Problem of game crashing with BetterBlocks is elusive. It appears only when using launcher, and likely caused by Java itself. I use Java 6/24.x64, and, due to... complications with installing, 6/18.x32.
Fixes a ton of bugs and adds functional features. It's like the patch I've always wanted.
---
One suggestion for your fixBlockHardness feature: Could you add an option to normalise the hardness of Redstone Ore?
It takes 4.5 seconds to mine Redstone Ore with a Diamond Pick while every other ore only takes 0.6 seconds. I've been avoiding mining it just for this reason - it feels more like a chore than an accomplishment.

Staying with the x86 version of java is always a good idea. The x64 version has had stability issues before. Usually you need to uninstall the x64 version of java first. However if your referring to OutlawLovesMinecraft's problems keep in mind that he? uses a Mac so I imagine it is not that simple.

For ones getting crashes - update your natives. lwjgl.org, replace natives folder in .minecraft/bin, and jars.
While this is worth a try, keep in mind that what works on Windows may not work in MacOS or Linux.

Surprisingly easy fix once I though of a good way to do it. In the next version Pickaxes will be effective against Redstone Ore, Obsidian, and Bricks. I will restore Brick and Obsidian hardness to their previous levels, due to the new effectiveness of pickaxes. However if you disable the BetterPickaxes (for instance to avoid a mod conflict) I will keep Brick, Obsidian and now Redstone Ore at the lower hardness level.
If any know of other blocks that tool's should logically be effective against, but are not, just point them out to me and I'll fix it.
Chests, workbenches and furnaces should be mined faster with axes (pickaxe for the furnace). Would make sense in my opinion.
Chest's already are, but I will add workbenches. Furnaces and Dispensers will be added to the pickaxe.

Good mod! But i can`t install it. Crash... crash... crash...
Have you tried from a clean jar? If yes, post the ModLoader.txt and/or a full report as described here.

Workbenches necessary to break the sword, will be faster. chest If the ax so quickly.
Breaking workbenches with a sword doesn't make sense. And a chest already responds to an axe. If I misunderstood sorry.
EDIT: missed your post

Hi there, this mod looks outstanding and adds things that should be in the game by defualt. It's especially good since the is an option to use 0 block id's.
There is one thing that dissapoints me though. Seeing how you have painstakingly made many aspects of the mod configurable I was surprised to see that the block hardness aspect of it is not. It is pretty crucial for me to have a very hard obsidian block for example as I use Industrial craft and those nuclear meltdowns are a real nightmare without it.
First, hardness is for mining/harvesting. While resistance is vs Explosions. The resistance of obsidian is 950% that of normal stone. I'd be surprised if the nukes (and meltdowns) from Industrial Craft can break it, if it can tell me and I'll add a new option just for obsidian.
If you are asking for individual options for the blocks I change that's not going to happen for the simple reason that it would make the configuration file quite large, and implementing it would be a testing nightmare unless I added all the blocks in Minecraft.

It was really a request to make optional the changes you have made to hardness/resistance. i.e reverting them back to vanilla. I'll give it a try though, I just didn't want to introduce it into my save as it's very early in the game and would be a long way off until i found out if it was actually a problem or not.
Oh, the changes as a whole are optional read the OP or Readme.txt.
Hardness and Resistance (NEW in v3.0)
Changed the hardness (vs Harvesting/Mining) of various blocks. A full list is in the Readme.txt and they can all be returned to normal by setting fixBlockHardness to false in the configuration file.
Changed the resistances (vs Explosions) of various blocks. A full list is in the Readme.txt and they can all be returned to normal by setting fixBlockResistance to false in the configuration file.
I've just been in the config file and I think there is something wrong
##### General
### Configuration options that affect all of BetterBlocks or Minecraft.
# Allow all blocks added by BetterBlocks to be unmade. Set to false to disable reverse recipes.
addNewBlocks=false
# Fixes the hardness (of mining) of various blocks to more sensable values.
fixBlockHardness=true
# Fixes the resistance (to explosions) of various blocks to more sensable values.
fixBlockResistance=true
# Allow all blocks added by BetterBlocks to be unmade. Set to false to disable reverse recipes.
recipeAddReverse=true
# Sets the stack size for foods (port, bread, apples, etc.) Set to zero to leave defaults.
stackSizeFood=0
# Sets the stack size for placables (door, sign, bed) Set to zero to leave defaults.
stackSizePlacable=16
# Sets the stack size for vehicles (boat, minecarts, saddle) Set to zero to leave defaults.
stackSizeVehicle=4
# Allow all blocks added by BetterBlocks to be unmade. Set to false to disable reverse recipes.
recipeAddReverse=true
This option is repeated twice, one set to false and the other set to true. I'm making an assumption here but is the first one (the one set to flase) meant to be the 'Addnewblocks' setting? because I cannot find that setting within the config file (could be my blindess again) Also when I set this to true I get black screened even when I change to block i'd's. Runs fine when set to false.
EDIT: My word I really am losing it. I have seen the 'Addnewblocks' it just has the description for recipeAddReverse=true. I think I need some sleep :-s
Thanks for the bug report, it'll be fixed in 3.2. Now go sleep :wink.gif:
EDIT: It appears your blindness is contagious, I missed you first problem. As for the black-screen It's probably a block ID conflict. Modloader.txt should tell you which ID. If it's something else post your Modloader.txt and a report as detailed here
could you make it possible to place ladders on fences? i'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but there are a lot of places where i could use it.
One little bug i've encountered... My iron door is now called a wooden door... O_o...
And awesome mod, no new textures (which means texture pack support!), ids, sprites, etc. I really think this is the kind of "missing content" mod that Notch should just add indefinitely.

Um... No. Just. No.
A kind of fence that uses a ladder maybe. But it would just look WAY too odd. Besides i don't think you could see em. (in vanilla)
Could it have fixed my problem?
Since I can't determine what your problem is, it's possible.
Fences, no. Slabs, yes, but it would be based on being next to a horizontal log.
Fixes a ton of bugs and adds functional features. It's like the patch I've always wanted.

Keep up the good work, haven't fall through a slab yet.
- Imperial Lands by lolo500
- PortalCraft by Leggos_My_Eggos
Mods & Tools I support:
- DJoslin's Creations by DJoslin
- mIDas by Pfaeff

Typo fixed for next version. When I fixed that bug I though I was fixing a minor graphical glitch :wink.gif:

Elemental Swords
DAMN YOU LIMITED CHARACTERS!
I'm sorry, i can't say anything else. It's just awesome.
And yeah, Notch better do this when he "un-beta"'s it. Dunno about upside down stairs, but the rest MUST be in it.
