I'm dagreenkat and I recently began work on my first map, an adventure map called Detective Minecraft #1: The Peculiar Past of Penelope Waters.
I'm quite the command block novice, but willing to learn whatever I need to so I can make my map a reality! I've planned to use /tellraw for branched dialog, but I'm not quite sure how.
What I want is something like this:
[Walter]: Oh, hey there! You must be Detective @p
((then as in-text options))
Do you know Penelope?
How long have you been living here?
What happened to your mother?
See you later!
and after you asked one of them and they replied, it would come up like
How long have you been living here?
What happened to your mother?
See you later!
and if possible a question or two related to the dialogue they just told you.
I thought this would be possible but I have little idea where to begin- so I'd appreciate some guidance or otherwise knowledge I simply can't do this.

This website is very useful for creating complex tellraw commands. It was created by ezfe, so all credit goes to him, and the source code (if you care) is available here.
As for branching dialogue, you should have the clickEvent for certain texts activate other command blocks containing their respective branch of tellraw messages.
