Not a N S E W map. But A whole scene or map or whatever you call it. I download maps sometimes for her. She wants to create her own. Is it difficult? She's pretty good with MC. Can install her own mods on Mac Platform and all the rest. I'm her dad, I don't have a clue.

It's pretty easy to make them unless you want to make it really in depth, if she has world or MC edit then it makes it a lot easier. If she can build well and do Redstone/command blocks then she can make a good one. Ask her to do it and play through it and if she likes it then add it to Minecraft forums

Putting the map online steps:
Take the finished maps folder or .jar or .zip or whatever out of the .minecraft folder, (I'm not sure how to get it out on Mac) then compress it into a .rar file. Make a MediaFire Account, link https://www.mediafire.com/ Make the account then put the .rar file into it by pressing the button 'U' go into 'files' and get that file, then press 'Begin Upload' it will start the upload and show the file when it's done, click on the file and copy and paste the like into Minecraft forums.
On Mac OS X, Minecraft world saves directory can be found at ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves.
Also, RAR is probably the wrong choice. It's Windows-specific, and can't be created or read by OSX users.
Perhaps use ZIP instead. On OSX this is a simple matter of right-clicking the folder in Finder and selecting "Compress <FOLDER NAME>" from the context menu.
That means you happen to have a software package installed which enables RAR compatibility. Not only is such software not available for Mac users, but it's unlikely to be available for another Linux user unless they know how to find and install it.
And even if they did, why would you make them? ZIP format is a massively compatible, historic standard, and it does a stellar job. There's no sense to using RAR, even to target Windows, unless you actually want to exclude people.
It's more of Microsoft's attempts to dominate by brand lock-in. They fool people into thinking: 1) that because Windows is majority, Windows proprietary things are also majority; and 2) that a majority proprietary thing is preferable over a minority but compatible thing.
Both ideas are false. You're really better off with ZIP than RAR.

I scored 64% on the Minecraft Trivia Quiz. How much do you know about Minecraft?
Making a map is doing this:
Creating a new world.
Building stuff.
That's it! of course putting the map online isn't as simple, but making a map is just doing what you would generally do in minecraft.
