When using "Chunk Loading: Multi-Core" make sure to Disable "Threaded Optimization" / "OpenGL Threading" in the graphics card control panel (example). For best results disable it globally, not only for java.exe or minecraft.exe.
I suffer from the flickering when using Multi-core chunk loading. I was able to solve the flickering by disabling threaded optimization in a Java.exe profile (Nvidia drivers). My question is what, other then the flickering, could I be exposing myself to by not disabling it globally?
If there's nothing else to worry about (besides flickering) I think it would be more convenient to disable it for java.exe than a full global disable. Thoughts?
I suggest to disable 'threaded optimization' on java.exe only. Otherwise you might experience a reduction in performance in other games if it is disabled globally
I can't find the 1.6.1 optifine, spent like a half hour looking for it on the web. All 1.6.2 or 1.5.2(and down). Some say download for 1.6.1/1.6.2, but only works on 1.6.2. Where to find it?

He didn't release a 1.6.1 optifine, since the update took so long. He just decided to go straight ahead to 1.6.2. Bit foolish, but whatever.
Thanks for the new install instructions I followed them perfectly, but it seems to have only worsened my problem. Now MC automatically closes about half a second after it gets to the main menu. Anyone have advice?
EDIT: I used the Magic Launcher instructions, installing Forge and OptiFine, btw.
EDIT AGAIN: Wow, I feel stupid about all this, it seems that the source of all my problems was using the incompatible Damage Indicators v2.8.4.0, which is SUPPOSED to be compatible with MC 1.6.2... hmmm....
EDIT ONCE MORE: Updated Forge to Version 784, now works with Damage Indicators Mod, I'll stop now
No, youre the fool. Either program it yourself or UPGRADE
Some players can't update. Don't make it seem like everyone is on board with every update. Think about different scenarios. For example, I need optifine 1.6.1 still. The server that I play on hasn't updated to 1.6.2 yet.

Wokred with magic launcher, though im not a fan of either magic launcher or the new 1.6 launcher.
BUT, It seams the mipmap smoothing does not work.. Its a shame, I'm real big fan of that feature.

Is that his fault?

Read the OP. mipmaps are not done yet. That's why this is a pre-release.
Wow, if Mojang want to make Optifine useless, they have a LOONG way to go in terms of FPS increase, cause my old laptop gets around 10 FPS when loading chunks, which only goes up to 25 playing normally.
Exactly! Minecraft stutters constantly unless I have optifine installed. I've been using it since the Beta 1.2 days and Mojang still hasn't come anywhere close to matching it's abilities.
Can someone help when i hit play it did not launch and i saw this message at the bottom of the development console tab: "Gave up trying to download https://s3.amazonaws....2_OptiFine.jar for job 'Version & Libraries'
Job 'Version & Libraries' finished with 1 failure(s)!" HELP
Well, trying to download something that doesn't even exist is the error..
You have to create the jar, the launcher is trying to download it
Did you make sure to put Biomes O' Plenty in the mods folder? Also make sure it's checked in the magiclauncher under the setup window.
