Ouch! I feel so hurt because I like dogs and cats. I'm just going to go and be sad with the only other people who like animals. Oh right: that's the rest of humanity!
I play MC for a the challenge, and BTW certainly provides more of that than Notch's wolf. So, yes, it is better.
I don't play MC to have a "cat block" or fake pets. Why should I. My wife and I have 5 cats, 3 dogs, and 3 birds. Nearly all of them are rescues. My wife works at the animal shelter, and sees cases of abandoned and abused animals all the time.
You have no clue how wrong you are about "the rest of humanity". Some people like critters. Way too many don't.
Edit: Flower: I don't want to feed the troll, but he touched a sore spot.
try adding a repeater on the strip of redstone thats to below the water wheel and under it by about a block or so. The distance from your gearbox to the output line's repeater seems to be about 18 blocks. (i think you're actually turning off the main gearbox at the water wheel by running the redstone over it on a cobble block, because that seems to be around 13-14 from that repeater, just so ya know, i never checked to see if you could turn off a gearbox by powering a block on top of a gearbox tho, so that may not be true)
also im a little confused on what youre doing with the branched off line of redstone on the XOR gate's output (at the bottom of that pic). pop that branch off and test it that way, maybe the redstone torch is doing something.
just below the water wheel is a straight drop down of redstone torches to lead up. and what part do you mean at the bottom of the pic? leading to the second pulley?

ok, this is looking directly at that pic:
Your XOR gate looks fine, i get that you have an input from your bottom level coming up from under the water wheel, and i can follow your other input from right by the platforms. The inputs look fine.
From your XOR gate output: It branches up and down. For now, remove a piece of redstone from that upward branch to disable it (see next paragraph). On that downward branch it then goes to a repeater. From there it goes straight and also branches down and goes toward your bottom BD (we'll deal with this later), where it goes straight travels 18 blocks to the gearbox you're trying to turn off. So you need to add a repeater in there somewhere. Now back to where it branches down to that other DB, remove a piece of redstone from that to disable it (see next paragraph)
Are you also using your XOR gate output to control the BD to deactivate the brakes on the pulley? If so that won't work, you need to setup a seperate circuit for the BDs so you can have them always on, and then with a button press they flash off and then back on. You have the right idea with the BD's pulling a piece of redstone dust from what im assuming are your redstone lines running from your detectors to the pulleys to work as brakes. However the BD's *MUST* be operated using a button so they work properly, you cant use a part of that XOR gate.
at least thats my interpretation of the pic, maybe im seeing something wrong and someone else can help. You're really close though, dont give up hope my instructions were clear :smile.gif:

with that, its 3:20am, time to snooze.
ok well i do have a repeater in that section, it's just hidden by the cobblestone bridge thing there, and what do you mean a button for the BD's? a read button or a "redstone button" sorry not to great with redsone yet. *sigh*

lol no worries man, by "button" i mean you'll need to craft an actual button instead of a lever for the BD's.
I'll tell you what tomorrow i'll throw my 2 basic elevators on a map and put them up for download, that way you can get a good idea of how it works, and see all the redstone trickery, cool?

@Flower, so I built your exact farm(Above ground and let me tell you it was a *****...) BUT It only nets about 6 wooden PLANKS per tree, is this the same output of yours? Also Mine isn't reloading a sapling everytime...not sure why.

Is there an easy way to make a compact multi-floor elevator using the pullys?
Well "easy" is relative.
You need to know how to wire redstone if that's what you're asking. But if you're looking for examples, several videos and screens have been posted over the past couple of pages.

Nah man, I net 16 every shot (4 logs + 4 saws = 16 planks), and it reloads perfectly. It really doesn't make sense that you'd be getting less unless something is wrong.
Maybe post a screen or two of your setup and I can let you know if you missed something.

In fact i made a video! Hopefully I covered everything:
Sorry if I slur/mumble etc It's 2 in the morning and I'm quite tired. :wink.gif:

I'd like to chime in and mention (on a completely unrelated note) that the millstone will convert 1 wool into 4 string.
Don't know if it's mentioned but the OP doesn't mention this.
While we're on the subject (whoosh!) maybe a nice touch would be to allow gravel to be ground into flint?
Moving back on topic;
I'm coming to realize that i need a decent treefarm to make the most out of the additions :tongue.gif:
While thinking about this; wouldn't the use of (sticky) pistons in combination with the saws make things easier for everyone when they are implemented? We just move the lowest saw closer when the tree has grown together with the BD that normally places the sapling to keep the level of the sapling free so it grows faster.
Don't have the piston mod installed atm but maybe this can solve some growing issues...
Use a hopper with a filter(There are various and all work) to filter gravel into 1 sand and 1 gravel. :biggrin.gif:
Also Flower has stated a few times he's going implement easier way to do these things, he just hasn't made them yet. :smile.gif:

i'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but when i put a redstone torch next to a powered light block, it only powers one, wheras if do it using redstone wire it powers 4 blocks adjacent to each other.

Redstone wire give power directly to the light block which then allows it to power other light blocks near it. A redstone torch just powers blocks near it with no direction so the light block will not pass on the power to other adjacent blocks.
That's not a glitch really, that's just how redstone works in normal Minecraft. If you wire redstone straight into a block then that block will be counted as being powered (and not just receiving power) while placing a redstone torch only makes it receive power. If you truly want to understand redstone, then I recommend looking up some tutorials on youtube (Rolf-David is perhaps one the best ones).

No worries man. I happen to love animals too, so I know where you're coming from
I love how the wolfaboos seem to jump to the conclusion that I must have some deep-seated hatred of wolves/dogs/animals. I find it endlessly amusing.

If you place the saw across from the dispenser then you can have a hopper below it to catch all your panels.
Surround the hopper with water, and have water on top of the hopper (key part) that *might* work
