Just tried it again and it went to black. Again. Not that big into java right now but may the error suggest that something went wrong while packing it? I'm going to try out some more packers. This JAR was packed with Betterzip.
You didn't delete META-INF. You only get to skip that step on macs if you're using the folder-as-a-jar approach.

Yeah I just figured that out by myself some seconds ago. I'm sorry. I should really go to bed, looks like it's too late to read straight :sad.gif: Now I feel like an idiot..
When running:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
(this produces the same results if minecraft.jar is a .jar file /without/ the META-INF or a folder called minecraft.jar /with/ the META-INF)
the login screen comes up but everything just goes black and hangs after logging in.

The class it's complaining about, tr, is not affected by this mod. It sounds like you may have messed up the jar while installing the mod somehow. Steps should be something like:
cp minecraft.jar minecraft-1.4_01.jar
mkdir minecraft_jar
cd minecraft_jar
jar xf ../minecraft.jar
rm -r META-INF/
cp $OPTIMINE_DIR/*.class .
jar cf ../minecraft.jar *

The class it's complaining about, tr, is not affected by this mod. And while the mod does apparently reference it (looking at the name map) in this case the problems are occurring along a path not involving the mod. It sounds like you may have messed up the jar while installing the mod somehow. Steps should be something like:
cp minecraft.jar minecraft-1.4_01.jar
mkdir minecraft_jar
cd minecraft_jar
jar xf ../minecraft.jar
rm -r META-INF/
cp $OPTIMINE_DIR/*.class .
jar cf ../minecraft.jar *
EDIT: I've found my solution. I made the same mistake as prominence_user below me; I was using minecraft 1.4_1 but only optimine 1.4.

I'm running Xubuntu and Minecraft 1.4_01
the login screen comes up but everything just goes black and hangs after logging in.
This happens to me as well, and I also did delete the META_INF folder.

The steps I followed were thus:
(in the .minecraft/bin directory)
cp minecraft.jar minecraft.jarBAK
open minecraft.jar with fileroller
right-click META_INF, delete
Edit>Add Files>select .class files
(with or without first removing the copies already present)
The following commands both produce the same result (pointing at the launcher, not the bin:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
java -jar minecraft.jar
Login ok, world creation ok, Simulating World for a Bit.... and the error result posted.
Edit: Also notable, one must initially run minecraft.jar to generate the configuration folder .minecraft and its bin folder.
Second edit: I have since followed the given directions to the letter, the result of which being that the gameworld was drawn, showed two frames in one minute, and crashed. The next time I ran it, it crashed immediately, as before.
Fantastic mod, really appreciate it and I really like the fact that you included the source files, but I would highly recommend you make that a separate download as a lot of the kiddies on here don't even know what source files are and its causing a lot of confusion.
i tested it when i had 1.4, and since now i've updated to 1.4.01, and a new updated optimine was released from 303, i guess i'll give it a try before anything else :smile.gif:

Where does 303 release these things?
In this very thread, a few posts earlier :smile.gif:
I don't see a difference at all. Without Optimine I was at 50 FPS on Short Render Distance and Fast Graphics.
With Optimine It's the same.
When I first started using Optimine on Beta 1.3_01 I got 80 FPS with Fast Graphics and Short Render Distance. Basically this hasn't helped me much but it's still a good Mod.

Here's a paste of the terminal output:

I'm guessing the answer is to just wait it out and an update to the mod may be released, but I figure asking if anyone has any ideas can't hurt.
Thanks for reading!

I don't see any difference myself either, now what?
I haven't tried multiplayer yet, which is where I have had the most problems.
There are still occasional spikes that just slow my FPS to one every few seconds.
Are there any other suggestions as to how I can speed this game up?

No.
"src" means source, or source files.
You only touch that if you want to browse through or change the code behind the software you're running.
Since you probably don't, you should only pay attention to the .class files.
Alright thanks.
