Are you tired of searching far and wide to find awesome Minecraft maps to play? Are you fed up with downloading map after map, only to be disappointed by the quality of the maps?
Me too. That is exactly why I have started this thread, so that we can, as a community, gather and review all of the really good maps out there. Hopefully this could one day become a platform
for map makers to show-case their work.
Below you will find a decent selection of maps, with a comprehensive description explaining who made the map, where to download it, some screenshots and possibly some videos too.
If you have a map that you would like people to see, send me a message and I will include it in the opening post.
Let's get this party started shall we?
The first map I am going to show you is one created by myself and the former staff of a server that we are no longer working on (ElyriaCraft):
We created this map after trying to recreate a stage from the popular freerunning game known as Mirrors Edge. If you would like to see what this game is all about, check out this trailer:
Mirrors Edge Trailer:
I started a dedicated thread for this map a while ago if you would like to take a look, but please note that I intend on giving my full attention to this thread only.
We were overwhelmed with the amount of detail required and could not easily make the map fully functional in terms of the way the Minecraft mechanics works. Our idea evolved into what
you see below:
If you want to see a map review, check out this video by RideDatPigStudios:
Please remember to subscribe to his channel if you like what you see.
A big thank you to Chibardamus for recording the below first external record. This used to be the best time anyone has completed the map in:
We have a new record, done by The Sketch. This is a really fast time wow. Check this out:
Feel free to download / edit / rebuild / completely change this map. Once you download it, it belongs to you so you can do whatever you want with it. You can be kind and give me credit but it
doesn't matter if you don't, my only interest it to bring a bit of fun to all of your lives.
What is Capture The Flag (CTF)? I'm glad you asked. CTF is a gamemode unofficially added to Minecraft to simulate the popular game where your goal is to make it to the enemy base to steal
their flag. Depending on the way you set the plugin up, you can give players kits including weapons and bows, or you can opt to give your players snowballs which allows you to instantly kill
other players if you can hit them with the snowball. If you have the flag, you lose the ability to fight. Your only goal then is to return the enemy flag to your base. If someone kills you while you
have the flag, the flag is dropped and you will have to try all over to get the flag.
We built this map in a couple of evenings. We decided to use a general Greek theme, hence all of the quartz. We have play tested this map and the game is really smooth and engaging.
There are hidden passages and secret tunnels all over the map, meaning that if you have the flag you have many ways to get back to your base. Please note that you will need a CTF plugin to
automate the points/lifepool/scoreboard/hub etc. We used the "War" plugin when testing the map.
War: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/war/ (I did not create this plugin and I am not affiliated with it in any way. Use it at your own risk. If it messes your server up, however unlikely that is,
please take it up with the plugin author)
The below video is a small preview of the map:
If you would like to download the map, I have uploaded a McEdit schematic. You can load the schematic ingame by copying the schematic file to your /plugins folder in your server directory,
then use a program like WorldEdit to load the map.
If you would like to add WorldEdit to your plugin list, follow this link (Assuming you are running a bukkit server):
Initially I was going to paste three versions of this map, one for the past, one for the present, and one for the future. Players would then "warp" through time using command blocks. The past
version would pristine and new, the present version would be semi-rundown and the future version would be quite destroyed. I made a lot of progress but finally gave up as it was way too
time consuming. I narrowed it down to just this one map. The actual parkour course is done, but the decorations of the Ruins is at about 95%. Feel free to download and edit this, if you do
decide to complete the building then please let me know, I would love to see this in a complete state.
For a preview of the map, watch this video(Warning, if you watch this you will then know exactly how to complete the course):
This was going to be the third and final map on our server that we are no longer opening. This map had a lot of redstone, so it took a lot of agility and good timing to get to the top. The map
was only at 70% though when we decided to stop working on the server. This map was well recieved by our testers. I may complete this map one day but for some reason I have lost the will
to work on this map. It's a pity.
Here is a small teaser of this map, I recorded this while building the map. Unfortunately I do not know where in the world I built the map so I am unable to save a schematic so that you can download it. If I do find this map, I will definitely upload it for you.
We added survival games (SG) to our server, and instead of downloading one of the already made maps, we made our own. The map is very fun to play, although I admit there are A LOT
better SG map makers out there. We never intended on releasing this map to the public, but due to the map being very fun to play, we thought we should share it.
I still need to record some video, and take some screenshots. Stay tuned for this. The download is availble though so If you do a preview/review let me know and I will put your footage here.
This is a fun Capture the Flag map that we made. It is a lot smaller than the Quartz CTF map but the game play is very intense. There is a parkour element, where if you get the flag you are
actually able to run most of the way back with the flag along the rooftops and treetops. As always, you are allowed to modify and edit this map as you please. Just let me know, purely because I would love to see what you do with it.
Here is a small preview of the map. The vid has no editing just a small title and a random song.
The Tree Of Death
Creators: Striif3
Map type: Parkour
Subtype: Explore/Adventure
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?u8j9e3h1q4j1ndc (Warning this is a large schematic, your server might crash. I recommend using McEdit or SafeEdit)
This is an adventure style parkour map. There are no quests or rewards because the map is at the moment not finished, but it is still very much fun to play. Of course I will update this once
the map is done.
The tree was built by a poster on mcshematics forum, I edited and added the nether brick and modified the whole thing into a parkour map.
I haven't yet uploaded a video of this map but here's a screenshot:
That's it for now. I hope you guys and girls enjoyed my maps. I would like to showcase other map makers work too so if you have something you would like me to add to this forum ,send me a
private message. Let me know who the creator is, give some links to some videos/reviews/screenshots and also a download link (Preferrably schematic).
I am very interested in collaborating with map makers, or helping out with building on various servers. If you are keen, let me know.
The Cubes Of Adventure 2 (sequel of The Cubes of Adventure) is an
Adventure-CTM-Survival
map where your goal is to find all the
dyes
that are hidden in some dungeons in the playing area.
In this map you´re gonna feel the classic minecraft survival experience combined to a brand new CTM mode with a story that makes you feel that you are playing an adventure map.
Do you have permission from the creators to post them as well?
I am the creators of all of the above maps so far
Once other map makers ask me to post their maps, I will always put their name and details with their maps so that people know who created them.
Just to spice things up, let's have a small competition that starts as of now. Whoever has posted the fastest time by the 26th of August 2013 for my Quartz City parkour map (map 1 on the above list), will get a free optifine cape from me. I will make the donation, you get the cape.
Some rules before you begin:
1. Your entry has to have a valid run, with video of the run so that we can all see that it's legit. Only one continuous video will be accepted, any splitting or splicing will leave your entry up to suspicion and automatically disqualify you.
2. If you disobey the map rules (ie Going over quartz half slabs) you will be disqualified.
3. The prize is an optifine cape, if you don''t use optifine you won't really benefit from winning. The prize is non exchangeable.
4. All previous entries count too.
5. Competition closes at 6pm, 26 August. My timezone is +2 gmt so I will close the comp personally then.
Mods as far as I can tell, this competition does not breach any of the forum rules. Of course a competition like this could get heated whereby people will try to discredit each other. In the event that this happens, I kindly ask for your assistance in keeping things calm.
Please remember to post your IGN with your video so that if you win, I can easily get your cape for you.
