Minecraft is reaching new bounds. I may not be an indev player but even since alpha i never would have expected minecraft to have come so far. Notch himself told us that there was no possibility of there ever being cars and planes. Yet we proved we could. Just look at industrial craft and how far they have come. There are mods that will even make 256x256 possible but..... what was one of the worlds greatest creation. MEDICINE. I am a astounded that no one has made a medicine mod im gonna make one. This is my first mod so it will start out very simple but i have lots of plans for it. So over time this mod will grow.

But over all the one i think has caught my attenion the most is a *sickness bar*. It will be a bar that slowly goes up over time and doing certain things will make it rise faster. I have always wanted medicine in minecraft. I'm making a map in the nether in which your plane crashes and you have really low health. It would be cool to have syringes. Also for hospitals. Maybe you could use some cake properties for the first aid kit. You would place it in the same way, and for simplicity you could make it the same size/shape. And possibly you could make medical herbs spawn that you could collect and make into different things. These might regrow their leaves every couple of days. You might be able to contact Xie for his tomato/cotton plant programs for regrowing. Also, maybe you could make the medications not count as eating in Xie's hunger mod. At least for the stuff in syringes. (If you can't, just say they're nutritious :smile.gif: Some medicine might take multiple steps to make. These are the symbols for this ENTIRE medicines section of this post. And means sickness. A worse disease/later in the disease has more " " Also, if possible, a player will be burned from touching fire and will damage the player until cured. Also, getting hurt may yield an injury that requires advanced medical treatment. Maybe getting falling damage will break a leg, slowing you down by 75% or so.

Just add some extracts and put it in a syringe.
Mushroom Injection (Heals 6 Hearts, and has a 35% chance of healing 40 -45 . Else 20 ):

Simple burn medicine. If burns are implemented, these would reduce the damage done from these by 75%. You need more advanced medicine to treat burns. Also a good starting point for more advanced medicines. Now to get into more contemporary methods. Lets start with the Homeopathic Pills. You need your mushroom extractions, as well as some sugar and water:
Homeopathic Pills (Heals 3 Hearts, with a 50%-60% chance of reducing the sickness bar by 40 -50 , else 20 . Also you get the bucket back like with cake.):

Aloe (Heals 1.5 hearts. Gets rid of burns. Also provides 50% burn damage resistance for 3 minutes.)

Truth be told that is exactly what i plan on doing. im gonna make disease. It will be possible to get sick from eating raw food(fish & pork). Even make side effects from having too many drugs in a short period of time. I like the non-heart damage idea. Ill try to make a sickness bar. The higher it gets the more ill you become. You will than NEED medicine survive. It gets too high you get dizzy and slow down. The bar maxes out and you start getting hurt.

I have a little suggestion, I'm thinking as a disese, you could have the flu. But in Beta 1.5, there will be rain, so you it should only be caught when it's raining. I know it might be hard to code, but it will be a bit better.

I really like the idea so I will see what i can do but i have to wait for 1.5 to come out. Ill make it so if you are in the rain too long you could get sick. Ohh and when you mentioned the flu i got a cool idea... SWINE FLU . I will be something you could get from eating raw pig.

This mod will "grow" Into all what you said. But the problem is only time can truly tell. I have plans for all the things you said, but i would need help to learn to do those things(Which i am still trying to learn how to do complicated things like you mentioned).

My brain was fizzing with ideas whilst I was working today ( obviously a form of brain fever ) but I guess the thing that most interests me is establishing a level of advancement so the first scalpel may very well be a stick and a sharpened flint ( an arrows recipe without the feather ) . Wood bowls of fat and soap , herbal simples , bandages for binding wounds , poultices all are first stage developments . ( oh soap could be made with a bowl of fat , charcoal and water , maybe placed in a stone mold to "season" . ) Probably someone is saying Minecraft doesn't run like RL but we can take inspiration from RL to make MC more complex . Why I am keen about lower grade items is to try an find reasons to stay in the " stone age " for longer than is usually considered necessary . If a range of useful and easily created items can be crafted at an early stage of the game then we can ( should we want to ) slowly ascend to greater levels of technology at our own pace and not to take advantage of the more sophisticated recipes . Medicines can go through levels of refinement as the PC level of technology increases . So too would the items used to manufacture medicines . Crikey , I better stop there ! LOL ! Anyway, I get what you're saying and I agree. Industrialcraft makes good use of a scaling system, where you start building better and better machines as new things are available.

As for more complex ideas, you could make... First aid kit:

The first aid kit has durability like a tool normally has, and when used it will remove disease or heal hearts, depending which is more urgent (if you have 1/2 heart left, it will heal your hearts, otherwise it will remove disease).
Just some ideas so there is a growth, more valuable things to work towards.
Edit: The First Aid Kit could require more than one salve or something too, if you wanted. It's just a basic idea that needs refining. You could further add the first aid kit to another recipe:
= First Aid Kit, = Bandages, = Some other, higher-end medical thing (that's not listed yet)
Makes a first aid station. This is a block that you place and it has its own GUI (like a furnace or a crafting table). When you place it and right click on it, it opens a list of ailments (disease, hearts, broken leg, etc). You click the button you want, it cures that ailment, and it has X uses left (like it can be used 5 or 10 times before it stops working). So you can use it to refill all your hearts, or instantly repair a broken leg, or remove a specific disease.
This looks really exciting! I love the idea! Another illness you could get is an infection from taking damage from zombie/wolf/spider attacks, which maybe cuts your health bar down by 25% until you take antibiotics? XD
I'm bookmarking this and plan to add it to my game soon. =3

Time to make some actual medicines. Use your syringe and some extracts to improve your herbal concoctions into into treatments for actual sickness. First, boil some mushroom broth into a disgusting, pile of herbs, known as a mushroom concoction. Don't eat this. But you can turn this into an injection used for curing more sickness. Just add some extracts and put it in a syringe.
Mushroom Injection (Heals 6 Hearts, and has a 35% chance of healing 40 -45 . Else 20 ):

Simple burn medicine. If burns are implemented, these would reduce the damage done from these by 75%. You need more advanced medicine to treat burns. Also a good starting point for more advanced medicines. Now to get into more contemporary methods. Lets start with the Homeopathic Pills. You need your mushroom extractions, as well as some sugar and water:
Homeopathic Pills (Heals 3 Hearts, with a 50%-60% chance of reducing the sickness bar by 40 -50 , else 20 . Also you get the bucket back like with cake.):

Aloe (Heals 1.5 hearts. Gets rid of burns. Also provides 50% burn damage resistance for 3 minutes.)

Truth be told that is exactly what i plan on doing. im gonna make disease. It will be possible to get sick from eating raw food(fish & pork). Even make side effects from having too many drugs in a short period of time. I like the non-heart damage idea. Ill try to make a sickness bar. The higher it gets the more ill you become. You will than NEED medicine survive. It gets too high you get dizzy and slow down. The bar maxes out and you start getting hurt.

It will be hard but ill but it on the list of complicating things to do later on. So if you can wait it will get done.

This mod will "grow" Into all what you said. But the problem is only time can truly tell. I have plans for all the things you said, but i would need help to learn to do those things(Which i am still trying to learn how to do complicated things like you mentioned).

The first aid kit has durability like a tool normally has, and when used it will remove disease or heal hearts, depending which is more urgent (if you have 1/2 heart left, it will heal your hearts, otherwise it will remove disease).
Just some ideas so there is a growth, more valuable things to work towards.
Edit: The First Aid Kit could require more than one salve or something too, if you wanted. It's just a basic idea that needs refining. You could further add the first aid kit to another recipe:
= First Aid Kit, = Bandages, = Some other, higher-end medical thing (that's not listed yet)
Makes a first aid station. This is a block that you place and it has its own GUI (like a furnace or a crafting table). When you place it and right click on it, it opens a list of ailments (disease, hearts, broken leg, etc). You click the button you want, it cures that ailment, and it has X uses left (like it can be used 5 or 10 times before it stops working). So you can use it to refill all your hearts, or instantly repair a broken leg, or remove a specific disease.
I'm bookmarking this and plan to add it to my game soon. =3
BTW I think this is such a nice, unique idea, I'm sure the veteran modders here would be glad to give you some hints!
