i downloaded the hd_u_a7 and the water says to get the patcher. im using defined 32x32 texture pack can someone tell me how to fix this? and also my zombies/ zombie pigmen are weird too thnx
Optifine and some of the more recent HD texture packs that demand you use MCPatcher [Misa, Soartex Fanver, John Smith, etc] all produce weird lighting/shading problem. Weird shadow outline around light sources, even during daytime and in full view of the sun. Patches of darkness in fully lit rooms. A flickering light level. And I can see everything at night [no darkness]. Disabled 'Threaded Optimization' and enabled 'Vertical Sync' do not solve this problem. Optifine installed via Magic Launcher [no other mods].
Is there a solution to this problem? Do you require more info on my end to properly diagnose? Obviously, problem disappears when using default texture pack but there's a reason I don't use the default textures. And I use Optifine for the performance increases which MCPatcher doesn't provide. If there's no solution, can anyone recommend a working HD texture pack?
Smooth World is an extension of Smooth Input.
Smooth Input was used to avoid stuck keys and sound stuttering on single-core CPUs.
Smooth World adds control over the integrated server that was added in 1.3. It is more complex and has bigger effect on the FPS stability.
Can you add that feature again (or maybe its a bug) im getting stucks keys all the time now and it is very annoying and it always seems to happen when im right near lava. i have to press the key that got stuck (wasd) or press esc to stop it. I updated lwjl, java and come to find out its optifine. This problem doesnt happen with 1.2.5 version
I think that there is a bug with the support for custom colors... they work fine in all biomes except the swamp. The sandcolor stays default with every texturepack and the breaking particles of leaves are purple. Maybe you could look into this, sp614x?
Do not be surprised - my English is Google translate. I never play Minecraft without these mods:
ExtraBiomesXl, Industrial Craft, Build Craft, LCTrees++, Metallurgy, Railcraft, Smart Moving, Forestry, Jammy Furniture Mod, Kaevator Super Slopes, Xtra Blocks, ReiMinimap, CraftGuide.
This mod does not work for me. I install it successfully, I run minecraft everything works fine and my fps is silk-smooth... for about 30 seconds. Past that time my fps start decreasing slowly but steadily until it becomes as choppy and unplayable as it was before I installed OptiFine. This process takes about 5 to 20 minutes on average. Decreasing several performance-affecting features gives me a 10 second respite, but then the fps goes down again. Can someone help?
Is there a trick to getting render distance out as far as was possible with MCv1.2.5?
With MCv1.2.5 I set Optifine to Far+32. (Standard "Far" ain't bad either.) Ran smooth as silk with all sorts of fancy settings enabled. With MCv1.3.2 (which I didn't much mess with) and now MCv1.4.2 what I see rendered when set at "Far" is not nearly so far distant as it was before. Setting to "Far+32" refreshes the world but from what I can tell doesn't extend my world view distance beyond what it was at before. I can return to MC1.2.5 (with appropriate Optifine version) and again see much more of Minecraftia.
I've compared Optifine settings between MCv1.2.5 and MCv1.4.2. No glaring differences jump out at me.
I suppose I should mention that I also run Magic Launcher with all versions of Minecraft. Also, with MCv1.2.5 I used the "smooth" edition of Optifine. That said, with MCv1.42 I have Optifine set to "smooth" rather than "multi-core" in Video Options.
Is this a known issue? Are there less obvious settings (either in Optifine or elsewhere) I need to look in to?
Great program, btw. I bought Minecraft at commercial version 1.1 and installed Optifine before even launching the game for the first time. Never been without it.
Does this use modloader?
If it doesn't it should on the next update.

it doesn't use ANYTHING.So I hav everified that the problem for me is optifine by installing and uninstalling different mods and removing optifine fixed it. When I use optifine a6/a7 my lighting is broken, every block is brightly lit and items which cast light on them still have the regular brightness they would generate, i.e. my torches are casting circles of darkness because by default every block has maximum light. ALso, my light is flickering constantly between white and yellow. this did not happen to me on 1.3.2 with the old optifine, any suggestions or just abstain from optifine till a fix comes out?
Once again sir, you have succeeded in improvingperformance and giving those with an older machine a better minecraft experience, major props and keep up the excellent work! I wouldn't mind using 3 adfly links just to get this & support you more!!!!
This mod is really helpful and makes minecraft run soooo much smoother. If you want to see some of the options you can change with it, you can watch my video on optifine here.
I'm having an issue where the game won't save when I "save and quit". Lowering the save interval helps some-what with the problem since it's saving every 2 seconds on it's own anyway, but it's still fairly annoying.
edit: did some testing, removed jar for a fresh copy and the game went back to saving properly, installed too many items, still saved just fine (running to different spots and quitting then logging back in around 10 times in both cases). installed the newest version of optifine and it went back to not saving, even when i have it set to 2s. if it helps I am using an amd 64 athlon x2 dual core processor (setting it to 1 core to solve some gfx issues) and OS is windows xp media.
Yeah, Optifine is really helpful in reducing lag. It does cause a few chunk loading errors and lightning glitches here and there, but it's still a really amazing Mod!
I'm getting a severe lighting glitch in the newest version after updating to 1.4.2 from 1.3.2. This lighting glitch is not present with the default tileset, but when I load Misa's 64x64 texturepack, it seems like the lighting from the torches is overriding the sky lighting (causing things to actually get darker outside where there are torches, and there are lots of other weird things with shadows going on. Some screenshots showing the differences between the regular texturepack and Misa's (and yes, I downloaded the newest one for 1.4.2).

Hello, this is a huge problem I've been getting everytime.
The flickering problem. Now, whenever I install the Multi-core pack it always do that. The flickering. You said to disable threaded optimization but I don't have Nvidia.
Here's my specs:
Packard Bell
Model: EasyNote MH36
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00 GHz
Ram: 3 gb
32 bit
Please help me? I really need this mod, but if it's flickering every second then I can't live with it.

You can try to set Chunk Loading to Smooth.

I'm pretty sure the texturepack itself couldn't be the cause of this, and Optifine is the only mod loaded for those screenshots.
