I could probably find out where the functions I changed got called at, look through that code to determine where the final color call for the sky/fog is at and modify it there, and create some way to change it when you go to the options menu, but that would take me a lot of time to do and I hate making interfaces because that is a lot of effort since the only thing I wanted was a black sky to start with.
As a side note, if you change clouds.png by drawing pictures on it and set your render to fast that will change your sky.
Very insightful. However, I know barely anything about coding, even generally speaking. Therefore, I'm confused as to how you're even messing around with all this code. How? LET ME SPECIFY: Did you open the app file, (whatever that is,) in Notepad, or a language program like C+ or Java? How are you changing the script? That's all I want to know.
By the way, thanks for your help. Every little bit of information I can gather brings me closer to making a colored sky in Minecraft. I hope you don't feel as if I'm nagging. I very much appreciate your replies.
A lot of the code was changed with this update and I am having a hard time getting things to recompile after I grab source files out of the original bins. You guys might need to wait until MCP is updated for this release as that makes things a lot easier.
Zurich, if you are interested in programming via tinkering with other people's work, start with an open source program and learn how to download its source files and compile them. I originally learned to code by looking at the source code for MUDs when I was a wee young lad back in the early 90s and following guides on how to compile them. Working on modding Minecraft as your first project will be pretty hard since the code is obfuscated (a process programmers use to make their code harder to read/reverse engineer by replacing function/class/variable names with obscure names such as replacing a function like getTimeOfDay with func_03289874, the original you can easily guess what is going on, the second not so easily).
I would like to help you out more but I do not work with Java normally and I'm sure the problems I am having right now could easily be fixed by someone who works on java all the time. MCP makes it pretty easy to do all the hard stuff but they are not up to date as of right now. It can be found at viewtopic.php?f=25&t=58464&p=928924 but is not up to date with the latest version.

If i remember correctly entityrenderer has this for sky, horizon, water, lava.
This mod is awesome, so one more question and something that has always bugged me about the game, can you make the clouds please not be translucent, I want the clouds to block my sun, like they should. I have tried to change the pngs but it seems to be a hardcoded alpha value
I see in the picture you have black clouds was thinking maybe you could figure this one out it would be a cool mod that I'm sure once people saw in action would want, I also believe it would fix the problem with the translucent glass block mods, not being able to see clouds through glass.
does it make the ground dark too because i like the idea of a dark sky but does it change lighting from sun and does it change the color of fog to black as well?
Nevermind, just downloaded and it looks awesome, thanks
Nice mods man. May I make a request (a small one?)... I read your wall of text on page one. It gave me an idea. Since the stars are drawn using in-game code... I don't suppose you could either:
a) Change the OpenGL drawlist to instead load an image, similar to how the clouds.png is loaded. I don't need you to provide an image, seeing as I already have one in mind :smile.gif: If you do this, the image should be a resolution similar to the clouds.png... but stretched a lot less. In fact, could you just make it so that it fits the image to the sky, and make it scroll across the sky, but also spin very slightly, and then wrap around once it reaches the edges? (btw, I'm not asking for ALL of this to be done, I just want a least a few parts of this incorporated if possible)
:cool.gif: Fiddle with the OpenGL drawlist to instead of drawing simple rectangles, could you make it draw a series of rectangles about 1/2 to 1/4 of the normal size stars and then arrange them in a similar manner to this (or vary it a bit, if you don't mind):
[] [] [] [] [] []
[] [] [] []
[] [] [] []

[] [] [] [] [] []
With the being the rectangles. The total "star" should be a little bit bigger (no more than 2x bigger) than the default stars.
I realize this would be time-consuming, but once you got the basic star shape sorted out, it wouldn't be hard to copy it several times in the code (I'm not entirely certain how OpenGL drawlists work, but I have a fair idea how it should work, so I know it would mostly be copying it a ton of times and then just changing the draw coordinates, if it functions anything like any other draw functions I've meddled with.
for you if you make either one of these mods, man! I only ask because you're the first modder that I've seen to actively mess with the skybox coding, so I figured you'd be the man to ask about this. I know it should be possible, but I haven't found a modder yet who's willing to attempt it.
Is it possible for the clouds to not change? I am using this with the rezcraft texture pack and I want to have green clouds. I hope you have time to look at this. Thank you either way.
I am not sure if this is a mod compatibility issue, but when I load this mod, Minecraft does not render blocks. everything is transparent. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
