This modification makes 'shining' items (default: Torch, Glowstone, Glowdust, Lit Pumpkin, Redstone, Lava Bucket, powered Minecart) illuminate everything around them if
a) the player has them equipped
:biggrin.gif: they lie on the ground
c) another player has them equipped in Multiplayer
You may add any Item ID you wish as shiny item, via the settings file.
You may also configure whether an item still shines if in water, and how long it shines once you drop it.
Demonstrational Video (just the lights)
There is no limit to the number of lights you can create, note however they are fairly FPS-costly, and the mod will attempt to reduce lighting render updates frequency if you overdo it.
This is a continuation/wraparound of the great mod Handheld Torchlights made by cryect, and credit for the light calculation class and performance optimization (such as the 1.4 lag fix) is entirely his.
The mod works in Multiplayer, yet is clientside, it cannot lag servers. Note however 'dropped' light sources will not necessarily prevent Mobs from Spawning, and neither will your handheld light.
Instructions:
1) Locate your minecraft.jar file. On Windows, it's in %APPDATA%/.minecraft/bin
2) Create a backup of minecraft.jar
3) Open minecraft.jar in an archive editor (WinRar/7-Zip/etc) 4) Delete the META-INF folder.
5) Copy everything your find in the zip's "compiled..." folder into your JAR, replacing files and folders

6) Run Minecraft and test!
Problem fixes: 4) Delete the META-INF folder. 4) Delete the META-INF folder. 4) Delete the META-INF folder.
Troubleshooting
If you're having problems, download this (windows only) and run it to see the error. If you post a problem that's related to an error without an error report, it will be ignored.
Apply this BEFORE you use any patching program like mcpatcher.
If you use other mods, make sure they dont use the same .class files. If they do, you must stop using one or the other, or ask for a merged file. (See below)
Thank you for this great mod and for the update! But for some reason the new version causes normal placed glowing blocks to appear brighter then before.
...
Could you please deactivate that or at least add an option to deactivate that glowing?^^ It might be some nice idea but to tell the truth i like the normal appearance more. :smile.gif:
Oh my GODS I am so glad to see that you're busy at work updating this! I've always wanted to try this mod, it's just that I kept running into this error with modloader's bz.class, and when I tracked it down to this mod, it just broke my heart. I LOVE what you're doing for the game, and I wait with bated breath to see your next step!
Well i've done an update for 1.6.5, but MCP is bugged somehow. It works just fine when launched through MCP, but the reobfuscated files it outputs cause a crash in rendering...
pictures please?
The OP hasn't been updated since the board switch so the youtube video that's supposed to be there is broken, here it is:
Since Minecraft updated, the Dynamic Lights 1.5.01 mod files no longer compatible, hangs up on black screen. My system in Mac OsX.
Best little mod in Texas, can't wait for the update!
It would help in alot of caves
This mod does not care for placed Blocks, it works through the entity list (eg items, players) only. If i had to guess i'd say mcpatcher causes this
As for 1.6.5, since that should not break MCP i will update as soon Risugami has updated his modloader.
You mean the one for which people constantly whined it overwrote their EntityPlayer class? .... no
Progress:
So Modloader is updated, but Mojang managed to break MCP with what little changes they made. Oh well .. wait for an MCP update
The fun thing being the "known bugs" list indicates further small updates
Apart from the Render classes (Optimine, Optifog) this mod should be compatible with everything else.
MCP is updated to 1.6.5
i really really really really like this mod! running around in a cavern with a torch lighting the place up. :laugh.gif:
I'll try re-downloading a clean MCP
EDIT
Nope, definitely MCP error
When i record I can see in the dark, but video cannot. (x
