well, world multi-threading will be released in 1.8 (the feature is not in the snapshots though since it is not finished, yet)
so the performance will make a huge jump https://twitter.com/...427387990827010
That is referring to having multiple dimensions running concurrently, which will make the game more demanding as it will have to process stuff for more than one dimension at a time (see more details here). In other words, not multithreading like Optifine's multicore chunk loading and likely to worsen performance on computers with 2 or fewer cores (one core currently runs the server and the other the client; for me, multicore chunk loading worsens performance (I set it to Smooth), likely because I have only 2 CPU cores/2 threads at once). Memory demands will also increase, proportional the the number of loaded dimensions.
That said, this is probably more relevant for multiplayer (especially multiple worlds, not just dimensions), not singleplayer, as there is no need in SP to keep the Nether and End running while you are in the Overworld (I hope).

I was wondering about that myself.... I don't see the need for it in SP. I would be more interested if objects could continue to operate in all chunks, but I understand that's pretty much impossible (and off topic, sorry.)
It looks to me like HD fonts are cut off to the right side on the 1.6.4 version of the mod. Out of curiosity, has this been resolved in the latest version?
I really would like to use Optifine 1.7.2 with Industrialcraft exp 1.7.2 but because of some crash and incompatabilities I can't use optifine, also the workaround/unstable isn't a fix for me...
EDIT: i just saw that i can't render beyond 8 even in Vanilla! so i think, my post is not Optifine specific!
EDIT2: ok, now i saw that rendering beyond 8 was a vanilla bug which got solved with version 1.7.4
hi,i'm really sorry, but it seems that rendering chunks beyond distance 8 (!) (still) doesn't work for 1.7.2.In the description for 1.7.2_HD_U_D1 it says that bugfixes from 1.7.4 were merged in this version. But i tried with following 3 forge versions:Clean Minecraft Installations without anything else:Forge 1.7.2 - build 1032 (recommended), 1074 and last 1098.Optifine 1.7.2_HD_U_D1 (in multicore mode)I hope, i didn't make any mistake .. i use Optifine for more than 2 years i think, so i know about configs.Last update was in february, so i wonder that nobody else told so? Well i looked last 7 pages or so, and did a search, but ..?
Any news about the incompatibility with Forge in 1.7.2 versions (breaking the support for custom texture loaders)? At this date I know that its breakage is interfering with two major mods - IC2 (and all his addons, for consequence) and Railcraft.
(I'm not asking about unstable versions or release dates, just for news - if they exists)
Did you use the forge installation instructions or the non-forge ones? With forge, all you need to do is drop it in the /mods folder - i did that and it worked fine c:
I have the 1.6.4_HD_U_D1 version of Optifine installed, and I noticed it says something about 1.8 skin format support. I went and uploaded my new skin, and opened my Minecraft, again. I still appear with the pre-1.8 skin format. Am I doing something wrong, here?
1. Why does my Minecraft get stuck on "Downloading Terrain" when I load up a world?
2. Okay, this mod raised my FPS quite a bit. From about 20 something to about 60. But one thing, I keep getting lag spikes every now and then. Okay, okay, there are many people on this server. But yeah, every now and then, a little lag to load some chunk updates.
3. How do I make the grass have grass on all sides?
But other than that, great mod. Also improves waiting time to join servers. to you!
meh. i would rather have a non-buggy optifine than railcraft, and i don't use ic2
Is there anyway that you add the option to turn off the animation for enchanted items? Enchanted items drop my FPS by 30%.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

No. You may not.

I used the forge installation instructions.

I mean it does not recognize optifine as a mod. it isn't in the mods section nor are the options changed.
it says:
Minecraft 1.6.4
MCP v8.11
FML v6.4.49.965
7 mods loaded, 7 mods active
there is no mention of optifine.
I have:
[1.6.4]bspkrsCorev5.3
[1.6.4]TreeCapitator.Forge.1.6.4.r09.Universal
1.6.4 DamageIndicatorsv2.9.2.4
AM2_1.1.2
