I've been interested in trying to develop my own mob models for a while now, but ive yet to figure out how.
Are the mobs rendered in 3D with an algorithm?
i haven't seen any 3D models in the Minecraft.java stuff, so im guessing thats the way its done.
If you could show me anything on how you got to change it up id love to know and help out in any way i can.
Kudos'

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, an opinion cant be awful. Its an opinion. Its your opinion that his opinion is awful.

I would also like to know how to go about making the models, not so much the mobs themselves, but just the models, lol, as that part is what is getting me stuck...
Also, list of mobs i can think of, that would go with MC in anyway, shape or form:
Dragons (Had to say it, no matter what you reply with.) [Dragons drop Scale, drake drop hide, both can be used in armor, you have to proccess scales, and you can use them to make weapons and tools, 1.5X as good as Diamond, processed scales can also be made into blocks.)
Drakes (Smaller, less powerful dragons, drakes/spawn only during night time, although, drakes can survive in any dark area, dragons can survive no matter what, dragons spawn in cave, drakes spawn anywhere.)
Serpents ( Well, mainly a type of Sea Serpent, can crash boats, and can not survive in too cold of water (As in, near the tundra/taiga biomes)[Sea serpents drop fangs, with can be used to craft fang knuckles, the power of a diamond sword, with shorter range.]
Penguins (Again had to say it, friendly mob, drops fat [fat is used as fuel source, only slightly better than planks])
Anything along the lines of: Orcs, trolls, ogre's, goblins, hobgoblins, etc.
This is one i don't really think is a good idea, but i have to meantion them: Basilisk, Pheonix, and Cockatrice, mythos classics XD
Ideas previously mentioned, that i really support: Wolves, bears, and, the lions you have already done.
And one last thing, that i really have to put: BRING SLIMES BACK ! XD
After you are done with all that, relieve the stress with a TNT and diamond sandwich:
Whenever someone rises from the ashes that makes amazing mods, everyone makes requests for 50 new mobs, that are completely unnecessary...
WHAT WE NEED ARE THINGS NECESSARY (herpderpderpherpdidntseethatcommingstarfoxdidyou)
Liek a duplicate of the mob data of the slime, but only the middle size data, so we can have medium slimes on the land :biggrin.gif:

Unesacary? are lions 'necessary' ? No, they just expand gameplay, with it what all mods are for, none of them are necassary, unless, they fix known bugs, or make it more balanced, gameplay-wise, not content-wise.
What tutorial did you use, if you used one? I would love to make myself some new mobs
I did not use any tutorial, used the Minecraft Coder Pack 2.1 (did not realize that 2.2 was out) and navigated my way through the code. The code is de-obfuscated but for some reason the functions and classes for rendering the creatures were not clear, I had to do a lot of guessing.
I do not want people duplicating the effort of figuring everything out. I will share what I've learned but I'm still learning and want to finish a few creatures before I write a tutorial
I would LOVE if you PM'ed me some pointers of what to do for creating an object/creature/ ANYTHING. Im new to minecraft modding but ive been working with java for a little over a month now.. Id appreciate it so much if you did, maybe even post a public tutorial..
But anyway, the mod looks fantastic so far! Great job!

Ninja'd by the creator of the thread, guess I had it up for awhile and didn't refresh.
About the model, the only thing that looks off to me is the muzzle... might be too long, or might need to be shifted down a pixel.
it is actually centered, but because the renderer engine calculates the position of the muzzle based on the position of the head and it uses a float number, the snout does not always appear right in the middle.. :sad.gif: It seems too much work to change the code for a slight misalignment that shifts every now and then.
Flying animals may be easy - I've tried knocking a chicken off a cliff once (Lol) and it floated down slowly whilst it flapped its "Wings". Maybe it could be modified so that it doesn't descend slowly, but never ever does, so then we can have roast eagle :3
By the way, if you're going to make land animals... why not underwater animals like fish that can only be seen underwater so if your fishing, they don't like go through your hook.

I can't post any code here, but I will find a way to write a tutorial once I have a better hang of this.

Seconded. I think smaller mobs should be explored. The chicken just doesn't do it for me, and eggs! Don't get me started on eggs...
