
You must have ModLoader (for 1.5_01) installed first. Once you do, simply extract the ZIP file into your minecraft.jar.
FAQ: Q: What do you mean by the storage is 'linked?'
A: All of the Redstone Chests share the same storage space (27 slots for a single chest, 54 for a large chest). Items placed within a Redstone Chest are retrievable from any other Redstone Chest in the same world.
Q: Sounds interesting, so what might I use this for?
A: Some good examples of using Redstone Chests would be storing survival gear (you know, for when you die in lava and respawn naked), transporting goods mined in caverns far far away back home, or simply to keep often-used items (such as fuel) near crafting tables/furnaces and the like.
Q: Can they be placed together to form a large Redstone Chest?
A: Yes, they can be placed just like normal chests and will turn into a large chest and offer double the storage space. However, keep in mind that the lower 27 slots are not accessible by single Redstone Chests, only by other large Redstone Chests.
Q: What happens if I place just one Redstone Chest?
A: It will be functionally equivalent to a normal chest until you place another Redstone Chest down.
Q: Will all the items come out if I destroy the Redstone Chest?
A: No, they will remain in their 'dimensional space' in the Minecraft universe somewhere. They are still stored there and accessible by other Redstone Chests.
Q: What happens if I destroy a Redstone Chest then?
A: You simply get the Redstone Chest back as you would any other block.
Q: What happens if I destroy the last Redstone Chest in my world?
A: You will get the Redstone Chest back like normal and all your items remain stored in their 'dimensional space' somewhere in the Minecraft universe. If you place a Redstone Chest back down you can access all of your items again.
Q: Can I transfer items between save games using these Redstone Chests?
A: No, the Redstone Chests keep a separate storage space for each world (save game).
Q: If I close the game will the items still be there when I return?
A: Of course!
Q: Are they flammable?
A: No, just like normal chests they are non-flammable.
Q: Can I turn a Redstone Chest back into a normal chest or get my redstone ore back?
A: No, once you build a Redstone Chest it is forever a Redstone Chest, sorry!
Q: Where are the items stored in the saves folder?
A: A 'redstoneChest.dat' file is created in the world's save folder (along with all the other files Minecraft creates).
Q: Can I skin the Redstone Chest graphics?
A: Yes, all the textures are located in the RedstoneChest folder in the ZIP file (and in your minecraft.jar as well).
Q: Is it SMP compatible?
A: Theoretically it should be, however I have not tested it yet.
Q: I changed the BlockID, what happened to my chests?
A: If you change the BlockID, all your previous chests will be lost (however, the items inside are still saved). You will have to replace them in-game. To avoid this, remove them from your world prior to changing the BlockID. You can change the BlockID back (default is 166) and pick them up if you have already 'lost' them. Your items inside are always safe, so no worries!

This is my first Minecraft mod of many, so stay tuned!
EDIT : Also, it looks like there might be some friction with the Pixeludi textures, as the planks + chests in that pack are red. I will compare them. You could always put an aerial/mast graphic on the lid!
Sweet, tell me if you notice any bugs. I tested it as much as I could but I admit I'm somewhat 'new' to Minecraft, especially the mod community.
I'm not familiar with many texture packs so let me know if there's any potential conflicts. I plan on giving the redstone chests a little icon or some kind of 'engraving' detail soon.
Thanks guys! Glad to know there aren't any annoying bugs, I tried to test every use case beforehand.
My favorite part of Minecraft is just going from cavern to cavern and exploring all of it while mining ores. However, even though I often build mining camps to store the important stuff but I often die and all my treasures are stored at the nearest mining camp I deposited them to. Of course I'm usually way far away or landed in lava so I wanted a good way to store them and be able to retrieve them later from any of my mining camps. I also like storing a set of iron tools/armor near my bed but I often change beds when mining so it was expensive to keep a set at EVERY location. This mod solved my problems, so I thought I'd share!
Skullex, you are correct. You can only have a single storage space for the Redstone Chests, although you can combine two Redstone Chests together to make a large Redstone Chest for storing more items. However, all of them point to the same items (single chest is the upper inventory, large is upper + lower).
I'm still trying to think of a good way to have multiple sets without having to create multiple items using different ores or using dyes... or signs (ugh).
You guys are awesome, thanks for the review and banners! I was just thinking "Man, I gotta make a banner now..." Sweet!
I'll take a good look at it all once I finish fixing my car, kinda.. snipped some important wires to the computer.. :sad.gif:
R3dst0ne, the problem I had when making a different top image for the chest was that large chests would have the wrong orientation for the image (it was rotated 90* from the front).
I may use a couple other textures for the top and have them exclusive for the large chest tops (so you could center that engraving and also have it properly rotated).
I'm working on a few solutions to multiple redstone chest storage locations, I'll let you guys know. Kind of waiting for 1.5 to update it fully.

I believe the WildGrass mod uses the BlockID 166, so if you use that mod it would be wise to change the BlockID to something else between 0-255 (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_values#Block_IDs).
How do I make a Redstone Chest?
It takes 8 Redstone Dust in a cube formation along with a normal Chest on the inside.
What does it look like in-game?

Save The Slimes
:sad.gif: I still got black screen.
Must of been a conflicting mod, but whatever
Save The Slimes
use it if you want...
Here is my channel on youtube for you to look at my stuff
The wool stands for a dye, which defines chest ID
Same ID - Same storage
May need more work but it would be nice to have more than one different item base

It may be conflicting with another mod, but I have no clue what it could be...
