Yeah, a lot of people don't seem to notice though. I have set ctr as my sprint key (which is vanilla default), and set optifine zoom to be the F key. The F key is relatively easy to reach, but the control key is much easier. Which is my order of priority.
well i actually have zoom in lcontrol, sprint in E and inventory on I
When I use Optifine (with 1.7.2 or 1.7.4), the game freezes at Mojang logo (Minecraft is modded only with Optifine).
The game works with some others mods like TMI, ZoomMod [this is in conflict with Optifine] and World Downloader.
CGU : Intel HD Graphics 4000 (included in i5 4670k). (It works on my old CGU)
(To install Optifine I put all content of jar except META-INF that is deleted in both jar files.)
If you install OptiFine in the JAR file, make sure to start with a clean JAR, remove META-INF and do not combine with Forge.
If you want to use it with Forge do not forget to add the necessary startup parameters (check install instructions).
If all fails, post the error log in a spoiler.

I get why people put I to the inventory, like because it starts with the same letter...but it's not really convenient. To open the inventory with the I key, I would either have to let go of the arrow keys with my left hand, or completely let go of the mouse with the right hand. In many situations, this could be dangerous.
I usually carry around a lot of items and need to switch them to the hotbar in under 1 or 2 seconds. Having E for the inventory let's me access it without moving my hand, and then I can click the numbers at the top to switch items in. This is really not possible with the I key. But hey, to each their own.

Don't know what to build? Here is a "What should I build?" generator!
Here's a weird one: in certain cases, interaction with minecarts becomes limited.
Setup the test case in vanilla. Create a new world, creative. Build a portal right next to spawn, go through it, wait 5-10 secs or so and return to the overworld. Place a couple pieces of rail and a minecart. Don't get in yet, just save and quit.
Load the world again in vanilla (you don't need to quit Minecraft itself, just the world). Get in the minecart, dismount, go to the nether and return, get back in the minecart. All is good.
Reload from the saved setup, this time running OptiFine. Get in minecart, dismount, nether and back... and this time you will not be able to get into the minecart. Curiously, you can push it around, though you can't hit it with anything (get the block beneath it instead). If you now save and reload, you will be able to interact with the minecart normally, but until then it's broken.
It will also fail in the reverse direction (minecart in nether), though I haven't figured out the precise minimal test case to demonstrate this, and the one I've described above appears to be 100% repeatable.
In my "real" world, most of my minecart stuff is in the nether, and that's where I see the problem. I tried this with 9 different portal pairs, 7 of which work normally. Of the two that fail, one is definitely within the spawn chunks, while the other appears to be about a chunk and a half beyond them (spawn -1, portal 7), but at least it's close.
I should note that I experienced this problem briefly during the 1.6 cycle. At the time I assumed it was a Mojang bug, and think I may have seen a bug report. The problem went away with the next update or two, and I did not try to isolate it as carefully as this time. However, it occurs to me now that I was also getting a new version of OptiFine with each update (wasn't playing snapshots then), and picturing the minecart I kept having trouble with, it just happened to be next to the nether portal that linked to a spawn chunk above. So this may be a problem that has come and gone before, in case that helps.
I'm using Preview C5 for 1.7.4 (only one I've tried) and nothing else (no Forge, etc.).
Other than that, I'm more delighted than I can say to finally be running Opti again. I started a new (amplified) world way back in snapshot 39a, and it's been tough but fairly playable as long as I kept render distance to 9 chunks or fewer (except for visits to my mob farm when it needed to be set at 11 or greater). To be fair, Mojang seemed to have improved performance dramatically from 1.6 to 1.7, but the difference with Opti is just night and day. Now with render distance (edit: said 12, it's actually 16), I often can travel hundreds of blocks through the nether without a single lag, and I never have to worry about running off the end of the track into the lava in front of me...

actually i play with I key because before that was the default inventory key (i think in beta 1.3 notch changed the key to E) so i find it easy
I hope this is the right place to post this:I am experiencing a minor graphical glitch with Optifine, specifically relating to the underside of the surface of the water. It doesn't render. This means that you can't tell how close to the surface you are when you are under water, and may drown if you are further than you thought. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

What happened to the view distance? In the older versions, I could see really far off in the distance. But now I can only see half of what I could with the old versions, even with render distance set to max.

Look a page or two back before posting a bug... That's a bug with 1.7.2, not OptiFine.
In C7, i have verified that both glitches i pointed out with the glass panes are still present, despite the notation that connected glass panes have been fixed

you dont ignore him but ignore my troubles with the mod??
i had to do all that so u can see but really sp614x.. really??
Fixing the fullscreen resolution is in the TODO list, but it is complex, so it may take a while.
It is stable if you just run the mod by itself. unlike most people I don't use forge or other mods.

It feels like it's supposed to. Thanks.
edit: Fixed in C7.
My Favorite Texture Pack is OVO's Rustic Pack:
This is a problem with the Linux graphics drivers.
A fix is planned, but I don't know when it will be added, because the solution is a bit complex.
