Not gonna lie, this project has taken a backseat to my other projects, so stuff like adding the gui probably won't come for awhile. This update is a simple update to the new version of the game.
What's included?
Two types of fountains, the lava fountain and the water fountain. Both of which can be activated by redstone.
No more will you have dreary always on fountains! Control them from a distance with this!
The fountains are safe too (somewhat)! If you put a fountain over an active torch, it will not start until you turn the torch off and on. This means that you can place lava fountains safely. The converse however is not true, if you place a live torch under a fountain, it will start. Also, you get infinite water and lava when the block is powered by redstone (the block that you can get the water/lava from is the highest block of liquid in the fountain).
AS OF 1.4.01 THE LAVA MAY OR MAY NOT DESPAWN WHEN THE FOUNTAIN IS TURNED OFF. THIS IS NOT MY FAULT, BLAME NOTCH. See the todo list for more.
Properties
Properties as of 0.3
Block ids for both water and lava fountains, default is 200 and 201
Height: the total height the fountain can reach to. It will not destroy blocks, so if it can't go to it's max height, it goes to the highest air block, default is 2. All numbers are valid, 0 or negative numbers will make the water/lava spawn below the object. 1 isn't tested, but should work. NOTE: changing the height after you've already set blocks with a certain height will create a permanent spawn at the old height. I'm working on fixing this, as well as a GUI for changing the height of each block individually.
Autodown: takes care of bugginess that may occur due to the lava code, it will completely delete all water/lava above the fountain, as well as the adjacent blocks, default is true.
To do list: Right-click toggle activation, so you don't have to redesign your entire fountain to get the correct type of redstone circuit. (This means if it's powered and you right click it, it will turn off until you turn off the power, at which point the fountain will turn on again.) not going to happen. Adding a height property that will allow for auto-water elevators or deadly lava spires (also adding a default props file so you don't have to put it in yourself). Now to add a GUI to make it personalized.
note: height will come first, though width and depth may eventually follow. This however is somewhat doubtful. Adding better textures, (If you want to make some for me, I'd be happy to accept). Done! Further testing on other Operating Systems and the like. If you have a Mac or Linux distro, please test it out for me and let me know the results. nobody's bitched so i'm presuming it's fine
Making lava blocks when dropped as an item not destroyed by lava. Possibly making a new, more accessible recipe. Though if the height idea works as planned, the recipe is staying. it's staying.
Possibly working with lava a little bit as of 1.4.01 lava is rather bugged.
Adding more fountain colors, this is going in the next update (probably for 1.5).
Water actually seeming to come from the fountain, rather than spawning in the sky.
Drill property, which will destroy above blocks.
Special Thanks
_303 for helping me with properties.
Defiance for saving me from a crazy amount of stress and pretty much completely rewriting a section of code.
Nirahiel and iChun for helping me with a bunch of stuff generally.
tomaten1324 for helping me with coding textures, and zompiepigcreeper for making the new textures.
Sulphur for the recipe idea.
Th3guy for helping me get started.
And all of the guys at the esper IRC for being cool people and helping me along.
That's really it, this is a work in progress and there will be updates, regardless of whether or not you guys like it :tongue.gif: If you have suggestions or requests for additions to this mod, or would like to contribute, feel free to leave a comment or pm me.

i remember seeing a fountain mod a while back before 1.3 or 1.2 ( i have the hardest time trying to remember things ) and it was just like this but the blocks looked like regular stone and the fountain created 2 water springs above it and the water would be... recreated i guess i could say if you picked up the water while the fountain was active, does this mod do the same?

Yes that was searge's mod. I don't quite understand what you mean by "the fountain created 2 water springs above it" but the fountain does have a height of two blocks. As for being recreated, not yet. That is what i'm working on as we speak and it should be up within the hour.
no it creates water in an upward fashion. where as a floodgate would release water in an only downward fashion.
you have no idea how many times i had to explain that in the IRC :tongue.gif:

it could use some work, just a simple rectangle at the base looks tacky. Other than that the rest looks fine. It's pretty nice.
I did say that the textures suck.... But if you want to make some X-P
Just find the image file and change it urself to what ever you like, Nice mod as well :3
it can be used as a floodgate but u will have to mine out more space for it to work xd
not like i hid the image file, but if you were mentioning sulpher, he's a friend and it made me laugh. not sure how it could be used as a floodgate, but if you say so :biggrin.gif: (if you are suggesting it would requite a little code on my part, i would be happy to oblige).
Bumping with new update:
Default property file maker added (you don't have to put it there anymore, old properties files are obsolete and can be deleted).
Height property added
New textures added
Auto_shutdown to take care of lava spawning sources added.
Next update (likely for 1.5)
multicolor fountains (based on wool)
redstone fountain (water powers things, also sparkly)
GUI for personalized fountain height
Will this be made compatible with SMP? That would be really awesome! Thanks for a great mod, and keep up the good work!
I don't know frankly... I haven't gone into SMP too much and i still have a lot of work on my plate with More Doors and Large doors (and gates for fences). I've also been really sick so i'm not really sure what's going to happen :sad.gif:

Okay, thanks for the quick reply :smile.gif: I hope you get feeling better soon!
Hello,
I tried your mod and have a small problem with the water fountain block, it is a lava fountain.
Not sure if it's relevent but I had to change the Block ID's to 252-253.

Don't know about anyone else, but since i have another project, take your time. Here's some for a good mod, add your multicolor fountains and i'll give you :Diamond:. One question though: how do you power it if the lava/water washes away the redstone when you use it? That's a problem with me currently... It doesn't work when the redstone is underneath the fountain generator.

I've noticed that, but as i see no plausible way of fixing it, i simply suggest one of two things

both of which can protect your torch and are relatively easy to create. However i may talk with tehkrush about making redstone candles protected from water. Lava works entirely differently and so that may or may not be possible, but i'll try!
EDIT: you can also put redstone directly on top of the fountain if you're using it for a flooding mechanism.

Thanks for that, the first type works. I'm actually creating a water fountain "show" so I need the redstone running underground. That's why I'm willing for the colored fountains so I can create the illusion of "lights" underwater. This might be a really big request, but is it possible to make fountains go at different heights, say one water at 3 and one at 5? It's ok if it's not possible.
