Building was giving me too much trouble on the optimization.. so I'm working on territories right now.
Basically, a territory is given to your follower when you tell them to wait. They'll then wander around in this territory while waiting for a new order.
Territories will be expanded upon to be sort of like "home bases" for NPCs, where they carry out tasks, build, etc.
Here you can see citricsquid wandering around in his territory. The green squares are the path he's currently on. The light pink/purple square in the middle is the center of his territory, and the big square is the perimeter of his territory. These only show up in debug mode, so don't worry about them being there in the game. It's just to help me out :biggrin.gif:
I'm flying, which is why I'm so big. :biggrin.gif:
I also found out that I need to implement threading on the build methods, because having 5 people build at once is taxing. :biggrin.gif:
Hey I was playing the mod and spawning people and I realised that the leader rod replaces the gold boots... I really don't care for gold boots, but I thought you may want to know.
Ideas: (I didn't look at what others said, sorry for any repeats)
-Ability to rename each of your followers.
-Telling them to place torches in dark areas so mobs don't spawn.
-Bow wielding friends & baddies.
-Followers warn you if enemies are near.
-Specialists with skins to match thier profession. If they're a miner they dig faster, fighter they do more damage, and so on.
Command for "All stop" of sorts, where everyone instantly stops what theyre doing and perform some other thing you tell them to. Also with this is a 'group' mind thing, where you can buddy up your followers and work togetherat accomplishing a task. The player would then be able to use commands such as 'team Alpha mine' and all members of team Alpha would start to mine. This would be helpful in large communities so that you won't have to tell each person what to do and where to do it. They automatically stick to the group and perform thier tasks as needed.
-Just a few ideas. I like the last one the most and hope you at least think about it, although I realize this would be rather hard to do. Anyways, this seems awesome and I hope to see this developed further.

Let's just return to what this topic was created to discuss shall we?
Uummmm is it just me or does the game get stuck when i click on notch with the leader wand?
i click him and the commands work fine but the back button seems to be unclickable. I have to quit the game every time and then i lose my notches. Is there any way to fix this? If so then how?

Great progress I see :biggrin.gif:
Even if the building code is difficult, hopefully you can manage to make it better still, since from the comments, building seems a tad odd at the moment.
Keep up the good work! Cant wait for more progress updates
Cheers
Well yea.. building is hard to do without teleporting. And I don't want to include teleporting. :sad.gif: But thanks!

Rename: Yes.
Telling them to place torches: Definitely.
Bows: Yes.
Warnings/Alerts: Yes, definitely. The system is already in place, I just need to add the warnings.
Specialists/custom skins: Yes, and I've already got two texture artists lined up.
Batch commands: Definitely. That will be in the pause menu I suppose.
Teams: It's possible, but not a priority right now.
But you did give me a good idea of how to implement some more of the "passive" things that aren't really orders. I'll make another "attribute" for them- behaviors. So there will be a behaviors menu for passive things, like the current No Heal order, and future things like torch placing, weapon preference, chase distance, wander distance, etc. Thanks.

Sometimes you have to move your mouse to the right spot on the back button for it to register. I don't know why though..

GREAT mod but my staff only spawns notch. i put custom things in the randomskins folder 2 am i doing something wrong?
Well there's mods/Friends/skins/, in which you put randomskins.txt and add usernames to that file. It will choose randomly and download that user's skin from the server.

Nothing much to see here. Got some more things worked out with the menus, basically.
--Changed the build option to have a menu where you can specify which schematic you want to use. It will load all the schematics out of .minecraft/mods/Friends/schematics/ and list them. Just click on the one you want and the text "USE" will appear beside it. Close out of the build menu, issue the build order, and tell them where to build.
If you look, you'll see that I also added a Mining menu. It doesn't do anything yet, and mining doesn't work, but that's what I'm working on. Press F4 for some cool debugging stuff. It will highlight their path if they have one, and their current target block for building, if they have one. And their territory.
This is amazing!
I am curious whether it will it be possible for us to add our own building schematics? If so, will you have your own way of creating one or would we need MCEdit or something?
I'm wondering what I did wrong. I have a schematic and it shows in the "build..." gui, but when I tell my guy to build it and confirm it says, "[name] is done building!" immediately.
*EDIT -could someone also explain how to place a building or tell the guy where to build it?
**EDIT - my guys won't heal themselves when I give them bread/pork/cooked fish
I am using x0.25_2 with only the required mods and single player commands.
Lol I think you installed something wrong. I just force updated and reinstalled everything and none of that happens. I recommend doing the same.

Good luck! It looks great so far.
Yea, that's exactly what this update was for! Once you run the game, you'll see that a new folder has been created in your .minecraft folder, /mods/Friends/schematics/. Put all your schematics in there and the game should recognize them. Just be aware that it's not optimized right now, so having 2 or more people building big stuff at the same time gets laggy.
It is a cool mod but when i try spawning one of the friends with single player commands it doesnt work and it crashes my minecraft. Even when i right click ground for
Am I understanding the skin changing thing correctly?
You can only change a spawn's skin to look like the skin of a player you've played with online?
Why can't we just stick a bunch of skins in a folder and the mod picks one from the list at random?
Awesome Mod though!
Edit: Also, when I enter the world and go near my followers, they all automatically start following me. How do I keep this from happening?????
It's really annoying that I have to tell all 20 of them to go back to wandering my town XD
AND they won't eat. They have food on them, and the option to allow eating is on...is it not a finished feature?
! last thing, can you provide the option to make them run the same speed as you, instead of walking?
