Yea, i guess I should have remembered that fact. Didn't know if it atually ment anything however as it is the first config out of a LOT that Ive seen have something like that. That clears this bit right on up now. Thanks

i think with the 1.4 mobs through neather portals its usefull transport.... but any mob spawned within the neather will get possessed with this mod correct Flowerchild? just like those chickens
I'd seen the name of this mod floating around for months but never looked into it, now I wish I'd done so sooner. Really dig what I've read and watched about it, and I look forward to giving it a try over the next few days. the Ages interest me the most, as they give some sort of quantifiable progress to an otherwise open game.
EditEdit: Well there dissapeared that one, and I had so much fun data analysing...
I did not read all of it. However, i think using Google search terms and time between posts are two very, very narrow bands in the spectrum of success. so the guy with the initial analysis was, well maybe not wrong with his data, but it's far, far from complete.
so i personally wouldn't have bothered with such a long counter-analysis, but the parts i read were pretty good.
I just wonder why anyone seriously spends that much time trying to prove something
Most likely explanation: they just had a class of data analysis or so.
Anyway, it wouldn't be so bad if it was a thorough, proper analysis. But this is basically "well let's pick two small pieces of the spectrum and analyze it".
Furthermore, popularity is a horrible way to measure things, and it says nothing about quality.
A simple thought experiment about why "the majority is always right" doesn't work.
Simply take 100 people from the middle of the darkest parts of africa, and allow them to work together to beat a test against a math professor in a math test. Who wins? Math professor no contest.
This of course, can be reversed: take 100 math professors and put them up against a single person from africa. Now the majority wins.
What does that tell you? it's not the majority or the amount of people that makes them right. It has NOTHING to do with the actual number. It depends on what collection you draw from.
The idea that the majority is right is based upon this:
intellect is normally distributed. That means that for every math professor, there's a nitwit, and there are far more average people than there are stupid or smart people.
So if you take a large enough group, you have a good chance to draw a lot of normal people. And their contestor is likely (based upon the same distribution) to be a normal person too. a lot of normal people usually know more than a single normal person.
But the problem is: it breaks down if you do not draw from the same pool.
Putting in place some simplicity, i can fairly accurately say that the majority of minecraft players, that visit fora like these, are likely to be teenagers, with a significant(as in: meaningful) group of twentiers too.
Flowerchild is, from what i've gathered, a middle-aged man. WIth age comes wisdom, and he has a lot of experience in the programming department and game design department.
What do you think most teenagers and twentiers achieved (and i am part of that group, by the way). What experience do they have?
simply put: he outqualifies the vast majority of internet people playing Minecraft.
Now there's an important factor here: people have to be both people visiting fora, AND play minecraft. This group quickly looses age, experience and credential when you take in another factor: posting on fora.
Therefore, by demographics and statistics, he's better than many people on this forum, and many people visiting this thread.
Applying this to the thread itself: the #1 reason to post is tech support. That adds another factor to the previous collection: needing tech support.
So the group of people, who play minecraft, go to fora, post on threads, and need tech support do not have exactly good outlooks.
However, we can also apply this backwards: the group of people needing tech support is fairly large, in absolute numbers. If we zoom out, that by definition means that the group of people who plays this mod, is greater than the group who plays this mod and needs tech support. On a server, a quick survey of 10 people revealed all of them to be higher-schooled people, so it's definitely not only dumb people that play this mod. Applying the normal distribution of intellect again, this means that the group of people who play BTW, is about twice as large as the amount of posts suggests, with potential for far, far more given the difficulty of this mod.
The thing is: this group is unseen, as they don't post (again: most posts are tech support or people complainting for compatibility, features, forge etc), as they have no reason to other than the occasional "i love this mod" statement.
I know someone's gonna say "this applies just as much to RP", but i quite frankly just do not know what the majority of posts is about on that side, or what kind of people enjoy it. given the statements on this thread, i would say it's the "MOAR POWER" group combined with the more electronics oriented group, plus some others of course. That makes the demographic over there, different from here.
on a very different note:
i am getting this:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) [2002]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
i got this error when checking any subforum on the BTW fora.
Gotta say, first off: Bloody freaking hell I wish I had the knowledge and speech skills to be able to give that good of an analysis without resorting to unprofessional drudgery or repetitiveness. That right there was a linguistic masterpiece in the realm of anaysis when it comes to Minecraft. Kudos to you CreeperCommando!
Second, I agree with Barcode in the fact that a mod should never be judged alongside other mods. This is not a competition. Mods are designed for the users to use IF THEY FEEL LIKE IT. If the userbase enjoys the mod, then the mod is a success. People too often see mods as a competition for the best features, and to an extent there are a lot of mod makers out there that think the same thing. Thats where you get mods that feel like their trying to do everything all at once without a clear goal on what the mod is. FC has built BTW with a goal in mind: To provide functionality and enjoyment to the game while still adhering to the overall feel of the original game. He isn't adding in computers and spacecraft, hes putting things into the mod that fit a logistical sense towards a pre-medieval theme that follows a natural advancement of technical prowess. There is nothing wrong with mods that add in things that DONT follow the original minecraft simply because that is THEIR MOD. If they have a fanbase that plays the mod, enjoys it, and comes back for updates, then that mod is just as big of a success as compared to any other mod.
TL:DR A mod should never be ranked based off of the numbers that play it.
Hah, hey, Kill
Yeah, usually I use my alt account "Yamboyz1" for things like MCF and whatnot.
It's a long story, I don't want to get into it :/
Let's just say that I didn't exactly make the best suggestions a year ago.
wize old man once said, "don't feed the trolls or they will keep biteing but do feed the wolf to get poop"
I don't get the impression he's a troll, which is why I took the time to explain things in detail. He's contributed constructively to this thread for awhile now, and I got more the impression that he didn't fully understand the issues at hand, or the long history behind them, rather than that he was intentionally trying to aggravate people.
Just because someone disagrees with my point of view doesn't automatically make them a troll. If someone steps into the middle of a year long feud, they're of course not going to have a good idea of what was behind it in the first place.
But yes, I agree that it's time for us to move on from this as I think all that can be said has been said. I also suspect the moderators are getting tired of hitting the delete button on posts
Hello fellow BTWers, back on topic... has anyone else been experiencing slow growth of netherwart? I say so because I decided to start my nether production today, planted some bloodwood saplings, placed my netherwart farm and spent nearly 2 hours fighting zombie pigmen (till my steel sword almost broke). During the process I harvested the trees several times (I got 4 full stacks of wood) but the netherwart barely grew, 2 plant out of 30 reached maturity, in 2 hours! Not sure if being awfully unlucky, but my netherfarms used to be ready for harvest in 10-15 minutes at most.
Thanks!
Additional info: I'm playing in a local server I share with my brother (being hosted in my machine), we use the default config except for HCB, the growth rates of other crops remains the same, the only other mod being used is inventorytweaks.
I'm sure future hardcore additions to the mod will resolve that issue
that i highly dobt, this mod is muched beloved by the people who play it because of how hardcore it is
ohh and i has a question, do screw pumps also carry items that are traveling alone the same warter flow up at the same time as the warter?
also is there a way to filter uncooked eggs(gooy) from seads(small) and eggs(stack to 16)?
Digging this mod, I had posted here to ask if you've got an ETA for a 1.4 compatible version, but my post was deleted and I was given an infraction for spamming, go figure.
BTW if Bonemeal no longer grants instant growth, how does one go about creating Giant Mushrooms in BTW?
Reference to The Odyssey, specifically when Odysseus blinds Polyphemus the cyclops and said his name was "Nobody".
Yea, i guess I should have remembered that fact. Didn't know if it atually ment anything however as it is the first config out of a LOT that Ive seen have something like that. That clears this bit right on up now. Thanks
When Polyphemus shouted to his brothers that nobody blinded him, they pretty much stfu'd him, huh?
Great job.
And I had a ton of fun reading it. That was an awesome analysis.

In the immortal words of John Paul Jones (I'm a bit of a buff for 18th century naval warfare):
"I have not yet begun to fight."
As exemplified by my game design strategy, I'm an exceedingly patient guy when I set my mind to something.
I don't get the impression he's a troll, which is why I took the time to explain things in detail.
