Lol! I responded to your last video too man (the castle gate demo). I was just so busy that day that I waited until much later when things calmed down (and after I got a release out) to take the time to watch it all

I honestly only play MC now to use your mod, MC without BTW is boring, loosely strung together and directionless. Your mod gives you real goals to set for yourself, my legit world is just vanilla + BTW and it feels like what minecraft SHOULD be, but isnt.
Thanks man!
I'm basically taking the day to just play Minecraft/BTW, and yeah, I can't say I see myself playing Minecraft without it either. Basically, all my in-game activities now involve the mod in some way, and I'm not at all inclined to start projects of a non-mechanical nature.
Taking a lot of notes as I do this too, so hopefully the next release will contain a lot of nice little tweaks and minor features to improve things

yea this thread gets really busy sometimes so i prob missed it somehow, glad to hear you watch 'em.

I still need to install 2.62 (you can see that rope glitch happening in my videos) i keep forgetting, i guess ill justt wait for the next update, unless i get a couple extra mins later.
Im sort of excited for MC 1.7, mostly because of the changes to redstone and how it can now connect to repeaters, it'll make wiring so much easier. Of course i'll still wait for BTW to update to 1.7 before i update :smile.gif:
After having a chance to play with this mod (ver 2.62) I would like to say it is over all amazing. Many of the components seamlessly fit into the world without smothering it.
Glad you're enjoying it man

Tweaks / Suggestions
Add a metal axle to go 5/6 blocks
The 3-block limit on wood axles is actually a technical restriction of the way the guts of Minecraft works. Basically, each block only has 4 bits of data associated with it. In the case of redstone, which has no orientation, this allows it to travel up to 15 blocks.
Because axles have an orientation, 2 bits of this data is reserved for the 3 possible orientations, leaving only 2 bits of data for its power state, which allows for numbers between 0 and 3 (with 0 being off).
So yeah, metal axles or what have you aren't really a possibility. It's not a restriction put in place by them being wood.

If a hopper or chest is adjacent to a millstone have the worked items placed into them instead of spewed out in random directions.
It's spewed out in random directions because it's intended to be used in conjunction with water-flow to collect your goods and place them somewhere (like in a hopper), so it's an intentional design choice that's unlikely to change.
Automatic collection is definitely already a possibility, you just have to think about the way the device operates, and how to make that happen.
I don't like making things too easy man. It's part of my overall design philosophy

Side notes:
As far as direction boosters go, there are some mods out there that currently do this; Advanced Minecarts, Minecarts MK 2 (my favorite). Instead of adding another direction booster, just make this mod work in conjunction with those mods. (Note: Currently do not have MK2 installed with this mod for testing purposes)
Nah, I don't believe in making this mod dependant on others. Basically, the way I work is that if I see an area of Minecraft that needs improvement, I just go ahead and do it. Whether other mods also do it or not is really not a concern to me.
Basically, this mod is intended to work alone and without any others installed (with the exception of ModLoader, and eventually probably audiomod as well) and will continue to operate that way for as long as I'm at the helm
Indeed. That's gonna make things a lot more convenient for compact wiring.
Ah! The only request you'll get from me is a SupCom match request. (which I may regret due to my lack of experience)
Actually, when SupCom came out, my computer wasn't up to running it so I've only played it over at a friend's place, and that was a couple of years ago.
However, It was enough to prove to me that they maintained everything I loved about TA
Your post just motivated me to pick up the game through Direct2Drive though as I have a relatively new computer now, and I'm in the process of downloading it for myself. So maybe we can have a match afterall
Now, just to be clear, you're playing the first Supreme Commander, and not the abomination that was the sequal correct?
I see we share the same opinion about the sequel. And yes, good old Supreme Commander 1.
I actually didn't have the specs to run it until recently and was stuck playing occasionally at a friend's place too. Yay for friends with stronger computer. Anyway, this is great news!
Ok so i figured my 3 floor elevator was basic enough, but alas people apparently are rough with BD's and Detectors. So i made an even MORE basic elevator, just 2 floors with just an up/down lever setup to a XOR gate.

Hehe...I get the impression the mod is becoming like an IQ test for Minecraft players
Man, if they're getting confused now, the next tech level is going to completely leave them in the dust. Personally though, I think that's the way it should be. To me, games are cool when mastery takes skill and intelligence, while the basics can be learned by anyone.
But yeah, as I mentioned yesterday, I hate to think of the support-questions that will start popping-up when I put the next level in

Yeah, the sequal was a complete POS. Not sure if you're familiar with the history of that franchise, but what's tragically funny is that they made the same bloody mistake with Total Annihiliation.
They put out an overly-simplified sequal called "Kingdoms" that basically buried the company (then called Cave Dog). Years later (like a decade), they form another studio, put out Supreme Commander, then pull the same bone-headed move with the second game because a bunch of retards complained the first one was "too complicated".
As far as I can tell, that will be the end of the second company as well.
You figure they would have learned after the first time...but no.
And oddly, that's all strangely related to what I just said above about complexity in games in general
can someone make a video of have to make an elevator using detectors to stop at floors? can't figure it out.
dude really? i JUST posted one, go back one page.
screw it here's a link to save you time
It's really simple. Line the detector up with where you want the platform to stop. Then run a spiral of redstone to the pulley (dont use torches, too much of a delay, use redstone and repeaters if you have to)
To turn the "brake" off, wire a button to a Block dispenser. When you press the button make the BD swallow a piece of that "redstone spiral" i just mentioned (a piece of the redstone, not a block). Put it on a button so it pulses the BD. that will disable the brake long enough for the platform to move.
@Flower: Yea, you should put a disclaimer or something for this mod "May require thinking and/or planning"
random note, i think im going to try for a "most compact elevator" just to give it a shot (like when we did the auto-hemp modules), i think i figured out the "use a single BD for the brake release" thine. I'm going to put vertical XOR gates, on the left side for up/down, on the right side for brake/no brake, and im going to run the detector spiral up the back of the elevator shaft. this should enable me to be able to expand or contract it to almost any size, obviously only limited by the fact that XOR gates are big lol.
@Flower: Yea, you should put a disclaimer or something for this mod "May require thinking and/or planning"
Hey, the basics are easy enough man. You can light a few Hibachis, power a Cauldron, light up an area with Light Blocks, what have you, but yeah, if you want the really cool ****, you're going to have to work for it.
What fun is it otherwise? If you just want everything handed to you, install something like TooManyItems or Buildcraft
Yeah, I was sad when Cave Dog died. They were awesome. But when I tried Kingdoms, I couldn't believe it was made by the same people. "Ew, what is this, I don't even..." And history had to repeat itself. -sigh- Economy too complex? I mean, really? I could rant a while about that but I'll spare the thread that kind of wall of text.
At least I know you won't ever do that to your mod.
Edit: Lol, just noticed your new forum rank, mining god. >.<

Lol! Nah man. As you may have noticed, the mod only gets more challenging with time
And yeah, Kingdoms was a true abomination. They were not only trying to simplify the game, but also cash-in on the then Warcraft II success story.
It was really silly. I could totally hear some suit in a board-room saying "What does Warcraft have that we don't have?" and giving his own answer of "It's fantasy and it's simpler!"
They managed to kill everything that made their first game successful in one fell swoop. They alienated their core-audience, and they didn't have the experience necessary to compete with Warcraft on the same playing field and draw-in the mass-market buyer they were hoping for.
Having worked in the industry for a long time, I've had the misfortune of being privey to many similar conversations.
But yeah, extreme off-topic. We should probably PM further discussions about this

Yea seriously, I have a blast building mechanical stuff, these elevators are really making me dive back into redstone too which got boring for a while lol.
I use TMI, but only for my video stuff, in my legit world i have much more basic systems setup. My "video world" i must have 5 or 6 windmills, tons of water wheels everywhere etc. Everything all running at once, not causing any delays either, dont ever notice glitches from it either.
The mechanical system is great, and less frustrating than redstone (because of all of redstones "quirks") Mechanical power is so straightforward it just takes imagination and planning. One of my favorite parts is the fact that its really better to build the device and THEN build the building around it. Just watching the whole machine working before covering it all up is awesome, you really feel like "hey look at that awesome thing i built" instead of "hey look at all the flashing red dust"

By the way, how long do you usually take for average updates? Not super-awesome-mega updates like the pulley, but the average ones. Since you thought the time between 2.59 and 2.6 was long, I'm curious as to what you consider is "normal". :smile.gif:
Awesome, thank you! Also props on the music. :biggrin.gif:

("Grind Hemp in the Mill Stone to make Hemp Fibers and Rope!")
Was this added by your mod, or did Mojang add this? :smile.gif:
Sorry if this has been posted before.
The mod adds a lot of these. It's in the splashes.txt.
Thanks.
