*wakes up* So, Rampage had a suggestion he mentioned on his server... In-game tazer guns! How do you feel about that? Oh, and my suggestion before I fainted... You know how with the dragon orbs, all that exp ends up going to waste? The answer is: Urns that transform into exp bottles! Automation, ya know? *bumps thread*

FC already added this to the game- exp bottle has been renamed 'soul-urn' as experience is the "soul" of a slain monster.
Try cracking a few soul urns open in your base for some exp.

hey FlowerChild - I've been watching Icy's "Better than Icy" Let's Play series, and it indirectly brought to my attention all of the smaller details that went into BTW that I take for granted nowadays, like animals eating dropped food/not accepting food by hand when full, more consistent nugget recipes, the clay block->clay bits shortcut recipe, various performance improvements, etc, which are not the central focus of the mod total conversion.
I'd like to thank you for taking the time to put those in. I was playing Vanilla 1.6.4 recently and it felt..unpolished without those refinements.
FC, how do you feel about creepers spawning in the nether from portals. To me it feels like a "By the way, screw you..." kind of scenario. I went into the nether for my second time to build up the area around the portal to be safer, but the instant i portalled through, i was blasted from my precarious portal location into a lava lake... now i know the nether is supposed to be risky and dangerous to venture into, but to me there seems to be no way to properly react to that in some circumstances. I thought i saw something about pigmen not spawning from portals anymore, and it seemed odd to me that the reverse still occured.

The "reverse" doesn't happen as you may think.
What is happening is your nether portal is open to things from the overworld, and they're wandering through your portal. A creeper happened to wander into it and be teleported to the Nether. Protect the overworld portal and keep monsters from wandering into it.

Oh... i hadn't thought about that really. My portal IS out in the open, and has been a few nights since it went up. Now that i know that this is what happens it seems more fair; it was a mistake i made in ignorance, and can avoid in the future. Things like this don't bother me. Things that are periodical "SURPRISE! you are dead!" scenarios that you can do nothing about (like the old "fall through the floor and suffocate to death" bugs that used to happen) bother the hell out of me though xD

It's not a matter of not being able to react, it's a matter of not letting it happen in the first place.
If you leave your portals accessible to mobs on the overworld side, you getting blown up when you step through is on you.
EDIT: Bah, sorry. Didn't see this was already responded to before writing the above

Wouldn't a proper reaction just be as simple as a rage quit?
I've been gone for a little while and I have to say, you really are wrapping things up, these last minute changes are still impacting the game. This is an achievement. Hey, with all the lighting and weather changes, I am wondering, do the phases of the moon have and effect on the light level? Your lunacy nearing it's end in this dimension I have to say I'm proud of this thing which I have had nothing to do with. With MC headed in the wrong direction, a (super sexy) god like yourself has to take a seventh day of rest, and drink a beer. Cheers

By the way, portals have other....side effects, but that's Nothing to Worry About.

FlowerChild is definitely against that sort of death. I'd characterize him as "tough, but fair".
Note that the creeper-went-through-the-portal thing is made especially dangerous by a vanilla limitation: in minecraft, when nobody is in the region, chunks are unloaded, and everything is frozen, including monsters. So Mr. Creeper goes in and gets stuck right near the portal, unless it's SMP and people are close to the portal.
As a side effect though, the first time I discovered the creeper-portal surprise, I was well armored against the little green buggers and several of them had gone through, but the first one that exploded killed the others (including all of the skeletons and zombies), most likely saving me.
Thanks man. I've been trying my best to turn MC into a finished game, not just the BTW features, and that's all part of it
And you did a damn good job with it.
Back in 2010 when I played Minecraft Alpha, the game was already so awesome, so I thought... When the full release version comes out, it has to be the friggin best game ever, a much more polished, bigger and complete game than what the alpha was. Unfortunately, Minecraft 1.0 was one of the worst Minecraft versions ever, a complete piece of crap, and since Notch stopped working on it, it mostly got even worse with the updates.
Thanks to you, Better Than Wolves feels like the complete true final Minecraft, and it couldn't have been better than that.
So thank you
You know what? This mod must have been a amazing journey for you, past craving, rabid Wolfaboos, ignorant idiots who can't seem to accept the title you gave it, trolls, flamers, haters... But you know what the product of all this..... Delicious cream mix is? A compact, direct package of pure, 999 carat awsome. The cement, the steel armour, the hardcore changes, the interesting and unique features, dem, friggin, light blocks! Just pure. Awsome.
Hehe...thanks man, and yeah, it's certainly been quite a journey
So we've been having a bit of a dilemma on our server, We started a new world a few weeks ago but we're not exploring too far out of HC spawn range because we're waiting for the villager update, so we're improvising different ways of getting food without a village. So far we've been living on mushroom omelets and some scrambled eggs too.
Naturally we've been building and building, we've gotten to the nether, blaze spawner, just made a stoked cauldron, about to start the kiln room. We've been putting a lot of work into a mob trap too and among the other drops, we now effectively have unlimited rotten flesh and bones. Coupled with the fact that we have a sugar cane farm, we realised that it's very very easy for us to make large amounts of kibble. One of the guys on the server noticed that it restores the same amount of hunger as the mushroom omelets so now a few of them are running around literally eating like pigs.
I just wanted to mention it in case the amount of hunger regenerated by kibble was left over from before Hardcore Hunger, although it does technically take a fair amount of effort to produce, it feels wrong to be eating like a pig!

I thought there was an option in the config to turn them back on???
