Nice. Good concept & buildings are great. Walls look really plain though, spice them up. Even a percentage block would do them some good. Same with the floor.
Great start though!

I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
After a long break I decided to go back to mapmaking.
This area is still WIP, but some feedback on the progress would be reallt nice
I really like the houses in this area, but everything else is terribly ugly. The walls and ground just don't go together. The walls, as Navarog said, are extremely plain. The pattern on the ceiling is really weird and random. The random water pool too, maybe give it a source from the wall, like a waterfall.

Try not to take screenshots with night vision. It doesn't give us a true good look of an area. Moody brightness on fullscreen minecraft makes for the best screenshots imo.
I do like the house designs. The tendrils on the ceiling are nice, but they make the area feel too claustrophobic, maybe make the ceiling higher if you can? Raise the roof? Try to have more block variation in the walls as well as maybe some paths between the houses in some way. Otherwise it's a good start.
For future reference, eroding without checking the Old(Messy) box will always give you those perfect shapes in the walls. I HIGHLY recommend first going to town on a surface with the box checked, then maybe very slightly with smooth erosion if you so desire. The new smooth erosion is not good by itself imo.
When you take screenshots its harder to give feedback if the pictures are showing something the player will never see. So for instance, if the area is meant to be played with nightvision off, the strange brush marks on the ceiling might look better then they do now.
The houses look great though man!
Suggestions
- Walls need to be redone (Maybe even copying the houses and redoing the whole cavern shape could be an easier alternative to working with what you have now.)
- I'm not a fan of the red worm paint with the sharp black outline. Just looks a little strange. However if you refined the look a bit more it could be cool. Clay on clay is a bit weird maybe another block type? Still I'm just generally not a fan of that aesthetic.
Welcome back guy, and good luck. I see some good potential here.
Wow, there are so many oldies out there. I didn't even know about Minecraft until the big adventure update. A while later, I finally got interested enough to finally buy the game.
I played a 1.4 adventure map with command blocks and custom names and my first thought was "...you could do that??" (I didn't follow any minecraft news or snapshots at the time)
Looking for maps compatible with 1.8, as I am stingy on giving up just a couple features to play a map. I more prefer to drop down to like beta versions for those maps where it's just an entirely different game. When I play on 1.7.x I end up trying to sprint with ctrl and dying, things like that. So, can people name some 1.8 compatible ctm maps that are good? I've played: (some of these may not be 1.8, but I'm going to list my recent ones for the sake of naming everything since I don't know which are/aren't)
The painter
Savage Realms
Pantheon
Terra Restore
Minimalist
Chimarian Memories #3
Now that's what I call CTM
I think that's all I've played since I swapped to 1.8. So if anyone knows of any 1.8 maps that I didn't list that are good, I'd like to hear about them Thanks!
Edit: Also I'm looking for full maps, mini CTMs aren't my cup of tea. Thanks!

Started in 1.3 Beta, but I got my actual account in the 1.3 Full Release when they added LAN.
I started playing in the Age of Pistons (1.7.3 Beta), but I had been playing on a friends account for a while before.

Remember when redstone blocks were a radical new thing?

Sorry. Just an example of how downgrading just a version or two can have a gigantic impact on how you play.
