"...Dan has not been returning any of my mails and hasn't been posting on his tumblr page for about half a month now, so i am assuming that his internet got cut again. I really do not know, we are on opposite sides of the world. We haven't spoken since the beginning of last month..."
This is now over!
I have been contacted by Dan, aka SaveTheGnomes13. There were some... *ahem*... Problems with his home. But, he is moving back in and has his internet back. He sent me a quick mail to notify me that the mapping will proceed shortly.
Here's some news and stuffiez.
Update Schedule
I'm now waiting for him to reply and we can set up a worktable and start working on Fallout again frequently. Here's the dealio. Minecraft 1.8 is already here, so there's no use in releasing the map's actual 1.7 update. Instead, we will release the map's 1.8 patch in two updates. We shall start with using the map's actual update instead of minecraft's update in the name. So it'll be Fallout: Rebuilding Humanity v1.4.10, which will be pretty much the same as the older update but with a revamped ending and some minor changes. 1.5.0 will be the actual groundbreaking "1.8" update. So 1.4.10 will (probably) use some of 1.8's features and/or command blocks, so it'll be best if you people play the map on 1.8 or later from now on.
RandoMobs
Secondly, i have to address the newest poll added. It refers to Randomobs. If you don't know, randomobs takes a bunch of mob textures, randomizes them and applies them to mobs. So in minecraft we can work with 5 villager skins for NPCs. Friendly NPCs, i mean. The ones you trade and talk with. There's farmers, blacksmiths, butchers, you guys know how villagers work. BUT. Already two of these skins are going to be used by unique NPCs. So that's 3 left. Imagine Fallout 3, but EACH AND EVERY single npc looks the SAME, with THREE variations. That would suck, wouldn't it? With randomobs we can have all of them look different and unique, and it'll allow for some really good cities crowded with people! So smash that poll for more mob textures!
Rambling
So i have been alone for a pretty long time now and that has allowed me to polish my redstone builds, get stable servers, etc. I have made tons of cool stuff, I don't really wanna spoil any of it, since it'll all be packed tight into the map, but one of them is... ROCKET LAUNCHERS. Just saying. Dan, when announcing the 1.8 update, missed like 80% of the stuff we're putting in. However, maybe it's for the best to... You know... Not... Spoil any special features? He ALSO skipped through the fact that we're putting in Co-Op and the best way to play it will be with 2-4 people. Alone is an option but... Not the best one.
This is all fine and dandy, but without an actual map, this redstone is completely worthless. I'm a redstone technician, not a builder. So i've been tossing around the idea of a closed beta or demo, however you'd wanna call it, where i'd pick, like, 20 something people and put them in teams of four and have them play a good section of the map, so i can get some feedback and people can get a sneak peak at what's coming. Nothing huge, just some exploration stuff and a few quests. After you're done, Dan and me will have an "in-game sit" with you and we'll talk through everything, and you'll give us honest opinions and suggestions on how to improve the map. Some outside feedback can't hurt. I still need to get approval from Dan, but if he says yes than you guys can expect a nice little stroll through our wasteland paradise. Anyone looking to help and move the project forward can step in on this, because really, i need a lot of feedback from playtesters that i won't get unless i do something along these lines, because the minecraft community is really good at keeping quiet. You will be playing on my 8gig server and it will be a jolly good time!
So that was just some stuff off the top of my head that you guys should know! If you have anything to say, anything at all, leave it in the comments. I do read all comments and if i have something to say, i'll reply to them, and soon, Dan will as well.
I, myself, had a really hard time trying to enter and work on the map itself. Dan didn't really think too much about it when i asked to help, so he offered me the option to playtest the map and that's it. Then i proved myself with a shitload of redstone creations and that's pretty much how Dan let me in.
I'm not sure just letting anyone join in and work on the map and have our custom server's ip is a wise idea. if we tried to take in anyone that has a bit of spare time we'd have a shitload of people that don't exactly know what to do and how to build the map. It'd be like Bethesda just hired unpaid interns to do level design for Fallout 3. It'd just end up being a crapzoid map with no rhyme or reason to anything. Do you get why i don't let anyone "build scenery and make everything detailed specially when we talk about fallout", Fiddle_Max?
Maybe, if we need some outside help with that, i'll send you and anyone offering a PM, but right now, if you're REALLY looking to help the map, the best you can do is wait for this playtest that i've got planned and maybe then you can get on in with that. If you're lucky, Dan will ask something else of you. He, and he alone. He's the one in charge.
So, Fiddle_Max, see you on the flip side, and maybe when we do the playtest?
If you go to the bottom of the first page you'll see, "Download Details". In it, it says that you cannot download it till they release the '1.8' update. Speaking of the 1.8 update, it appears they've been working on it since September (If I understood correctly) so hopefully we won't have to wait to much longer!
Holy crap stop it with the false ETA. First its 23 november. Then it's 25th. And now it's 1 december. Give us the right ETA or don't give it to us at all.
We had to delay it a lot. Don't worry though, it's coming soon. We thought it was gonna be the 23rd but some stuff went up and we couldn't finish it. DON'T WORRY, IT'S COMING SOON.
Here's some news and stuffiez.
Once we release the map, you are free to take anything. It's public domain. It's a minecraft map for christ's sake!

because youtubers all have it
You can expect the map's 1.7 update to come as early as next week! Keep an eye out.
Maybe this is an example of Valve Time?
