You gotta give players who have a potion effect of water breathing III a scoreboard value for a dummy objective.
That part I understood. What I'm having trouble is detecting and giving players with said effect a different effect. This is my current nonfunctioning command:

The execute command tests all of the players, and since the scoreboard command itself is set to target all players, it affects all players if it manages to find one player who fits the criteria. If you change that, I think it should work as you want it to.
(Like I said, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, since I do not have the absolute knowledge on how specific commands work)

I'm not sure about that, but that isn't my main problem currently. My problem is that the command doesn't actually detect and activate if the player drank the potion (yes, it's connected to a redstone clock). The previous output says "The entity UUID provided is in an invalid format". I think it's probably a problem with my syntax, but I'm not sure :/
This is the spawn for One, a highly experimental map that I've been itching to make for over a year. I'll have a little less time than normal to work on the map, as I have relatives visiting over the weekend, so the actual size of the map will be significantly smaller than what I've previously made; nonetheless, I think it could still turn out pretty well if I have enough time to focus on gameplay/balance.

## Add scoreboard objective ##
/scoreboard objectives add OtherObjective dummy
## On a 20Hz clock in order of execution (-x -> +x, -y -> +y, -z -> +z) ##
/execute @a[score_OtherObjective_min=1] ~ ~ ~ fill (coords of fill strip x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2) minecraft redstone_block 0 replace minecraft:stone 0
## On fill strip in order of execution (-x -> +x, -y -> +y, -z -> +z) ##
/scoreboard players set @a OtherObjective 0 ## you may want to remove the score later on the fill strip depending on what you want to do##
add whatever events need to execute
/fill (coords of fill strip x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2) minecraft:stone 0 replace minecraft:redstone_block 0
## the stone block on the fill strip can be any block, i just used stone for example ##
Thanks a lot halfstack, but Krose already helped me solve the problem. Should've said it here I guess, ah well, sorry Hopefully this helps me at a later date.

NP, I used a similar system to some extent recently so it was fresh in my mind.
Considering that we're in the middle of a wave, it seems awfully inactive around here. Hope everyone's still making progress on their own maps.
Things are still going well for me. I'm slightly behind where I wanted to be by this point, but I still have lots of time and I'm really happy with the areas I've already made. I think this is where I'm going to stop for tonight - I'll start right back up with my third area tomorrow morning!
Oh god, I'm working veeeery very slow at this point, I only have made the Monument/Spawn island and the first area, damn I'm lost.
I figured out a way of gaining some time, I'm not placing loot chests in this map. That means the map will be full survival, there are ores scattered in the islands.
Here are some screenies of my progress:
PS: I'm not as comfortable with this as I could be with a cave map, but there is no going back.
Well, I'm just passing by to say that my map is already finished so I'm going to sleep (it's 3:30am here). When I wake up I'll test the map and then make some changes to make it public here. Wish me luck for tomorrow
That part I understood. What I'm having trouble is detecting and giving players with said effect a different effect. This is my current nonfunctioning command:
/execute @a{ActiveEffects:[{Id:water_breathing, Amplifier:2}]} ~ ~ ~ scoreboard players set @a OtherObjective 1
Also I just realized that this has the problem that it'll give the effect to all players, so yeah :/ help me please.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you just have to set the "@a" by "scoreboard players set" to "@p" so it becomes:
/execute @a{ActiveEffects:[{Id:water_breathing, Amplifier:2}]} ~ ~ ~ scoreboard players set @p OtherObjective 1
The execute command tests all of the players, and since the scoreboard command itself is set to target all players, it affects all players if it manages to find one player who fits the criteria. If you change that, I think it should work as you want it to.

Progress:
Spawn
The Shattered Glyphs (White)
The Suspended Quarry (Gray)
The Towers of Rust (L. Gray)
The Tolling of the Bells (Black)
Monument
I'm really confused right now. Is there something this is referencing to?
Hello CTM Community. <3
Look at that cat.
Now look at Fangride's profile picture.

I have not even started on a jam map yet. I wasn't going to make one, but now I feel in the mood. Mine might be late, but oh well.
More building done and I have two more areas finished.
I'll do my 3rd tomorrow and then get going on the spawners and loot, leaving any redstone stuff for Monday.
So let me introduce you to The Haruka Tree and Crown Peaks!
Alright, I'm starting back up my stream for my mapping for the jam. Moving onto area two today.
Special thanks to Axl Rosie for the sig.
The Peaks look good but the Haruka Tree looks phallic XD

For easy reference, I appear.
