I have found a bug for 'OptiFine 1.9.0 HD U A1 pre'. When you try to look at entities with the Spectral effect (The white outlining) The whole window goes black (can't even see the HUD) until you look away
Currently the option "Fast Render" is not compatible with the spectral effect.
I tested OptiFine HD U A1 pre for 1.9, and I was amazed how good it performed! Most everything seemed to work just fine! Performance was great just like 1.8.9 version, and all settings seemed to be working! The only issues I noticed was that some Entities like the new boats on the water, paintings mounted on the walls, skeletons, zombies, squids and wolves flicker somewhat when looking at them from certain angles and if I was moving or not. They seem to not flicker when I was very close to them. I tested on the Default resource pack and on another 16x pack. I did not test any Shader packs/Shader options. Also, Attack Indicator is there twice. One in main video options, and the other in Details. Also, I have one question. They removed Alternate Blocks in 1.9. Is it possible that this can be added back in with OptiFine 1.9.X? If not, that's ok. I was just wondering. Anyways, I am rambling now, thanks for all your hard work and keep it up! If I could, I would donate like 15 dollars or so to you but I am broke and not allowed. I will let you know if I find anymore issues.
The latest preview version seems to have more performance boost, but it was not enough compared to the 1.8.9 H5 version, especially the particles where its still lagged me like hell when i fight with the enderdragon. That particle lag was not severe in 15w32c where particle optimization was newly introduced.

Alright, I played OptiFine 1.9.0 HD U A1 for about 30 minutes (gotta go to work) on vanilla 1.9 with no shaders on smp...
- FPS boost (awesome)
- All mob models sometimes flicker (disappear and reappear)
- Sometimes a mob will spawn invisible.
All I can say is 'So far, so good!' I'll test more later after work, my system is a Win10 laptop with nVidia 540m and 6 gigs of RAM, and Minecraft is running on Java x64 1.8.0_25. To all the doubters: Getting something to appear on the screen is the easy part. Debugging and optimizing code is the hard and tedious part. sp614x will release a finished build when everything works, so please be patient because it'll be worth the wait. To sp614x, keep up the good work, you rock!
Does anyone know why this doesn't work with MultiMC?
I add it as a jar mod just like the previous preview which worked just fine like that but this one doesn't work. Minecraft says Minecraft1.9/custom but Optfine options don't appear or anything.
Install OptiFine by double-clicking the JAR.
Then take the extracted JAR from "<minecrat folder>/libraries/optifine/OptiFine/1.9_HD_U_A1_pre" and use it with MultiMC.
This should work.
Ah, noticed something weird while studying the 'flickering mobs' error... Still playing in vanilla 1.9, and still singleplayer. I have a house with a bunch of item frames and paintings in it. Here's the weirdness: I pressed 'F3' to bring up the game stats. Then, if I put an item frame and two paintings onscreen, the paintings will disappear and I see E:1 (entity count is '1' even though there's three entities there; two invisible paintings and one item frame). If I move a little bit, the paintings flicker quickly while the item frame stays rendered stable, and the E: number flicks between 3 and 1... The entity count goes to 3 if the two pictures and item frame are rendered onscreen, and goes to 1 if only the item frame is visible. Could that have something to do with the 'server' side of Minecraft tracking the paintings but the 'client' side of Minecraft losing track of them, rather than being a rendering problem? Maybe the paintings aren't being rendered because the 'client' doesn't know they exist... I dunno, just a suggestion since I don't know anything about what you're having to do to make Optifine work so awesomely, but maybe it'll be an 'outside of the box' idea that helps you solve the flickery entities issue. I'm not sure if this bug was fixed or not (anybody who could confirm the status of this if they experienced it in A0 please tell me), but I was thinking something about one of the bigger changes of 1.9.
@sp614x, I'm not totally sure if you did tamper with this or not (as I haven't seen it in changelogs nor real mentions of it in the thread exc. specifics vs. general), but will you try and modify the new particle/entity mechanic for less strain, mainly for the intention of very extensive or custom servers/maps? This isn't a per say demand or request, but more of a question.

Where is the optifine menu in 1.8_U_H5?
sorry guys but i have a problem here
i'm playing in 1.8.9 with forge 11.15.1.1744 (which i'm told "compatible with Forge #1744" in the main page)
so i download OptiFine 1.8.9 HD U H5
put it into the mod folder and start the game
the game load OptiFine but i can't find any setting inside the video setting
i dunno what is going on, i've try different forge version still didn't work
optifine isn't loaded, as you can see in your mod list

In A1 the mobs seem to be flickering when an item frame is rendered.
I have a problem with texture mapping in optifinne 1.9_ pre_A1 but all normal Vanilla

If that's the teleport / portal crash bug, it's been fixed for the portals at least. I'm guessing it should be fixed for the other situations as well.
optfine 1.8.9 h5 does not have the features like performance configs,quality and such.It was planned to be like this??
