Wow... just wow. You figured that all out so quickly? You must really know your symbology... or read a lot of Dan Brown.
ACK! NO! NOT DAN BROWN!
I suck at redstone and redstone logic, I'm marginally better at mechanical systems, I'm a decent aesthetic builder, I have a (probably) misplaced affinity for a certain system of weights and measures, and I'm frequently confused by netiquette, but I was heavily into the occult from the ages of 17-21, and even though that was 15 years ago now and the details are mostly lost to the mists of memory, the symbols jumped out almost instantly.
The tarot was first; I used to read with Ryder-Waite, so those were fairly easy to identify, although I had to exercise some Google-fu to figure out which particular deck the art was from.
Looking at the fish-man, I thought, that's either Babylonian, Sumerian, or Assyrian, and it was with a bit of poking around that I found Oannes, then Dagon. I had originally thought the six-sided star was Rosicrucian or Masonic, but Dagon reminded me of Lovecraft, which reminded me of Robert Anton Wilson (Illuminatus!), which reminded me of Aleister Crowley, which reminded me of the Golden Dawn, and then *click* and there you go.
Unfortunately, my occult library isn't with me here in Japan, so I can't reference urtext and must rely on internet sources...well, what can you do.
Obviously my ideas for the others weren't on the right track, as others have deciphered the references, but I have to say that Slavic folklore is new to me, so thanks for giving me something else to learn about, and the fall of Icarus is fitting on so many levels my brain is in shock.
I too am blown away by the intellect / inhuman capability of remembering stuff of those on this topic / BTW forums Us simpletons can stay together I think?
*sniff* I'm not a simpleton. This just isn't my area of study. I could talk all day if the topic was Tolkein or textiles... At least I knew Dan Brown with which to make a snarky reference

I still feel you should join us on the BTW forums proper. You'll fit in. Also, I'm with you about the redstone and mechanical prowess. I might make videos about the mod, but that doesn't mean I think I'm good at the game! lol
-Remove ability to use bricks as "filler" in the Block Dispenser and Hopper. Sorry guys, but it was way too open to exploits.
You've gotta be kidding me. Why? IN THE NAME OF SQUID, WHY!? <silently counts to ten> That just destroyed my entire soul-forged steel factory, that I've been working on for a month. I'm going to have to completely redo almost all of what I've built. Just what exploits does this allow for, that are so bad they must be removed? That feature adds a huge number of possibilities and refinements to the hopper, and as I said, those possibilities are a critical part of my factory, and one that I'm not going to be able to work around. This is a... frustrating... change, and I'd like to hear more of the reasoning behind it. It's cost me a lot of time and effort.

May the Force be with you. Unless you're a troll, in which case, may the farce be with you.
This is a... frustrating... change, and I'd like to hear more of the reasoning behind it. It's cost me a lot of time and effort.
Unfortunately, "filler" objects in the Hopper inv facilitate the use of the Hopper as a "universal filter" where you can selectively sort one particular item type (say reeds) from the rest.
Obviously, that invalidates the whole filtration system for the mod.
EDIT: And btw man, if there was a specific thing you were using it for, let me know and I'll see what I can do (assuming of course your use isn't an exploit in itself).
For example, people were using that feature to distribute items over a series of Hoppers...say seeds in a wheat farm. So, I've already bumped up the "Splitter Chute" in my todo list in order to accommodate that.
It's unfortunate when features have to be removed like that in order to avoid exploits, but for the long term welfare of the mod, it really is necessary.
Also, this might be another good reason to join the conversation on the BTW forums. I usually announce these kinds of changes there beforehand to give people a chance to plan around them.
What happens if Modloader goes obsolete? What would you do? Use Forge? The Fabled Mod API that isn't going to be ready for a few months at least? Go 'hook-free' & integrate what parts of modloader this mod uses? What?
I'm curious about this. I thought of this and it was simply too tempting to not ask...

I'm guessing that that would be done by filling all the slots in the hopper with bricks except one, and putting a reed in the last one. I see how that could work, but couldn't it be done just as easily by putting a reed in every slot in the hopper? More easily, in fact, since reeds are more readily available than bricks. I dunno. I guess I'm just frustrated because all my work is ruined, but it seems like this wouldn't really accomplish anything. The exploit is still available, and good functionality is not.

Again man, let me know what functionality you're now lacking, and I'll try my best to accommodate it.
Also note that the scenario you describe above no longer works due to the other change I made in this release to prevent it: the Hopper now ejects from random stacks instead of sequentially.
I have a few other small changes on the way as well that will make it even more difficult.

I'm using some hoppers basically as a measuring system. First, this means that my 4 stacks of netherrack in a waterflow can be run into 2 grinders, with the hoppers releasing the items only after the second hopper has sent a redstone signal saying that it's full. Then they hold all the ground netherrack until all 4 stacks of it have been ground, so they go into the urn-filler together. There are several other places in the factory where the same principle is used. It comes down to limiting the hopper's inventory so that it emits the redstone signal when it's only consumed a few stacks of items, which is exactly what the bricks were for in the first place.
OK. I've never used a setup that relies on that, so I wouldn't know. If that's not the exploit you're talking about, what is? I think making the hopper eject items randomly, like a vanilla dispenser, makes perfect sense. It's just the bricks that I object to.

Again, universal filter. Random eject isn't enough if you can fill all the slots but 1 with bricks.
Glad you're getting so much pleasure out of it man, and very happy to see you taking apart the new content like this
Yes, I love what this mod adds to Minecraft. It feels like it belongs, it makes sense, and it's balanced internally. The attention to detail and the concern for existing worlds/builds sets it apart from pretty much everything else. And the fact that you provide this for free, created in your free time for the sake of creation...well, Respect, man. Much Respect.
OK, sorry for what may be a double post, but I'm about to be without internet for a while, so I wanted to get some thoughts down while I had the chance.
My interpretation of things so far, given the new information that has come to light:
The first painting is Lament for Icarus, the second Dagon, the third the G.D. Earth Pentacle, the fourth a reference to a Slavic dragon called Zmey Gorynych.
The next is a representation of of the Minecraft BTW world, visualized as the Kabbalistic Sephiroth or Qliphoth. (Should we call it the Steve-phiroth? lol)
After that, the aforementioned cards of the tarot: The Magician, The Hanged Man, Death, The Fool.
The last, a painting called Isle of the Dead.
The Kabbalistic diagram is the most important thing here. The top circle (black) represents the End, the middle circle (blue/green) represents the Overworld, and the bottom (with the "H") represents "Home".
The other four represent the four elements fire (red), air (yellow), earth (brown), and water (blue). These correspond with the four paintings: Icarus (air), Dagon (water), G.D. Pentacle (earth), and dragon (fire).
Each of these points is represented in-game, as well. Fire is the Nether, the Overworld specifically refers to the original Spawn Point, and earth, air, and water all represent the three Strongholds (with the End Portal). We can reasonably assume this given previous hints on the subject.
The lines connecting the points show the flow of energy in the BTW world, with massive energy flowing from the End to the Nether, and energy leeching from the Nether to the Overworld (this also represents the portal connection between the Nether and the Overworld). The black line is the End Portal connection between the Overworld and the End, and the white lines the interconnectedness of the four elements.
The interesting lines are the purple ones between the Overworld and the three Strongholds. Given that The Device ™ is hinted to be built at these points, and that SFS has been given some unique properties, I surmise that each Stronghold is associated with an element, and that The Device ™ that is built at each of these points will have to take advantage of one of the new characteristics of the SFS in order to make it work. Once all three are completed properly, the final pathway will open. This is the red line connecting the Overworld to "Home".
Is "Home" a new dimension? Is it represented by The Isle of the Dead? Will we be wearing Gimp Suits and playing with dog poop? I have no idea.
Moving on to the tarot. These individual cards are not associated with the elements, so I don't think they are hints related to that. However, I do think they are hints about the nature of Steve, and the nature of "Home".
The Magician is the great manipulator, the master of all the elements, the bridge between the heavens and the earth. Is this Steve? Is this Steve-as-Faust?
The Hanged man symbolizes sacrifice, surrendering, renunciation, and the acceptance of that sacrifice. Are we to abandon our old worlds to start anew in "Home"? Does it represent a different sacrifice? What must we-as-Steve abandon and come to terms with?
Death represents change, the end of a cycle, the ending of one and the beginning of another. Again, are we abandoning the Overworld? Beginning a new Age? Reincarnating as Yog-Sothoth?
And the Fool. This one is tricky, as its symbolism is a bit vague and malleable. It can represent innocent wisdom; it can represent the protagonist of a story. Who is the Fool? Is it Steve? Is it Steve reborn?
Does this whole sequence imply a greater rebirth cycle in the overall development of Steve-as-a-character?
So, just wondering since this was updated on the 27th does that mean it works with 1.3 prerelease yet? :3
Oh, and does anyone know any mods that work with the pre-release yet?
To answer both of your questions: Most mod threads here on the forums include which version of minecraft the mod currently works with right there in the title.
Hear me out... Gyrocopter...I know this may or may not be be far fetched from the setting BTW sets; however they do use mechanical power to drive rotors. There are other mods that have this, but none of them can get it right. It won't have any weapons, it won't be cheap to craft, it has wear & tear which requires repair via soulsteel repair tools, and it consumes a lot of nethercoal to power. It takes all the tiers or "ages" to craft one. Lots of fabric, 80 soulsteel for the rotor (20 per blade), sidings, & etc... The fuel could be a mix of sawdust/hellfire dust/hemp/nethercoal, which kind of make sense and at the same time i feel those items are abundant, some of which are a by-product of obtaining soulsteel.
Wow, words from the man himself. I'm honored, thank you.
